13:47 the reason the clips are out of sync is because the way the goggle dvr is encoded is to just drop the frames that the goggles don't receive and so the goggle dvr has less frames and therefore finishes sooner than the local recording. it doesn't have anything to do with the latency in real time
@AlessandroGarabaghi5 жыл бұрын
please correct this video. this is a lot of false information.
@ummagawdFPV5 жыл бұрын
Yes, you’re right. What happens to the goggle DVR is a result of missing “frames”. But what you experience in the goggles in real time is latency and there is a correlation. If the real time goggle view wasn’t experiencing latency, there wouldn’t be any missing frames, and the 2 clips would line up perfectly. I was trying to keep the explanation short in why I couldn’t simply show the raw DVR footage to show what the experience is like when latency occurs.
@KreezeTV5 жыл бұрын
@@ummagawdFPV we need to get some more research on what the latency readout is when the goggles start dropping frames. it's a shame that the dvr doesn't record that. perhaps in a firmware update
@AlessandroGarabaghi5 жыл бұрын
ummagawd no there’s a missed frame but you technically jump that frame and are then linked up with the air unit (what it’s currently latency). Lag doesn’t stack up.
@AlessandroGarabaghi5 жыл бұрын
ummagawd there is no data for the goggles to record.... Dji could insert a black frame but they prob prefer to focus processing power else where. Digital drops packets and there fore the goggles have nothing to record, you essentially skipped that frame and catch up with the air unit

Thanks for taking the time to fill in the freeze frames! Every other review mentioned that the frames would freeze but I never saw what they were talking about. When I looked at other reviews I would just think to myself that whatever they were talking about wasn’t that bad. It might have been time consuming, but it was worth it since your video is the only one I’ve seen that actually demonstrates to the audience what you’re seeing.
@leonfpv82615 жыл бұрын
This is a great video on how these technologies play with each other. 1. The dji will failsafe when plugged in on because it sends both control link and video link using 5.8. This sucks because you have zero chance of trying to rescue the quad. 2. With the analog receivers, we have to keep in mind Rapidfire does signal rejection. Hence its able to provide a video signal even when the dji is plugged in on it. However, this also tells us that the DJI goggles do not have signal rejection because the video locks up when analog plugs in on it. So moral of the story of a DJI pilot shows up just let them have race band and the analog guys use another band. Actually, it would be interesting to see what the dji system does if an analog signal on another band plugs in next to it. Even though the bands are different I wonder what that noise next to the goggles would do. Great video bro!!
@ummagawdFPV5 жыл бұрын
Ahhh man you right, I should have brought up that RF has signal rejection features!
@PowerScissor5 жыл бұрын
How does the signal rejection work? I've had someone plug in next to me on the same video channel and my Rapidfire switched to showing the video from his camera. While I didn't failsafe, I had to disarm immediately so I didn't end up over the lake we were flying by....so same result. Is that a scenario where Rapidfire should have rejected his signal...even though his quad was 200 times closer than my quad?
@leonfpv82615 жыл бұрын
PowerScissor if it’s the same channel and band it won’t reject it. But if it’s a neighboring channel on the same band it will reject it and try to stay locked on your channel. With analog your video can bleed onto the channels next to it, hence channel spacing when you fly with others. It also depends on the vtx being used and it’s power output.

Like you I have a BIG quiver of kwads ...my thoughts ...there is NO COMPARISON between DJI and Analog. TWO DIFFERENT ANIMALS. Get the DJI for the VISUAL EXPERIENCE. In close or long distance cruising it is brilliant. colors clarity detail ...brilliant. If you have to compare analog OR DJI you are missing the boat. As most radios are 900mhz, 1.3 or 2.4, it will not interfere with 5.8, in theory. Spread spectrum should also cope better with all interference. I'm surprised DJI didn't go spread spectrum. Their lightbridge system uses spread spectrum across two bands.

0:30 I was totally that guy at my first FPV race. It was a disaster. 3:48 I think they mean will the DJI radio and connections work with other FCs. I can’t speak for all of the but I had full functionality with iNAV in my Wing. You DO need a Flight controller if you are going to use a the DJI radio 5:07 Yes, but it will require a flight controller like iNAV if you are using the DJI radio 13:50 It’s not latency you are experiencing, it’s packet loss. I’m not the only IT nerd here I’m sure. :-) I’m surprised people are making a big deal about this. Analog does the EXACT same thing. Most goggles don’t record the dropped frames. That is one reason on Analog I use my Skyzones. They record all frames and since I always show my FPV feed and not a GoPro it makes it MUCH easier to edit. 20:32 “Channel 8 looks good” Lol, after seeing the digital though that is hard to say. 22:50 It’s to bad the radio isn’t still using a spread spectrum even if the video feed can’t. If you are a racer you should be using a separate system for control for sure.

