Hey Rob stinker about the fuel evaporation. Easy lesson to learn, thankfully it was only coffee you had to go without. The thing about alcohol stoves in the cold is its also better to keep your fuel in a bottle somewhere you can keep it warm. It can be really difficult to light and keep lit if its allowed to get really cold. Great little stoves otherwise and so nice how quiet they are if you are not in a hurry. Great little trip!

Yep, that lid with the handle is called the “simmer/snuff” ring and is only used to diminish the flame or to put it out. Works faster without it. ⛺️👍👍☕️👎

I did a tarp setup on my AT thruhike a few times in blizzard conditions when I needed a break. I tied the middle of the tarp to a tree, secured rhe. Adjacent two corners around the base of the tree, then planted by hiking poles to secure the opposite two corners into the ground. It allowed a good reprieve from the wind and a single candle helped warm me up.
@BrooksandBirches Жыл бұрын
Nice! I'll have to try something like that. You essentially closed the tarp in and used the candle to heat the inside?

Nice video. Small saw and small hachet would have been nice to tote along. Coffee would then not be a problem. Plus, gotta have a small fire when camping to provide warmth and ambiance. Bring little squeeze bottle of extra fuel next time. Enjoyed the video very much.

Good call! I purposely avoided bringing a saw so I wasn't tempted to over do it with the shoulder but it definitely would have come in handy

I wish I could do a super light winter backpacking trip like you but where I am it would put my safety at risk . I alway's prefer to use matches with an alcool stove , way much easier to light. Hope you get well with your shoulder sacrebleu, you are still a young man ! Merci pour la vidéo Robert !

Hello Rob - Enjoyed the adventure, except the part where there was no morning coffee. I cannot even start breathing in the morning until after I have my coffee. It would have been one long walk getting out of there for me, without coffee. Where the heck is Starbucks when you really need it. Take Care - Hope the shoulder heals up soon. Regards, Randy in Arizon. It is 28 degrees and snow on the ground here in Arizona tonight.

Greetings! I want to ask everything, isn"t it cold to sleep on an inflatable mattress in winter? The air in it is cold. I tried it once, but it froze at night. Thank you and good luck!
@BrooksandBirches Жыл бұрын
You need to have one with the right R-Value. R-value is essentially the way to measure a substances insulating properties. The lower the R-Value the less insulating it will be. This sleeping pad has one of the highest R-values available at 6.9 I believe

I swear I could smell what you were cooking!! I cannot tell you how much I enjoy watching you set up your camp on each trip. Its like I am doing it myself, just not as good as you do. I like the lite set up, tho I know its not as warm as some of your others are but glad you conserved your bones by doing that. And no coffee, as Depeche Mode said, "sometimes God has a sick sense of humor". For me those alcohol stoves bite my ass, I stick my hand over to see if its lit, and F++k yes it is. Or I run out before get something cooked. Wierd. Again the God humor thing. Thanks!!
@BrooksandBirches Жыл бұрын
Haha yeah that was my first time using one and I couldn't tell if it was lit or not! I like the idea of just being able to buy one big jug of denatured alcohol rather than those tiny propane bottles all the time but it took a heck of a long time to boil that water!

Why do campers eat meals that make you crap fire 🔥 in the worst places, wait till you get home for that. Can’t think of anything worse than having that happen away from home. I’m not eating chili 🌶 or hot sauce in the freakin woods or curry.

@@BrooksandBirches It use to be like that for me until I hit 46. It seems a switch gets flipped upon reaching that age and the human body fails to perform any more the way it use to. You’ll just have to trust me on that.
