David Pecker’s testimony in Trump's trial highlights how his lies and misinformation dominated his 2016 campaign. And Marco Rubio's pathetic attempt to become Trump's veep has led him to vote against funding for Ukraine, but the gang is pretty sure conservative "normies" will eat the selection up.
Plus, the potential for RFK Jr. to hurt Trump, rather than Biden, the reason why foreign aid finally got done, and protests at Columbia University.

We haven’t seen how bad a Trump second term could be; no one to stop his plans and his retribution, no respect for the Constitution and the rule of law. Everyday, there is more information from his first administration about his personal grudges: not wanting to provide FEMA support to blue states, wanting to reroute funds intended for the VA to building the wall. That will be the tip of the iceberg

On my campus, Jewish and Muslim students protested together peacefully by blocking the main doors to the Humanities building and handing out flyers and talking to anyone who would listen about their grievances. Their grievances are that our University is investing in Israeli companies linked to the violence in Gaza. As students who pay the administration's salaries, they have every right to tell the admin that they reject what they're spending students' money on AND to make the facts known to the rest of the student body. Lovely people. Doing the right thing. When I was at uni in the 1980s, we did the same thing to protest our university's investment in South Africa during apartheid. We got the administration to divest. Students aren't some random people on the street. Their tuition fees pay the university. Where the university spends its money IS the students' concern. And when they're not listened to in board meetings (because there are no students on the board), they must protest outside the buildings. When they blocked my way into the Humanities building, they also kindly showed me to the side door I could use. Lovely kids. I hope they achieve their ends.

Thank you. I am so glad to see someone speak to this vital point. Students I read about are doing everything possible to show that Jewish and Muslim students and those of other faiths are together opposed to Netanyahu's gleeful murderous antics in Gaza. Whatever one's tance on Palestine/Israel, the demonization and caricaturing of these students is so depressing- they are idealists and they are vulnerable. Routine fact-checking and healthy scepticism have vanished from the media. The adamant conflation of peaceful protestors with anti-semitism, of a criticism of Israel with Anti-semitism, etc is presented as a premise - that doesn't need any proving. Campus peaceful protestors are out there because they have read history and have questioned the servile embrace of any and all excesses in Israel by our politicians. I made the exact same connection to the Divest Now movement re South Africa- which arose at a time when people thought the then generation of students was all about self-interest, greed and Wall Street aspirations. The divest now movement- opposed by Reagan and those on the right- put the lie to that. I can't speak to the anti-Vietnam protests from personal experience but there again young idealists took principled stances against murderous regimes and imperlialism. In all these instances the university and the political leadership were on the wrong side of history. It worries me to see the gleeful mockery and spite being directed at these students all over the media, and, yes, by some hosts on the Bulwark as well. These kids are vulnerable. The National Guard, Abbot's police thugs, and other the repressive guard in general has been turned on them. Their academic standing is suspended, they are being expelled, they are not being allowed to graduate- for daring to speak against the powerful interests on the other side. The scale and speed of the repression stunned me. I find it disturbingly fascistic in itself.

This is why I stopped my subscription of the Bulwark. I like these guys, but they seem to have a blind spot when it comes to Israel, conflating anti Zionism with anti Semitism and being pro Palestinian with being pro Hamas. And what's with the idea that college kids should just focus on their studies and not protest, but they should come out and vote for Biden?

Two thoughts: 1) I am reminded of a speech that Hitler gave early on having overtaken the entire German government. He mocked all of his opposition. They called him a clown and laughed at their ideas. He asked, Who was laughing now? Everyday since 2016, I have thought about that speech and how many of Hitler's adversaries ended up dead, co-opted or at the Eastern Front. 2) I think it is still very clear, anyone still part of the Republican Party and voting for it are now MAGA. I still cant get over, how many of the Republicans, who held their noses for Trump, or MAGA voters, who are pro choice and think, that abortion is a deal breaker, are looking to RFK Jr. rather than Biden. If abortion is their single issue, then instead of the guy, Biden, who wants to make Roe the law of the land, they want to vote for the guy, RFK Jr., who is for a total abortion ban??? But I guess, it explains, why they were Trump voters in the first place.

If kids on college campuses aren't protesting, then there's something wrong with the education system. Come on, guys! If there were no protests on college campuses, you'd be complaining that Gen Z are complacent, apathetic, or addicted to their phones! Protest is a healthy thing. And if they are being educated properly, their long-held views are being challenged every day. Protest is what we should expect on college campuses. The anti-semetic slurs are loud but very much in the minority. And I do wonder if the media is calling "Free Gaza" or "Depose Netanyahu" as "anti-semetic". I have heard people claim that anything said against Israel is "anti-semetic". That for sure is not the case. You can be pro-Israel and anti- the current regime. You can even be pro-Jews and anti-Israel. Many people are.

@margaretmcnamee6411 I agree. Nothing good can result from calling in the National Guard and dredging up Kent State optics. I am concerned, however, that Columbia University's president allowed an encampment to be erected on campus. Students should have been dispersed at the end of each day and allowed to commence protests the following day. There should also have been designated areas to keep the ugly chanters of "From the River to the Sea" segregated from Jewish students who obviously felt threatened by this sentiment. I think the president of Columbia University will and should be fired for her dereliction of duty in managing these protests. I also wish the colleges and universities would encourage a better dialogue between Jewish and Muslim students to foster a better understanding of the issues which may lead to more tolerance and peace.

You’re not alone. Students are extremely well informed these days, they know a crime when they see it (on social media in this case). The COO of Columbia University calling in the NYPD is some seriously fascist sh*# - even the NYPD Chief of Police said the students they arrested were calm, cooperative and not combative. The students should never have been arrested. Nor should the University have the power to expel and evict them from their dormitories with a mere 15-minutes’ notice, and for what crime? What happened to their Constitutional Rights? The USA has become a fascist state, it’s outrageous!

JvL, I had a cough for a month. I was swigging couph suppressant (ignoring bottle dosage warnings) especially at night because I couldn't sleep. One morning, I woke up with my tongue so swollen it filled my whole mouth. Scariest shit ever. I ended up in the hospital for surgery for a collapsed lung from pneumonia. They told me I could never take that couph suppressant again. Please be careful. It catches up to you in horrible ways.❤
