There are already a few history teachers that are doing this.. A big reason for it is because Sabaton is historically accurate with their storytelling, and isn't washed down or whitewatered by what an agenda wants their students to hear.

Irrelevant fun fact: They did not go back to shooting each other the next day; I understand that the authorities had to move these men because they REFUSED to fight each other. I guess when you say "Hello, I'm Willhem" and another says "Hello, I'm Robert" and they show each other snapshots of their families, it's rather hard to start tearing each other apart again.

Just to add to the history of the Christmas Truce of 1914. Many of the units on both sides had to be moved to other areas of the battlefield as when combat restarted they either refused to fire on the other side or would fire over the heads of the other side so not to actually have to shoot at people who now had a face and name and and even possibly were a friend made during that truce.

A lot of people call it power metal but I can't say I agree, when I think power metal I think of much more fancy instrumentals. Sabaton always make sure the details are subordinate to the sum. I would say it's simply old school heavy metal. Sabaton and Iron Maiden are of the same stock. But if you want a good start on your Sabaton journey, which you already have gotten, I think a good starter pack of Sabaton is the way to go. :) So I will suggest 2 more songs/performances/videos to showcase their things. After that, you are good to go in any direction you want. It's not necessarily their best songs, but they are great to quickly get to know them. And it's definately worth getting to know them. :) 1. No bullets fly, the animated story video. kzbin.info/www/bejne/mqTPgGBpfMyYpLs Since pretty much all their songs have a historic background, the animated story videos are great to get the context, and No bullets fly is something extra for sure. It's about an act of the greatest humanity in pretty much the worst possible time for humanity. 2. En livstid i krig, Live from the Great tour in Gothenburg. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jXPWZHpnhdusnK8 It's in Swedish so turn on the captions and be prepared to be amazed. There will be smiles from ear to ear mixed with tears and you get to experience what might be the greatest live performance ever. It's the story about a Swedish soldier going into war, the 30 years war that ravaged Europe during the 17:th century. And if you want to delve deeper into their songs, their other channel, Sabaton history, kzbin.info/door/aG4CBbZih6nLzD08bTBGfw ,where they go into detail about the story behind each of their songs, is a great source of some light history combined with heavy metal. :) Every song they have made have a corresponding video of about 15 minutes where a historian and great storyteller speaks about the history and at the end, he and the band talks a bit about the song itself. It's really great entertainment.

Musically Sabaton is definitely Power Metal. People who say they are not might be thinking of some other contemporary versions of Power Metal but since Power Metal is such a broad genre it's easy to see how some people can be confused if they have limited experience listening to all the ranges of Power Metal from throughout the years. That doesn't mean that every song is full on power metal but that is still the core of their riffs and sound.

Just to add to what you read, in one instance, the German commander was forced to retreat because his men refused to fight the men on the Allies' side they had made friends with. This song is one of the most powerful I've ever heard. And just to give you some other tracks, check out these tracks by Sabaton: 1) No Bullets Fly, partnered with YarnHub Animations: This tells the story of a German BF-109 pilot who saved an American B-17 and her bomber crew during Christmas, 1944. 2) Night Witches, partnered with YarnHub Animations: This tells the story of an all-women Soviet Air Force bomber regiment, the 588th, during World War II. 3) Defense of Moscow: This tells of the Soviet defense of Moscow in 1941, during World War II. 4) Fields of Verdun: This tells of the Siege of Verdun, in France, during World War I. This battle is still, to this day, the longest continuous battle in human history, lasting 303 days, and it resulted in over 700,000 casualties.

They have 2 animated videos that tell the history that the songs in the video are about. No bullets fly, and night witches. Check them out, and keep tissues nearby, someone is always cutting onions when those videos play. Just like any Monty python fan will tell you, nobody expects the Spanish inquisition, sabaton fans will randomly mid story shout "and then the winged hussars arrive!" Enjoy the sabaton catalog journey, they have some great songs and they sneak in learning. If you enjoy learning little half hourish history lessons, the band has a second channel called sabaton history. They team up with a historian to expand on the background history and how the band members learned of the story before writing the song. Usually 1 song explained per episode, but some songs got 2 parts.

Great Reaction, for more on this topic there is a decent movie (2005) "Joyeux Noel" (Merry Christmas) shows the German, French & British (well a Scottish unit) , sadly when word of these events got out many units were punished and relocated to other sections of the line were the fighting was more savage. and then they made sure on holidays they would launch attacks and such. but the war took a turn and got more deadly esp once GAS started to be used in 1915 some soldier tried to repeat the event of 1914 but were shot . You can't go wrong with any Sabaton song really , BUT you really should checkout "Sabaton History Channel " on youtube

I consider them "Swedish Military History Metal" as opposed to Swedish Death Metal. That's usually gets a chuckle out of people. Sabaton is great. Hannes, the drummer (you know him because people keep yelling "Hannes!" in the video), is married to Floor Jansen of Nightwish, whose vocals you hear at the end. Please do more Sabaton. May I suggest "Into the Fire"? The studio version is good but there's also a really awesome live version which may be the highest-energy performance of any song ever.
