BEING A TOURNAMENT ORGANIZER IS HELL.
A bunch of recent incidents have prompted some on social media to call out TOs as being problematic. But is being a TO all its cracked up to be? Is this actually something people want to become to achieve fame, fortune, and clout?

I'm coming from the Poverty/Obscure game scene. We TO strictly because Nobody else will run the games we want to see tournaments for. Sure there are tournaments almost daily for the new stuff, but if you wanna run a specific niche game, you gotta do it yourself otherwise no one else will. You cant rely on a major having that one obscure game you really want people to give a chance. TO's in our circuit really wanna push the Games over anything else, including their own clout. The tournaments are meant to be examples of why people should run the games we run, highlighting the hype matches and showing off how much the community loves the game. That tweet refuses to understand that TO's do it in part because they love the games themselves and want to see them shine.

LMAO. Aside from Jebailey's Twitch "fame", FGC is too insular to be considered famous outside of a couple of outliers at best. I imagine they make some money, word of mouth is not much, but if it was lucrative there would be way more tournaments. I imagine insurance and logistics is a nightmare. You have to be in it for more than fame/money imo.

Basically this. What kind of fame would someone be looking for?

At the end of the day, it used to be the fighting game community. You'd have so many different personalities. These days, a select one or 2 people get to say who is a part of that and be the moral arbiters for how you must live your life. It is rotten in my opinion. In 99% of cases, if it had nothing to do with what happened at a tournament, T/O's need to stay the hell out of it. It's just cancel culture and needs to be called out.

I only wants to know WHY Capcom and EVO TO banned *Infiltration* for life without give him any reason at all. The guy never do any harm at anyone in tournament and he appeal his banned but Capcom or EVO TO never unbanned him.

The notion that someone has to do something to someone AT a tournament is flawed. Of course, that brings up the argument that then you should have to vet EVERYONE at EVERY event. And honestly? If it was possible, I'm sure it would happen. Like any professional sport, players can have misconduct off of the court and still be suspended even if not related to the sport the athlete is in. And yes, every player is scrutinized because they have that ability to do so in professional sports. If a relatively unknown and up and coming tennis player played in the junior leagues or the preliminaries/qualifiers for a Grand Slam event was discovered to have some form of criminal background, you'd bet they'd be suspended and barred from entering. This is not me saying anything one way or the other on Infiltration and whether he should or should not be banned. I'm just stating that that aspect that many people parrot, the "at" tournament factor, is not applicable. So with the limited resources a community like the FGC or any OTHER small community has, it can only ban the ones they know of after doing due diligence.

I'm glad I don't constantly live my life on Twitter so I don't have to see dumb takes like this all the time.

Forreal. I saw the title of this and i am like, "I'm gonna play this in the background because it's James, but this is a non-topic." Hopefully he gets to talking about CB and Elchakotay's win with Lily... 😊

While you’re right, it’s also a good way to find excuses to tell old stories and really talk about what goes into being a TO.

@@UltraChenTV and that's why I'm so glad you kept up with the show. I know covid had a major negative effect on the community, and also seeing David move on sucked. Not going to lie like I've been here since the beginning, or I even know when it started, but decade plus strong and Tuesdays are definitely Tuesdays because of "The Tuesday Show". Whether or not if that's the current moniker.

Clearing the Bluetooth queue manually every match has to be mandatory. If it adds a couple of minutes to the proceedings, meh.

As a pad player I know that disconnecting a pad isn't enough. One needs to go into the settings and delete the pad. Even if one disconnects (on PlayStation at least) if the PS bitton is pressed, the controller will connect. I think that judges of pools should delete all controls in between matches. It will take time, bit it protects the integrity of the game.

This match between JDCR and AK; calling either player a cheater is way out of proportion, both players are at a default. Blame the person that was using the wireless controller from the previous matches did not disconnected their pad properly. TO is at fault by allowing the match to restart from full health instead of where both players left off, the result changes the outcome of the match. Next time TO needs to do their job due diligence by eliminating future tournaments game interruption or BAN wireless controller from all events.

Again, it's too impossible to do the health properly. If we just arbitrarily set their healths to an approximation, and AK wins with a comeback and a pixel left, people will cry "But they gave him 2 extra pixels he didn't have!" There's just no way to re-set the health without duplicating the exact hits that occurred during the match. It was in the rules stated exactly that way: the round starts with full health. And that rule came from the TWT, not Dreamhack. So The TOs did nothing wrong outside of making sure the players desynced all controllers before the match. THAT part we can criticize the TOs for.

@@UltraChenTV I'm referring to the viewers that's calling AK a cheater. I'm fully understood about the rules which a 3rd party played a huge role by screwing up the match. Don't we all humans played by moral consciousness in a congruent society knowing that life isn't fair by rules and laws? AK is either accept the loss or play his way out of the match to become the winner. As I were saying, Jebaily is at fault for allowing to happened. Not only that he created a mess within the FGC community coming from a sponsor wasn't too pleased about their players being debacle knowing he's the actual winner. At least give JDCR the free paid trip, a hotel and entry to Sweden Dreamhack as a commendation to make up for the loss of being possibly a top 8 placing to qualify for the EWC event. I don't condone death threats especially from the audiences which made towards Jebaily on social media platforms. I certainly agree on the notion that TO from now on should disconnect all controllers from the PC or PS5 before letting players starting the match in future events. If it still happen again, just mandatory ban wireless controller.

Well, Jebailey was definitely implying that he was gonna do a lot of that for JDCR and DreamHack Sweden. So hopefully he is taken care of.

Man pad players have more then enough advantage. Events should require only wired connected controllers. The entire Bluetooth controller stuff is really annoying to deal with at events.
