Thank you all so much for watching! If by chance, you're considering a new Tesla, this link will give you $2,000 off your purchase. It will also give me $1,000 and that would come in handy right about now :) ts.la/tom527717

Thanks for the awesome video. You really set my set my mind at ease, leaving tomorrow in 2024 M.Y. Michigan to fort pierce Florida was planning on no hotel stays just power napping in car. FSD is going to help alot with fatigue. Hope you enjoy your family time. Can't wait to see my 92 year old dad😊

Hey Ho! This writer is NEW to Tesla EVs and the Tesla navigation systems. This is very useful for his education on how FSD/Tesla/Charging details work. And sheer intuitive genius of and on the vanity mirror making the spy camera 'happy' in FSD. From other videos on Tesla, when the FSD or like fails, it most often means you have hit a reception dead zone. Thanks for taking the time to do this. And good luck with the search for another job!

Entertaining, I recently did a nonstop 1100 mile trip from Colorado Springs to the RGV. It cost about $97 to make the trip. The biggest problem encountered was night time driving in very dark conditions. It would bump out of FSD with a camera obscured message because there was nothing to see in the dark of night. Without FSD, a trip like this is out of the question for this 75 year our.

The external cameras, epsecially the pillar cameras, will not beable to see at night is driving to a barren area. Happens to me all the time going out to Maricopa City on 347. It gets really dark out there in the dessert.

I’ve done a similar drive. San Diego to Seattle and back, around 24hrs each way. This was in 2020 when it wasn’t as good, nonetheless it was lightyears better than when I had previously completed the same trip with a gas car. Even then I sat and supervised the car rather than focused on driving. I can’t wait to see the days where most people get to experience the much lessened fatigue of driving during a long roadtrip.
@narmen1984
@narmen1984 Ай бұрын
I mean there is still a really big difference between charging stops and gas stops. Like hours more worth of time spent charging. It does have to get down to much lower charging times to be feasible for the majority of drivers to move full EV. I'm a city kid I know it would work for me but a lot of ppl can't see it.

Great video! Thanks for posting especially the summary at the end. I assume you were using FSD version 12.5 something versus the not yet widely released version 13.2 that is getting incredible reviews so these drives will only get better from here, pretty amazing. While driving an EV requires a few more stops and each stop is longer which adds to the time of the trip, it did allow you to skip a hotel stay for a night which saved time and money too. What also saves money is the lower per mile cost of a Tesla for wear and tear and maintenance which could factor in at 5¢ (or maybe 10¢) a mile in savings. Your per money energy costs are right in line with supercharging which I ballpark at 40¢ per kWh for trip planning. At that one huge Tesla Supercharging location I would have chosen a faster charging stall like one of the new V4's (black cabinets) that can charge at the max speed your Tesla can handle. Just imagine what FSD will be able to do in a year from now!
@Trialnerror
@Trialnerror Ай бұрын
Yes, this was 12.5 and I can't wait for 13. Funny thing is that on the way back, because I hit some of the higher cost stations at night, it only cost me $120 total. Nothing gas powered could do 1,565 miles for $120!

I know the time's coming but I can hardly wait. Until I can just sleep in the car, it'll pull up to a charging station and charge itself and continue on its way. I'll just get up and eat and do a couple of bathroom stops on the trip and not have a worry in the world, just like a little kid.

How many times did you have to intervene with “FSD”? I only counted one time when it shut off on you. Any others? How less fatigued where you if you had ever down the same trip in an ICE?
@Trialnerror
@Trialnerror Ай бұрын
Just the one time. I've since come back home and it only cost $120 due to more overnight charging. So a total of one intervene over 3,130 miles traveled! I've never been able to do this trip without staying one night in NC/SC so the FSD does make a huge difference. I just never felt safe driving that tired but with FSD, you feel like someone (something) else is always got your back.

Probably not wise to make a video that documents that you are watching television while driving the car. That said, I also generally use many fewer charging stops than the car suggests and it’s much faster that way.

Gas isn’t the only expense associated with cars and road tripping. If gasoline was free, electric cars would still be cheaper to operate throughout their lifetime. The maintenance expenses on a properly maintained ICE engine and vehicle over 400K miles are quite high. I chose 400K as an example as that seems like about how long a high-voltage pack will last.

I've been traveling the east coast for the last 4 months in a 2020 Model 3 Performance and it's been great. The Full Self Driving definitely makes it dramatically easier but I'm really hoping to get version 13. 12 has been jerky lately and keeps slamming on the brakes when it sees the light change to yellow.

V13 isn't coming to HW3. It is being trained on HW4 cameras with higher resolution / more pixels and optimized for the HW4 computer. TBD what they will do for HW3 but right now they are focused on getting feature complete on HW4. (And AI5 is coming in 2026.)
