I really needed this today. I've been fighting with myself to get up and clean & organize for the past couple month. So much so that I cry myself to sleep at night with thoughts that there must be something wrong with me that I can't get up to get my home in order. I've had a few deaths in my family this month so I'm certain that's another reason for keeping myself depressed and inactive but I need remember that those two souls that have left this earth wouldn't want me feeling this way. Thank you Kathryn for this motivation. ❤️
@katesanders22193 жыл бұрын
You are absolutely right that those people would not want you feeling like this! Some things that can help me is 1) setting a timer with a small amount of time (maybe 15 minutes), 2) going around the house and dealing with only the obvious (for example, only trash or only things I immediately know I want to donate), and 3) just picking the absolute "worst"/most critical task and giving yourself permission to tackle only that one task (something small, not "the entire basement" or something). Give yourself some grace; you don't have to be perfect, just work on making some progress. I'd suggest you have a chat with your doctor, too, as you may need a little help getting through this (either from therapy or medicine; there's nothing wrong with either of those!). ❤️

Don’t be too hard on yourself; you have been through a lot with the loss of your 2 loved ones. Just pick one small cupboard or cabinet or even just one countertop or shelf and make it your goal to just get one done each day. Put on some music or a podcast that you enjoy, and often times you will feel motivated to keep going. If you can only do one shelf, it’s ok! That’s one less area you have to focus on next time. Little by little your entire space will get done. Sending love and encouragement your way. 🙏🕊💝

Kathryn, you are such a bright light. I have been following you for years and you just get better every day. I also love tackling one small space at a time (like under the kitchen sink) because the space is only so large and can visualize the finish line - therefore, I know I will start and finish the project. When I just say “declutter my house,” I start here and there and never really complete a space. I learned the one-space-at-a-time from you, so THANK YOU! Keep the videos coming. YOU, too, are enough, Kathryn! 💕

@pyl44723 жыл бұрын
Will like to add a bit of a contradictory note to that! We use shelf liners as well for some cabinets/drawers, but we mostly wipe them down every now and then rather than junking them. The surface makes it easier to clean up, and replacing them so often may be adding to the landfill issue if they are not broken down yet. Just some suggestions for those looking at this option!

You are such a motivator. I love your ideas. It's important for people to realize you don't have to use the exact products or do it the exact way. Like you said, only you know what works best for you. I have 6 adults in an 1800 sq foot 2 bath house. I take your ideas and Amanda's from This Crazy Life. But sameness is important for me. So is using every inch of available space. I need bins with straight sides and as close to the shelf size as possible. And it all has to match. That's what works for me. Someone else may need bright colors and another may need all white. That's what works for them. My advise is just do it and do it how it works best for you. And remember, you are enough! I love that saying.

This is amazing! I've been thinking about the issue of too much stuff as well. For me it is a balance of decorative items and practical storage. I live in a small rowhome so space is limited but I still want to display "pretty things". When the pandemic hit I started bulk buying (like many people) and now realize I like certain things in bulk as it does save money. But again goes back to storage. Also, those ice buckets would be great for individually wrapped snacks. No need to label them since you can see what it is.

Great video! I have three main "fear" subcategories for decluttering - what will I find and feel guilty having wasted money on; I might need that thing again in the future; people might get mad at me if they knew what I wanted to declutter.
@kateburk21683 жыл бұрын
The way I see it, if it's not missed then it's not important. I tend to bag/box stuff up & hide it away. After a few wks without a "Where did my ____ go?" Then I am more likely to dispose of the collection with no guilt. I tend to hold onto stuff too cause often times, when I want to utilize something, it's like hunting for hens teeth. Case in point, wanted a timer where the dial turns & I can hear the tick tick. Well, got one but it doesn't work. (Returning tomorrow) threw/ donated last one away as thot I no longer had use for one. Surprise!😖
@fzzypurpleturtle3 жыл бұрын
So my number one rule for decluttering is is it serving you? And if it is causing you guilt or shame it is not serving you. And you can appreciate what it meant when you bought it or received it, and let it go. We are on a journey

