The 450 series soundbars from Samsung are a definite step up from TV speakers. I have their 2015 model HW-J355 soundbar and subwoofer which is basically the same principle, 2.1 and no HDMI connection. It has a wired subwoofer which I like. It's a great starter set and I've gotten seven years of enjoyment out of mine. Looking to move up soon now however, and with something with rear speakers preferably, as well as a centre channel for sure.

I purchased the complete setup and it's amazing. FYI: It you plan on using your system with ARC. This doesn't support it. It only supports optical(cable included), USB and 3mm audio.

In order for your TV to control the soundbar volume from your TV remote. You must plug it into the HDMI ARC port on your TV. Then enable the CEC settings in the TV. (TV brand and Soundbar brand doesn't matter.) enable all CEC settings using your TV remote that came with your TV. For best sound quality go into your TV audios settings and play with those settings to figure out which sounds good for you. And enjoy some cool movies.

My Samsung televisión does not have an optical out. I would hate to return the sound bar it as it only cost me $109.00. Other than buying a newer model television, is there any other solution?

You won’t get surround sound with this no. Surround sound is a complete set up with many speakers. Vocals sound good in my opinion though.

the power supply plug ends rotate to make the plug any direction you want......Hello! I do not know it the instruction manual would have helped you as you had one I did not but figured this out myself by the little hash marks on the backside of the plug.

Yes anything with the connections it supports will work. Volume control via optical audio is Samsung only I believe

There is a plastic film over the back of the subwoofer, do I keep it on for protection? Or can I remove it?

Remove it! If you keep it on their could be issues with air reaching the sub, which could cause issues.

In order to control the Soundbar volume with the TV's remote control, you have to use an HDMI cable:. Connect one end to the soundbar's HDMI ARC and the other end to the TV's HDMI ARC In. If a soundbar comes with 2 HDMI connections, you have to DEFINITELY use the one labeled HDMI ARC (sometimes also labeled HDMI ARC OUT).

You don't really need a samsung TV for this. LG has a universal remote control function where in you can control 3rd party devices including this soundbar if you have the magic remote evem with optucal connection. If you will also use an HDMI CEC, any TV that has CEC should be able to control the volume of this soundbar.

I think you can still have LG as your option as they have universal remote function if you have their magic remote wherein you can set the brand/manufacturer of your soundbar from the TV and be able to use the LG remote to control the soundbar without using HDMI. I'm not sure if other brands has this feature on their TV but LG and Samsung has that feature. I'm using a Samsung soundbar wuth my LG smart TV and it works flawlessly. LG and Samsung TVs has an option to control any soundbar from many popular manufacturers such as: Sony , LG, Samsung, JBL, Harman, Philips, Panasonic, JVC , Pioneer and a lot more

I be honest, this soundbar is good for movies that have bluray and chomecast, however at loud volumes the vocals and higher pitch starts to crackle a bit, and it doesnt sound that good, the bass is good but i think they should improve on that a bit, it also depends on how big your room is, also the surround sound is really good, but again, you not going to hear it fully well, and i suppose thats becuase you don't have tweeters or bigger speakers

Hey Edwin! Not sure exactly what TV you have, I think it only can work wirelessly if your TV is Samsung, but I’m not 100% sure! But I would recommend using the optical cord for best sound quality anyway! :)

Finally a video about R450 in English. :) My question is: Do you think this soundbar will sound better than my existing (10 year old) Philips Cinema One (CTS4000)? Specs of the CTS4000 are: 5.1 Audio (I'm only getting 2.1 thru 3.5mm jack) 50W RMS On paper it looks like the R450 is better but i'm not sure if the upgrade would be noticeable. Any suggestions?

Thanks for the comment! I personally can’t speak to if it would be better than your current set up as I’m no expert in sound set ups, all I can say is I LOVE this soundbar. I would recommend buying it and trying it out! BestBuy has a 14-day return policy, so if it’s not worth the upgrade, you can just return it!

The soundbar is a 2.1 audio device, but 5.1 would be better if you had a capable receiver and speakers to provide the audio quality. If you want, there is a demo in stores like Walmart, target, best buy to not only check out this soundbar but they have others as well. Try getting a 5.1 sound, and the soundbar would be even better, but the soundbar he reviews is a very good upgrade for the buck!

Great question. And honestly not at all! There is a few different EQ modes, and one of them is just called “Smart” which I don’t know how it works, but always does a great job at changing the EQ to match the content I’m watching.

What ticks me off is my Samsung 55" 6290 FXZA did NOT include a $.02 cent audio out jack to connect the TV to a home stereo. You can buy a battery powered AM/FM portable radio at the Dollar Store with a audio out speaker / headphone jack and connect to your home stereo. But a 55" UHD 4K TV? NO! Obviously scam to upsell customers a $150 sound bar. Bastards! As a result, they completely destroyed any future Good Will / customer loyalty with me. This sneaky trick is right up there with Bait & Switch schemes. I will NEVER buy a Samsung again. And yet, I bought a soundbar. A Samsung. Because I wanted 1 integrated remote. BUT, I bought a refurbished soundbar just to cut their profit margin to a minimum. Take that!

*Warning: Boomer story. I'm kinda cracking up at this young guy. I remember moving into in a studio apartment in Playa Del Rey after getting my 1st job out of college. I had a twin bed. A hot plate and mini fridge. No TV. And an old chair with a missing leg. But hey, I had the beach! I bought my 1st TV after a few months. A huge 17" RCA, on sale for $379. Then a stereo.
