I have an inherited amethyst necklace that my.grandfather made for my mother. Unfortunately she wore it so much in direct sunlight that it is only half the shade it was compared to when he cut it i wished it was though because it such a beautiful royal purple color.😭

At the tuscon club show, they presented evidence that the citrine in ametrine is not actually citrine and instead a yellow quartz colored by chromium. Very interesting discovery!

I just love those cathedral's as you called them. The big giant geodes with 2-3 inch long crystals inside of them. There is a rock and gem shop nearby that I like to go and visit. They have some of those cathedrals that are just beautiful. Some of them are about a foot across and 2 ft tall. I would really love to have one sitting in my living room but I can't afford to spend well over $1,000 for a geode.

I learned that crystal structures, in the example I learned was with ice, have a bias towards including the structural molecules, i.e. H2O, into the growing crystal, and biasing against including impurities. This is why ice cubes will get cloudy in the areas that freeze the last (often in the centre) because there is nowhere else the impurities will go. Also, these impurities are places of instability within the structure so when undergoing a phase change. I've let frozen orange juice slowly thaw, and the last 'ice' to melt is the clearest. The same method was used to concentrate apple juice into applejack. The coloured tips in the same way of thinking would be due to the fact that there was a finite amount of solution for the crystal to form, and this solution became more concentrated with impurities as the crystal growth removed Silicon and Oxygen, while leaving the impurities behind. After the crystal grew replacing the original solution, the solution remaining was so concentrated with impurities that the crystal had to take them in.

Heck yeah, quartz! My favorite mineral. I've got a geology question. So I've been collecting quartz crystals from the Paloma Valley Ring Complex that's behind/part of my neighborhood. I've found a few beautiful gem-quality smokies and near perfectly clear DTs on one of the outer/older K-spar pegmatites. And a fair amount of clear keyed crystals with microcline phantoms, and epidote inclusions/attachments from another spot that's closer to what I think was the caldera. There is a lot of gabbro of medium-large grain size throughout the area. With all that said, is there any chance of finding some amethyst? I've found only 1 or 2 crystals with zones of citrine, with the rest being clear. I've often seen iron with hematite in the fissures of milky pieces though. I know there might not be a definitive answer for this one, but I thought I'd ask someone who's more knowledgeable.

Some beautiful specimens you have there👌 My favourite amethyst in my collection would have to be a remarkably dark chevron amethyst from Broken Hill, NSW When I decided to polish it I discovered some wonderful trapiche like zoning visible from the point when strongly lit, as well as some very unexpected chatoyancy along the length of the crystal beneath some of the prism faces... Unfortunately as it were, the chatoyant areas on the crystal seem to be quite shallow and only present within the outermost growth layers of the crystal. Having said that, it still has a rather well defined cat's eye. After many years of searching I've not since come across another cat's eye amethyst or even so much as a mention of them existing. In a way, I consider myself quite lucky to have decided to polish it in the fashion that I did, as very few people would ever round off the prism faces as I chose to. I was going through a phase of what I like to call "minimalist cutting" essentially I was just doing the least amount of cutting possible to achieve a rounded polished stone. I've since been tossing up whether or not to cut the piece further as it's quite an odd shape currently and there's no easy way to display the stone. It's too dark to see the zoning without a strong light. However, if I slice the stone perpendicular to the x-axis to display the zoning, I'll ruin the beautiful cat's eye down the length of the stone. Either way, I don't get many opportunities to show off the stones interesting qualities to those who could appreciate it's uniqueness, so, I thought I'd mention it here whilst we're on the topic 🙂

Loveeeeeeee amethyst . The enhydros are my favorite. This is not related but I would love to see a video about Arfvedsonite vs Astrophyllite ( polished form especially I see a lot of mislabeling online when it comes to retail ) and or Arfvedsonite vs black tourmaline in its natural form . I haven't seen Arfvedsonite specimen in person but in pictures it looks similar. I learn so much from this channel . I truly appreciate the gemstones team ! Thank you !!!

Beautiful! I love Amethyst, especially the geodes. What is the difference between Amethyst and Blue Sapphire? (I'm a long-time admirer of beautiful stones, but I am a baby in the knowledge department LOL). I have loved Garnets all my life because my grandmother gave me a necklace with one in it when I was a small child, it was her birthstone. Today I read about Painite for the first time, and now I'm wondering about the difference between Painite and Garnet too. Looking forward to more videos, thanks!

Amethyst is made up of silicon and oxygen while blue sapphire is made of aluminum and oxygen. Both are colored by iron impurities, but with amethyst irradiation is involved in the coloring process while, with blue sapphire, iron is involved in a charge transfer with titanium.

Honestly, I've learned so much from watching some of your videos so far, but there could be endless questions. I'm sure you all have great fun with all there is to learn and know about these wonderful specimens. I enjoy drawing and painting and someday I'd love to do a series of artwork with gemstones, but I want to know more about what I would be painting, so I've got some research to do.

I'd like to know more about anethyst-like gems. I know the FTC said no to the term green amethyst, and instead had to be called prasiolite. But there is also black amethyst and and the fairly newly discover pink amethyst from Argentina. And maybe even the differences between amethyst, citrine, and smoky quartz. And even Auralite-23 and Super 7. Or if Azeztulite is a real thing recognized by geologists

According to the research I’ve done, Azeztulite is a made up name for common quartz that some people think is super metaphysically powerful. Basically it’s just a scam people use to upsell plain normal quartz, so it’s definitely not recognized by anyone who’s actually educated in the industry
