A little extra for the dive back to first: as you dive back, you should have your head turned to the left. This means you will be reaching with your right hand. (Keep eyes on the base) This does two things. First, it protects your face from a low throw that might hit you in the face. Secondly, if it's a wild throw that goes by the first baseman, you will see it and may have an opportunity to steal 2nd. Also, other reasons to go for back corner is that it minimizes the chance of the first baseman's foot being in the way of the bag or him accidentally stepping on you if he has to come off to get the throw.

I'm a freshman and I want to play high school baseball, but Ive never played before and I can't hit a ball to save my life. I tried out last year for Jr high baseball, but I didn't make the team. I live in a small area so there are no other local teams, any advise?

Novice here, So, even though you are off base, if the catcher catches the ball, you can still run to second base if your quick enough correct? They won't call it back?

Great video sir. Every kid on my team when they steal looks in the strike zone. My son is the only one who doesn’t because I learned that when I played high school ball and I have passed it onto my son. We’ve worked on it in practice but come game time it’s like they forget everything.

Or steal third like a big boy and the hitter gets an RBI instead of just getting you third and maybe having 2 outs when you go to score and potentially being the third. The chances of the batter hitting you a double is slimmer than just stealing third.

Why is not common to dive into 3rd base, similar to 1st base?

Only issue I have about #1 if reaching with right hand, the swipe tag can push your hand off the base. I would say reach with left hand to resist the push off by the first baseman. Have had that problem and needed to train people to do this.
@cazualgamerjp6 жыл бұрын
Can you please show how to dive into first base instead of just describing it? I get that you don't want to do that with your shorts on, but you can always wear long pants for the dive.

Hahahaha, yeah, get dirty coach.
@owenyoungg16 жыл бұрын
Its like if you were diving into second headfirst, but you wanna be more on the left side of the bag when sliding back so it harder for the first basemen to pick you. I don't know if this wil help you with your question.
