Thanks for the Kolb Firefly info and cool flight videos. So envious of the roll it out of the barn and go flying convenience. I've been looking at the Aerolite 103, CGS Hawk Sport and the Kolb Firefly, all configured for FAR Part 103 compliance. While I like the looks and build of the Aerolite 103, the sail cloth fabric wing sleeves and lack of folding wings knocks it out of the running. Though, the company being about 70 miles away had me swayed for a moment. I like the Hawk Sport, but again put off by the sail cloth fabric wing sleeves and it does not seem to have quite the ease of wing folding and unfolding. I also liked the fact that the company was only 100 miles away from me. So, unless I happen upon a Firefly like counterpart, I'm pretty much sold on the Kolb. Credit the ease of folding wings, the more durable conventional fabric covering, agility, and small stored footprint. If you haven't already, could you provide current as flown weight? I didn't see a N number, so I guessing you're in 103 compliance. Wish they'd just round up to 300lbs so as to afford more engine options. The Hirth F23 looks like a clear winner if weight compliant. Not sure about the other higher powered offerings. As a public service announcement; I found a 2019 model with a 447 Rotax for sale in NY for $8,700 and a claimed 20 hours on the engine, likely airframe as well. Nice price for such a late model unit, assuming it hadn't been crashed, but a little out of range for self pickup. Currently listed on Barnstormers, if anyone is interested. Love your videos, thank you for posting. What are your comfortable wind condition limits with the Kolb?
@bkairys3 жыл бұрын
Can take alot of crosswind since there is not alot of surface area to the boom tube compared to a normal airplane. Most fun to fly in light conditions tho..

I love your videos, HOWEVER, you MUST start flying EARLIER in the day, because the lowlight optics REALLY SUCK! Your vlogs are not only entertaining, but they are also instructional in nature (from my point of view) and if the observable daylight is not conducive for viewers to be able to see necessary ground details (ie, when you dropped down into that short field for the high angle of attack approach, because of the low light, ground details were pretty much a wash, indescernable, and forget trying to gauge height from ground! Please, MORE light.... Cheers from the Oil Patch in Central WY PS. I despise two-stroke engines; they're loud, eat too much gas and oil, and just generally are not conducive to an enjoyable riding experience (on the ground or in the air). 4 Stroke is my preferred engine style......doing my research to find viable options to the plethora of 2 strokes out there.
@bkairys4 жыл бұрын
Normally I would, but that day was really windy. Check my other videos for better. I have 4 stroke power in mind for the future. This rotax is hard to beat for hp per pound.
@shannonwhitaker96304 жыл бұрын
You can't pay much attention to what people say....especially on You Tube. Yeah Yeah two strokes suck whatever...whatever you think guy. I'm going flyin' and you can sit on the ground from now on and contemplate your plans, fears, hopes dreams and schemes. What you think sucks and what you will not do is definitely not my problem.
@jrbailey32084 жыл бұрын
@@shannonwhitaker9630 Didn't say my OPINIONS were anyone's problems but my own! You seem to be overly BUTTHURT by someone who stated FACTS, which YOU could NOT refute: so you chose to pitch a playground fit, scoop what few marbles you had left, and stomp off in a hissy fit! Why don't you try to GROW a pair and address the FACTS that even 2 stroke enthusiasts (HONEST PEOPLE, unlike yourself) admit to: 1. Two strokes EAT MORE FUEL 2. They are LOUDER than 4 stroke engines 3. They have TBO's that provides 4 to nearly 7 times FEWER Flight Hours than their 4 stroke competiion. The bottom line is that if 2 stroke is your thing, your money, your business. My money, my biz......I LIKE something that will econo-cruise and eat only 3-5 gallons an hour insteaed of 6-8 gallons an hour, and provide me with LESS maintenance requirements, and have TBO's of 1500-2000 hours instead of 300 hours. One size does NOT fit all. Now junior, hitch up your panties and find a corner for a Time Out. Cheers from the Oil Patch in Central WY
