Today our Toyota Tacoma gets a BIG upgrade! A homebuilt rear 3 link with Bilstein coil overs. This job isn't for everyone. You need to have a very good understanding of what you are doing and how to use basic fabrication tools. But if you are good with a grinder and decent with a welder, these types of projects are great! Having a smooth ride and lots of wheel travel is a must for any off-roader. From rock crawling to overlanding we ALL can benefit from increased comfort and capability offroad. Educate yourself on these systems, have fun nerding out on the details and most of all enjoy the video! Even if this doesn't inspire you to build some one off suspension components I hope it inspires you to get more involved with the evolution of your truck! Don't let your mechanic have all the fun!

I’m a disabled combat vet. Just got into the off-road scene, I bought an 01 Nissan Xterra that I want to build myself. Working on projects helps me with my ptsd. I’ve been glued to your videos for weeks now, I have no experience on building custom rigs like this but I feel that with your videos and attention to detail I can make my Xterra a beast on the trail, I’m a carpenter, bought a welder to make steel furniture with wood and glass. I saw videos of you building bumpers, rock sliders, and all type of cool stuff. I just want to thank you for taking the time to explain in detail and how thing work for complete newbs like myself. It gives me motivation to build things outside my comfort zone, but like I said, with your videos I fell that I can build this myself. So thank you, you have no clue how excited it is for me to learn from you, and your builds. I’m sure there are plenty of people out there that fell the same way. I never comment on any videos I watch, but I feel that I have to thank you and tell you that I have much respect for what you do and what you can build. You are an amazing builder and I hope to learn a lot more from you. Thank brotha, and god bless.

@@liampatterson9396 I'm doing the same on my 98 tacoma, I'm tired of ifs and leaf springs , I want it all gone lol, I've even by toying with the idea of building a completely new chassis , it would be easier in the end rather than dealing with a rusty frame that has been patched already,

I love to see a three link in the rear. This thing is turning out great. When talking about the angle of the panhard bar, you need to consider the roll center will be where the panhard bar crosses the axle centerline. So its angle and height will affect how the rear of the chassis rolls. Packaging is often the primary driver, but roll center should be a consideration. I don't know how in depth you got on the theory side, i.e. roll axis, anti-squat, pinion angle change through travel, etc. I know you are on a deadline here. Also, if the panhard bar is angled at ride height then the side to side (lateral) forces it transfers will be partly converted to vertical forces and you could have a jacking or squat effect when cornering depending on if you turn left or right and the direction the bar is angled. This is primarily a concern on road, however, where speeds are higher, but it could come up off road on side slopes or off camber situations. I am surprised you didn't fish mouth the boxing plates welded to the inside of the frame. The fish mouth gradually increases the rigidity of the frame while a straight section increases the rigidity all at once. The straight sections should be more prone to cracking in the corners, but that doesn't necessarily mean cracks will form. It all depends on the forces. For instance: www.ford-trucks.com/user_gallery/tmp/549/54978.520.390

You do a fantastic job of explaining these design/setup concepts. I really appreciate those whiteboard clips because learning about suspensions geometry and layout is so important for diagnosing problems with your rig and not paying someone else tons to do it for you after a tow truck bill. Plus I am just a firm believer in the fact that if you understand your vehicle, you have a better appreciation for mods and why something is designed the way it is. Great work! I am trying to incorporate this into more of my videos as well. You are killin' it.
