They have a Github repository for some of their software: github.com/ngraveio But as with most hardware wallets the secure element chip is closed source. The Ngrave does support passphrases: support.ngrave.io/hc/en-us/articles/5082449836317-Roadmap-FAQ#:~:text=Yes%2C%20but%20only%20passphrases%20that,not%20see%20all%20your%20balances. I just review wallets, I don't make recommendations. I just give you all the facts, and you make your own choices. There have been quite a few high profile KZbin channels that made recommendations that ended up in trouble. When you make recommendations, the temptation is too great to recommend companies that do favors for you or companies that you've invested in. I stay away from recommendations. Hi Rex. Thanks for ngrave tutorial, was excellent. Just got 2 questions, If I use the Graphene ngrave secret seed format, can that seed be recovered on another brand of wallet that only uses the 24 word recovery format ? Or would I have to initially set up the ngrave wallet with the ordinary 24 word recovery format? And 2nd question , does the ngrave have the 25th word passphrase option ? Cheers Steve.

Ive just received mine this morning. on taking it out of the box I immediately noticed that the on off button seems to have a slight rattle to it if the device is gently shaken or the button lightly tapped. I'm wondering if this is a production issue with mine or if the one that you have does the same ? ...Just feels a little loose and not quite the build quality I was expecting from such a high end device. If others are the same then I won't worry about it.

The liquid app and the Ngrave hardware device are just 2 halves of the same wallet. When you transfer crypto into the liquid app your transferring it into the wallet. Besides, the hardware device doesn’t show balances anyway. It only holds the private keys. Now in order to transfer new cryptocurrencies into the liquid app, you will have to enable a cryptocurrency on the hardware device first. For example polkadot. And then the two will sync up. But once you have a crypto enabled, you can move crypto into the liquid app and rest assured, it’s being protected by the hardware device because the hardware device holds the private keys. The Ngrave hardware device only comes to play when you’re moving. crypto out not when you’re moving crypto in.

I’m very interested. But does one have to use the fingerprint option? I work with my hands in kinda rough ways. What if I loose a finger? The steel plate I can store at the bank in a safe.

You don't have to enable the fingerprint option. You can simply enter your pin each time. And even if you do enable the fingerprint option and you lose a finger, you can always default back to the pin.

I don't think you can manage multiple devices within the app. However, in the settings of the app, at the bottom, there is an "Unsync wallet" option. Once you have a device set up, you can sync and un-sync your device at will. You can do this with multiple device to mange your various wallets and devices.

Whenever I receive BTC into the Nano X, the Ledger generates a different address. Would I be able to send all BTCs to the NGRAVE in one transaction? Thanks so much CryptoDad.

Yes of course! All addresses are generated from one public masterkey and belong to your wallet. You Ledger and most other hardware and software wallets generate new addresses for every transaction for privacy reasons. But you can also reuse these addresses as often you want because they belong all to your wallet The BTC on your different public addresses are so called Unspent Transactions Outputs ( UTXO). If you send from your wallet, your device will combine all these UTXOs to one single transaction. The receiving wallet gets a single UTXO containing the sum of BTC from your different UTXOs from your wallet.

Gemini requires a small deposit from my cold wallet to ensure I am the owner in my coubtry jurisdiction. Does Ngrave have the same address for depositing and sending? I cant use ledger or trezor since they keep changing address. Thanks

Even though your wallet might create a separate address for each transaction. You can continue to use previous addresses. They will always go into the same wallet. And in answer to your question, a bitcoin wallet always generates a new address when you use the "receive" command. Unless there have been no transactions since the last time you did a receive. In that case it will present the same address. Once there has been a transaction from a from a previous wallet address, a bitcoin wallet will always generate a new receiving address. This is built into the Bitcoin protocol and works across all different hardware wallets. Ethereum wallets always use the same address. Why Does My Bitcoin Wallet Address Keep Changing? Rex, would you do a video on troubleshooting firmware updates? Had the device for a yr, have not used it because I couldn't update the firmware.

I went through the entire firmware update process in the video: ⚙️13:40 - Updating the Firmware🔄 I did have a connection issue and had to use my laptop. USB connection issues can be tricky but it's basically not related to the wallet itself. You simply have to troubleshoot by disconnecting devices, trying different USB ports, maybe trying a different cable. Not sure what part of the process you're having issues with, but you might want to check my step by step process and try and figure out where you're going wrong. It's also possible that you might be running antivirus or anti-malware that's preventing the firmware software from running on your computer. So you might try disabling those before you re-attempt this process.

I've just bought the Keystone and find it's too small and the printing is far too small for me so it's a wasted purchase. This seems to have a larger screen. If you use the NGRAVE key how would you transfer your cryptos to another wallet if there was no longer an NGRAVE wallet or company?

So the air gap only happens when the initial setup occurs. You need a phone with the app to do the rest.

Even then, it's still air gapped. Any of the "talking" that is occurring between the "app" on your phone and the wallet on the Ngrave is done solely air-gapped thru pictures and QR codes. The app on the phone has no physical access to the funds on the Ngrave,. its more of a window to see and talk to thru the gap. Very well thought out product.

You can always just use the pin rather than the fingerprint. Basically, the fingerprint id makes it more convenient than having to enter your pin every time you want to confirm a transaction. As far as that security issue you brought up, you're generally using the device in the privacy of your own home. No one can validate a transaction using your fingerprint information remotely. It would have to be done in person. So the solution here is to just make sure you keep your device secure.

Does the Liquid app show the different formats of Bitcoin such as Legacy and Segwit?

Far as I can tell, it looks like the Engrave device and the liquid app both default to a Native Segwit Bitcoin address (Which is probably the best and most versatile anyway and is the default for most modern Bitcoin wallets). I tried a couple of times, but could not figure out how to add alternate style addresses like legacy or Segwit (regular).
