Great comparison Will. As a "Rotax guy", and boater with over 50 years experience, I don't think I could argue with a single thing you said. Both are great boats, with some very real pros and cons, you have to decide what's most important for you. What I'd love to see now is an identical comparison between these, and a similar-sized center-console that's outboard powered, with a lot of emphasis on the differences due to the powerplants. How does the performance compare, space, efficiency, etc. Anyway, great job!

The Yamaha brand has had over 20 years in the jet space. The Scarab brand only about 7 years. I believe Yamaha is the better of the two boats in many ways but the Scarab does bring some new design concepts to the market which pushes Yamaha to improve and to up the bar every year. Its good to have the two of them competing in this space.

Great thorough video! You showed performance from a drag race / high-speed perspective on smooth water, but how do either of these perform in rougher, choppy water, or offshore in 3-5’ seas? On a lake this may not be an issue, but for a saltwater CC boat, they need to be able to handle the weather, winds, & waves changing quickly... That said, I am currently in the market for a 25’ CC boat and have been leaning towards the Yamaha due to the “fishability”. I also think it’s really the “SUV” of boats - good shallow water capabilities, “fishability”, along with a lot of “family friendly” features.
@JetBoatPilot3 жыл бұрын

While not really feasible for a short video on new boats, a potential purchaser should also consider overall quality and durability. The Yamaha would win there hands down. The peace of mind of Yamaha durability and the fact that all of the major components are engineered and manufactured by the same company and can all be serviced at a Yamaha service center is huge. You also could have done a fuel capacity/range comparison and perhaps a sound test at speed. Otherwise, great video and comparison.
@justinorta62613 жыл бұрын
Good comparison. If you want a fishing machine with comfort, the Yamaha is for you. The Simrad has depth and fish finder. The Yamaha created a better casting platform for fishing all over the boat So far only through half of the video. So, sorry if I am jumping the gun on my comments. Also, on the captain’s bolster you normally will be leaning on the leaning post and not sitting when going offshore. Some also use the center consul changing area to also use a porta-let if needed.
@monkeywrench-garage3 жыл бұрын
I think you cheated the Yamaha a bit on maneuverability. The ability to independently use each engine in different directions gives the Yamaha a huge advantage in that slow speed maneuverability category over the single throttle of the Scarab.
@JetBoatPilot3 жыл бұрын
That's fair. I should have mentioned that. Good point.
@alexnutcasio9362 жыл бұрын
Agreed, seems to me he’s missing a lot of variables in this comparison. Having dual engines in tight spaces or around a dock is huge advantage for either boat, but not properly using the Yamaha jets independently, which you can’t do on Scarab, is big too. The performance testing portion with two short drag races was very disappointing too. Why not run em both out and show the top end on both?

Thank you. We missed a few points but hit all the points that we felt were most important. Also I did not mention the sleeve over the impeller shift, but once again I don't see it as a value so I did not include it.

On the Yamaha we see ample room in the changing room to add batteries for the trolling motor. Probably 3 will fit under that shelf. I did not see as much room for the extra batteries on the Scarab. Both come with dual battery setups from the factory so your stereo is probably good. The twin screen on the Yamaha was way better the nab screen was excellent the scarab was trash to small hard to see. Far as around the dock maneuvering twin throttle is was better hands down then single lever. For me it’s Yamaha for the overall win
@Kenneth_Rogers2 жыл бұрын
Hard agree about the price point. Scarab costs way more with way less, and once you add the options to match what the Yamaha has, you're much closer to $110k. On to the point about the helm; once again, hard agree. Having the ability to have a map that size at a glance with both live view and depth finder is invaluable. I know it'll drive the price up by $5k but if Yamaha adds the "Drive" system to the 255, it takes all the marbles for slow speed usability. Only thing I see that the Scarab wins at is max H.P. but since it's Rotax, it'll break down every 5 hours.

That door on the Scarab hardtop is upside down! Also I’m not sure how that tailgate protects you from emissions. Falling off yes, but not emissions.
@JetBoatPilot3 жыл бұрын
My assumption is air flow from Above the bow is able to dilute the exhaust gases enough to make it safe. If the area were open without the tailgate it may create a Vortex? These are only assumptions but I presume this is something that was considered in the construction of the tailgate

The scarab boats are built very cheap and without common sense. From the buttons on the helm that looks like they got it from a hardware store, the cheap cushions with all the snaps which would get rusty instead of the cushions being part of the actual panels. The speakers on the helm facing sideway instead of backwards, the cup holders metal ring look cheap. The single screen with a small GPS, having to remove back rests cushions in order to change configuration which it is a pain in da a. The rear ladder that can only be used if the platform is in locked position. The roof seems smaller on the scarab. I can go on and on.. and all Scarabs designers should simply get fired. Is like comparing a Corolla with a Mercedes Benz, but in this case both boats and all scarabs are pretty much price as the Yamaha.

My spouse didn’t want an aquarium in the house, so I paid 100k for the Yamaha for the aerated live well. It runs 24/7 in my garage as an expensive aquarium.

Great video, but I’m still shaking my head that neither boat has a dedicated toilet. Both are awesome boats but if I’m 10-20 miles off shore with family and friends and people need to take a dump! Oh, just jump into the ocean naked and do your business 😮😅

I'll say really like scarab helm alot better not enough to change my mind and buy over Yamaha I like the name Yamaha that is really what seals the deal for me little shit dose matter the fact the helm of Yamaha has no cup holders is horable you'll notice that every time om the boat .

You can't be serious. Jet boats have notoriously short life spans and are uber expensive to repower.

SO this guy who sells Yamaha parts is non biased in his comparison ??? I DONT THINK SO !!!!!

We sell parts for both brands.

Yamaha is the better boat here. Completely and fairly compared. I didn't hear any bias during the verdicts. Scarab made a fishing boat without livewells or coolers built in as standard equipment and are charging $20k more for lower build quality and Rotax engines that make 50 hp more each but are significantly less reliable.

Very cool video! The Very big negative with jet boats is you are pushing water unlike a outboard engine you are turning Water with a lot more torque! And the engine noise is unbearable on the jet boats..those boats may run 50 mph with on person..but put 5 adults plus coolers and fishing gear?? It's a fat slow pig..I'll keep my Contender!!!.put it up against and jet boat with 5ft seas !! Guarantee you will be calling sea tow !! Lol 😆 🤣 😂
@JetBoatPilot3 жыл бұрын
I am sure the contender is a solid boat. Most jet Boaters are buying them for many reasons. They do alot of things really well and are truly a Swiss army knife of a boat, especially the Yamaha.
