Hi guys my name is Jason Leung, I am a 4th Dan in Shotokan Karate, with over 20 years of experience. In today's Karate Lesson we are learning Kata Bassai Dai (Shotokan). Bassai Dai loosely translates to "Breach the Fortress", characteristic of it's opening move, which charges straight into battle.
Kata Bassai Dai is one of my favorite Shotokan Kata to practice. I love the rhythm and flow of this kata, graceful movements, followed with sharp explosive precision.

I think the training at kihon and the répétition of every part of kata will help him to improve the speed ,power and stabilité,also you Can seach on KZbin for som exercices for devloping the kata,and don't forget the training at fisiq because it is very importent in kata,I Hope that will help you ❤

Interesting to see how in most karate styles you put your hand slowly in fort of you (like a slow knive hand block) but in tang soo do we have translated that motion to be a forward finger strike.

My Kiai is like a T-Rex/Lion Roar, so they say…😂 Hanshi taught me to project Louder by using your Diaphragm & to breathe in threw the nose and out threw mouth. That actually helped my SEVERE ANXIETY & also a louder Kiai too.

Brilliant, 10 minutes, enough info to use without messing around in the middle :D great that I can slow it down in settings too. But I'm still struggling with that turn and groin strike after the double rib strike and punch, then you turn and I can't get my hands right for the open palm groin strike?

Hello friend, The best way to learn the kata is break the kata up into sequences. For example "Beginning, Middle, & End". I would start by practicing the first few moves until your body can remember without thinking. From there, add on the next few techniques, and then repeat the process. It is very hard to learn the whole kata fast, especially advanced kata. Start slow, and practice the first sequence until it becomes easy. Keep going, practice a little bit everyday, and you will learn the kata! Oss, Jason
