Thanks for the shout-out, would be really keen to see the firmware update fix the max shutter in auto iso, it feels like a simple fix but at the same time time-lapse improvements must get put so low on the engineer's list of priorities that whatever review we make, they don't happen as other features take precedent. I really like the in body rendering after the shoot feature though, all cameras should have that.

Check out the battery grip, it allows for hot swapping the batteries while leaving the camera on! I love my s5!

Are you using the mechanical shutter? When you switch to electronic shutter on Lumix cameras it is limited to 1 second. Thanks for the good honest review!

I mostly use the 24-105 and 16-35, sunset to night depends on your subject, but waterloo bridge has a nice view of the square mile with the suns setting behind you, leading to good reflections

great video and thanks for posting. i am a high altitude climber and will be attempting to summit Everest next April. i currently take all my pics on iphone. i really want to learn astrophotography and video creation before i go next year, the problem i struggle with instruction manels for most things so is this camera easy to use for a beginner? also what is the best way for a beginner to learn astro photography using the s5 without becoming overwhelmed ?

I recommend an interval of 10 or 15 seconds! Set it to auto iso and in aperture priority mode with exposure leveling on and you'll be sweet!

Hi Matthew, ty for the video, it is very helpful. Could you advise me, I want to buy Lumix S5 for timelapses of the workshop and fieldwork. I will use Premiere Pro to edit the videos. I want to leave the camera on the stand recording while charging for many hours. Would you recommend this camera for this purpose? Is it possible to make continuous recording 24fps (30fps) for example for 4hrs? Is it going to be one long video or divided into many short ones?

For expore leveling what is the maximum ISO? I set it to maximum 6400 but 3200 seems to be maximum, is that right? Does the S1 can exceed 1sec Shutter speed in this mode?

Thank you for this video! I recently got this camera but I need to get a proper len for a telephoto. I'm very scared with prices, lumix doesn't seem to have a lot of lenses in the market and what scares me more are lens prices. I want to get a 70-200mm for this camera but I feel I will need to invest around 2k, while for sony-a7iii or nikon z6 (although they are older) i can probably get an second hand telephoto for less money or maybe it is just a matter of time until lumix or leica release new lenses? What are your thoughts on this? Thank you

Wow already very usefull! Haven't got it yet actually, still doing timelapse on a gopro hero 8. But one of the better videos out there, so subscribed. Looking to pick it up in a couple of months. Have a mavic 2 pro of course, so not totally useless. From -22 in Norway, keep up the videos! Was -27 not long ago, and wow batteries don't really work in those temps. Do you think the s5 would? How good is it going to be in cold temps? And I mean lower than -15 C.

HI there, thank you so much for sharing your time lapse knowledge! I'm new to it, but learning. I have the S1 and was wounding, can I use the exposure leveling option for hyper lapses ? I see how to use it for time-lapse, but I would love to have this feature on, yet be able to shoot manually (as I move around). I'm not seeing that I can do that. I mean, I guess I can set its for 5 or 10 secs and just frame my subject each time and let the camera take the pic.. that's the only way I see to do it though. Thanks again! External intervalometer. Ally my several Olympus cameras and some of my Lumix cameras have high res modes. None of them combines that with timelapse. I could set the camera to high res, trigger remotely for up to 187 megapixels per image. Timing would need to account for think time between shots.

Not really, but I don't often shoot silent mode as some cameras lower the quality in that mode.

@@MatthewVandeputte I fixed the problem keeping the aperture wide open on my 24-105...for some reasons, my Panasonic Lens is staying wide open and then it close the aperture blades to the desired aperture everytime the camera takse a picture...this is causing the fickering problem :\

If you can make 1386 raw Photos with a 2200 mAh (20% less than in normal Temperature), that's means you can take 1386(Pict) x 03(Sec) = 1 Hour and 15 minutes of use. With normal weather you can win 20 % of time and add 277 Pictures at your Timelapse for a total of 01 H 38 Minutes of use before changing your Battery. Am I correct ?

Glad to know that for some purpose, the S5 gets high ratings. Recently bought it - and now I feel I am stuck with it. The autofocus is horrible and the battery life terrible. I will try the time-lapse - want to learn more about the technicalities first.

Every other camera has a basic switch to trigger the shutter. Lumix cameras have a voltage splitter, the camera is sensitive to the voltage of the signal to shoot. I think, but I am not sure, tha this allows one to use the remote to choose between video and stills. I quite like the idea of a timelapse video. Wake the camera, it shoots (say) ten seconds, then goes back to sleep. Fin, maybe five minutes, you trigger it again.

Wrong, you can disable the interval shooting, set a half second exposure and let it run as fast as your card can write. Or use an external controller with sub 1-second intervals, or use S&Q mode (video though) etc

A shutter speed of half a second does not go well with shooting hyperlases in motion using a gimbal stabilizer. "Or use an external controller with sub 1-second intervals" Yes, you can use external CUSTOM build (and expensive) intervalometer to achieve this effect, but this is not a feature of the camera itself. "or use S&Q mode (video though) etc" And lose the ability to process RAW files before rendering my hyperlapse.
