Talon is very similar to Starfleet battles it uses pulses and you have to allocate power to the different systems accept in Talon you don't have to decide where the power is going to at the beginning of any round, you receive power on certain pulses and you choose where to allocate it when you receive it, Talon all the information is on the ship tokens so it is easy to see by all players and makes the game feel like there is less bookkeeping. I cannot wait to see someone do a play thru video of Talon 1000, the AI seems pretty straight forward but there are a few quirky rules I would like to see how they are played by other people to verify I am playing the AI correctly. Thanks for the great video, great overview.

Thanks for the review, Alexander. This will be my next game to buy. It reminds me of Starfleet Battles. That was a favorite of mine back in the day :) Having a solo rule set is also a bonus, given that is my only gameplay option these days. Appreciate the work that you an Grant do for the boardgaming community! Russ

so excited about this game, unfortunately GMT is out of stock on the base game, and shipping it from the US via ebay to my country is $80+; ouch. Really tragic, thought it would be a good way to introduce friends and family to space games

Is the solo mode of the Talon 1000 only with the gray bot ships or can you play solo with the Talon ships and the main game? I'd hate purchase Talon and the expansion and it only solos with a small portion of the total game.

There are only three classes of AI ships, and those are the only ones that can be used with the included AI system. There's no hidden information so nothing wrong with playing both sides solo in normal play. But for the actual solitaire, those three ships are it. There's almost a hundred scenarios though printed in the playbook that use various forces compositions, so there's at least something to consider.