How much can you live without? I'm sorry about your situation. I still have a lot of stuff, but I'm discovering that by purging, it's easier to manage what I have. If you have the bathroom, kitchen, and laundry done, you're doing great. On kitchen stuff, the less things there are, the smaller the mess potential. You rock woman! I am laying in bed watching videos, procrastinating so many projects- I started rearranging my small apartment months ago and got discouraged trying to move big stuff from one room to another- basically switching the 2 rooms. Well ok- it made me realize I liked the way things functioned better before! Now I have to switch it all back. Lol. Meantime I started working on the minuscule kitchen and decided all the caulk had to be redone. (Maintenance did it twice and both times it cracked in 2 weeks!) It takes me so long to do anything- things I used to do in a day or two now takes at least a couple of weeks (or months!) Partly because I’m older- 73- partly because I’m just mentally and emotionally exhausted! Back to caulking- I’m on my third try to get it right! Hence- procrastination. Jeeze, the point of this “essay was to say that watching this video made me want to get moving- I got up and made the bed… And then got back on it to write this! Lol. Thanks for your channel- a couple of your videos during the day brings sunshine and hope.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! At first I started watching your videos out of curiosity. Then I came back for the affirmations. Then I finally started putting your tips into action! My first task involved cleaning out the medication cabinet. I pulled every item out, something that hadn't been done since we moved here 16 years ago! I took two grocery bags full to the drug take back box at my local police department. Then I organized with bins from Dollar Tree; his, mine, cold/allergy, pain, a joint container for shared things like vitamins. Then I scrubbed, put down shelf paper and put the bins in. Looks fab! And you're right, once that was done I wanted to do more!! I've tackled the kitchen one cabinet at a time and am now working on the bathrooms. Then the closets. I do all of this while my hubby is at work (he works 48 hour shifts) and he's so surprised when he gets home. Oh! I also cleaned the front porch really well and have decorated it for the 4th of July. I really appreciate you putting yourself out there to inspired other.

Your story about the RV lady and how you said it wasn't about having someone there to help, it was more to have someone motivate you. Well thanks. you have been my motivation. You clean and organize and i do my dishes or tidy my pantry at the exact same time. Keep up with the videos

You are living in my dream kitchen! The white cabinets, organized and decluttered. Love your cabinet under sink with that lazy susan. The giant island, the undermount sink. It's all so decluttered and open. Love all your organization hacks!!! I've watched your boys grow up on your channel. They are so adorable and kind. Clearly comes from great parenting. Keep up your videos we all love you👍👍

Your videos have changed my life. I’m a “lazy perfectionist” to be brutally honest. I have ADHD so if I get my space cluttered easily and it stresses me out constantly to live in a cluttered house. You’ve inspired me to give myself grace when I don’t get it finished by the end of “Day One”. Thank you for what you do!!!

Grateful for your motivational push today! I just love those clear 🧊 buckets, sometimes for me just updating a few containers gets me going in the right direction. I donate the old ones, so it's a win win for everyone.

Thank you I can't tell you enough how much your videos help me. I have been needing some xtra motivation and you delivered. I also want to say I get choked up everytime you say, "If no one has told you today you are enough." I need that. I need to believe it. As a mom I think we forget that really are enough. I would like to tell you Katherine you are enough! Just in case some one hasn't told you lately.

Step 1. Get started.. As you said, when you start to declutter and organise an area, it make you want to keep it cleaned and tidy.. and it feels easier to do this now and is a joy to do. I have been very lazy and unmotivated until a few weeks ago, when I decided to clean up our bedroom including the draws and the closets. At first it seemed daunting, then I took a big breathe and tackled my closets. 8 bags for charity later and I was on a roll, Next came our drawers. Woo Hoo, more bags for charity and to throw away… on to the en-suite cabinets, boom 💥 clean and decluttered…so on and so on. I did the Living room, Kitchen.. and I am halfway through my Office/Library/Craft room. Once this is done, it is all done! Now I feel excited to keep it clean, tidy and decluttered. Thanks for the encouragement, I feel as if a weight has been lifted off my back and feel so motivated to keep going! 🥰