I think some people are still conflating what essentially amounts to "packet loss" with "response times" . Also, on the same subject. Showing the stuttering in the goggle feed is a better representation of whatthe pillot is seeing live. Those videos on other channels, just showing one video being slower then another, doesn't really represent what you see in the goggles like Tommy has shown. The stuttering is bad. but if the video feed lagged like is being represented in some of these videos on other channels the kwad would be unflyably. As you can see Ummagwad still maintains control. There is more to this and I expect DJI will explain further

That desync in the video is not latency, it is the missed frames! Latency is the time it takes the image to go from the camera to your screen, so input > encoder > transport > decoder > output

I had that a few weeks ago. I fly alone on a spot without any wifi interference (out of nowhere). Someone come to my place and want to do some pictures of the Spot (with a cam). I said no problem, but while i flying he pluged in a Mavic Air. He was 10-15 meters away and i got heavy white lines like you got at 19:20, but not with black pixels, just full white bars (4-5 all over the screen). I could still fly and land. I think when you fly the DJI FPV and someone plug Mavic or some cheap wifi drone (Toys or other brands), they can knock you out of the sky. Maybe you can test this next time (no need for a Video, when you can answer here it would be great). Sorry for my english. Greetings from germany, and fly safe ;-)

Nice breakdown. I'm still fighting the urge, as in the Credit Card trigger finger is still itchy.... Even with all the negatives, I am thinking it would be so nice to be able to have a "special occasion" setup. I can justify the price for that, and I fly alone, or we take turns when I fly with friends, so the interference isn't a big problem. The other issues I could deal with as well, no matter what setup you fly, you have to know it's character and fly it accordingly. The big stumbling block for me is "is this going to ruin all my other quads??" I'm totally NOT joking here, if this ruins the experience for me with the rest of my collection (12-20 quads depending on maintenance situation), I'm going to be disappointed. That being said, I know I gotta try it. I'm going to wait until Fatshark breaks theirs out if I can, but I really think I gotta get one nice flying HD setup and see where it takes me. Thanks for answering the questions (Diopter was a big deal for me) and digging into a lot of the practical considerations for us hobby fliers. I'd expect there are a lot of us who would like a "Saturday afternoon cruisin" setup for fun flying, and aren't looking for a "get the footage regardless of broken parts count" hardcore setup. Looking forward to the next installment of your experience with the system.

Another reason why you should stick to 900mhz or 2.4ghz control link, so you don't get instant FS. If your friend plugs in and you start getting freeze frame or high latency, quickly change your goggle channels to a clean band and it will change the vtx channel simultaneously.

Great video Tommy. Question - why does the 915mhz (I’m guessing CRSF) control link on the “non” DJI quad just failsafe the DJI 5.725-5.850GHz control link system? 🤔
@killadrones94325 жыл бұрын
its because everything is on 5.8 control and video
@ARI3S5 жыл бұрын
Killa Drones they are 2 very different frequency spectrums. This should definitely not be happening. Power output on the CRSF has to be noted in this video for “data” purposes. If it is set to full power and not dynamic then that would “maybe” have an impact. And that depends on the TX module that Tommy was using whether it be the micro (full 250mw) or full sized (1W). It is definitely something worth exploring 👍
@pesm995 жыл бұрын
It’s the 5.8 vtx and not the 915Mhz tx of the non-DJI quad that is killing the DJI control link.

I use the Goggles RE (what you're referring to as red/black) as my primary FPV goggles, and I love them. For their digital link to Occusync Air though, they use a mix of 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz, it's the same system in the Phantom 4 etc. The new FPV Air is only 5.8 GHz which is why it's not compatible. It's a shame though, if it was compatible I'd have bought several FPV Air units already.

When the clips are way off could it be the air unit writing the hd to disk causing delay? Not the sd card but the DJI DSP recording? As long as it saves file delay then is not as much a factor as long as goggles are low latency. Our brains adapt like with static we never see until we playback or goggle recordings.
