As an 80 year old man, with grandchildren close to your age, your enthusiasm gives me so much joy that I get to lose the details of the chess and simply watch the vivacity in your face. May it long continue in chess and in other areas of your life.

I started playing classical chess in September. So far, whenever I've underestimated an opponent based on their age or rating, I've always got my ass thoroughly handed to me. I guess that's part of the beauty of chess.

One of the most humbling experiences I had in life was getting destroyed at chess by a 9 years old girl that seemed distracted the whole game.

@TomVennix Hey. Anna's 3rd move pushed a pawn. For clarity's sake; was "en passant" viable? I'm totally unsure of when (whether it's good or bad is another issue).
@CharlesStearman
@CharlesStearman 5 ай бұрын
@@R.Akerman-oz1tf A pawn can only be captured en passant immediately after moving two squares from its starting position. So in the position you are referring to, if black replied with c5 then white's d pawn could capture it en passant on c6.

8:45 this is called the Sunken Cost Fallacy, and it's a very common error in judgement made by everyone. To help get around it, when you've already spend so much time on something and are realizing toward the end that it isn't going to work, instead of forcing it try to recognize the "pros" of the time you spent. You didn't waste that time, you used it calculating a variation and determining that it wasn't the right path. Wish it had gone faster, but it didn't. Time to calculate the next variation. Chess is brutal.

Listening to agadmator is like listening to a traditional college professor; concise and informative with a few jokes. Listening to GothamChess is like listening to your drunk bro ramble on about chess. Chaotic and and entertaining. Listening to you, Anna Cramling is just so damn calming. Your voice is so gentle and sweet that you could probably talk about anything and I'd listen just to hear your soft voice lol. The best part about watching your videos is listening to you talk so passionately about the game that we both love, even though I'm sure you're tired as hell as you just spent hours utterly focused and unbelievably stressed. Keep it up! I hope to see you rise to be a GM one day :D

Not surprised young Cramling is worn out after this tense, complex struggle. There was a National Open in Charleston SC some years ago in which yours truly was a C player going against an A (roughly 1500 vs 1900 ELO). Being the seventh and last game in a four-day Independence Day weekend both of us were fairly exhausted after six games in three days. My opponent had White. Essaying a Pirc and suicidally castling Kngside into a full-bore 150 Attack Black's King wound up dodging checks after White's pawn storm opened up his position like a can opener. Desperately seeking refuge on the Queenside he narrowly frustrated White's furious efforts to corral him, and during a couple momentary lulls Black managed to infiltrate a Queen and Knight into White's Q-side King position. White was so intent on his own King hunt he failed to see it and wound up resigning at the first check of a smothered mate combo. Whew! Felt like a limp yet immensely relieved dishrag afterwards. Congrats and good luck to aspiring Master Cramling. Her return to Classical chess should help fill a niche that's become lamentably neglected of late. Also regards to her Mom and Dad. Cheers and Happy New Year!

Exciting game!!!! I was also completely drawn to the knight sacrifice and thought this must be working, such a clutch move, but the follow ups and winning variation after suboptimal moves of your opponent are very hard to spot and it takes a lot of bravery going into these variations sharp like a knifes edge. King f4 is almost impossible to play, it looks so unnatural and scary.

Great effort, as always Anna! 😃 I think the biggest error was the approach you had at the start to the opponent...as you said, you had about 2 or 3 chances to win, which you never miss (or at least if you miss one, you rarely don't miss the other). Attack every game as if they're the same rank as you, and you'll be your normal sharp best!
