I've owned 8 of them for a few years, have put a lot of catfish on the boat including 2 over 90 lbs. zero issues and have spoke to spyron a few times, he's a good guy.

i have a couple of ancient mariner reels.... had an issue with one, but the owner (Spyron) took care of the problem. He is a GREAT guy!!! Responds to texts immediately. He also answers your phone calls. Excellent customer service.

Dieter has stated that he has never actually purchased one (red flag) I emailed Dieter sharing my experience with my new reel and customer service. But I won't repeat what he said in the personal email. However, what he said pretty well says it all. That being said, I felt fortunate that a fishing buddy of mine gave me his reel, because now I have a one for parts.

Penn 209 is my Choice of catfish reels, with the right rod and line you can cast them a ling ways,

I've used the 6000's for 4 yrs, thousands of pounds of Catfish caught on them. Zero issues. I have about 12 of them.

Do you see yourself converting to baitcasters exclusively? I'm new to them also.

I pretty much have. I still have my sharky III reels on the ole Ugly Stix. But I really have learned to absolutely love fishing with my baitcasters and now that I have 7’6 and 9’6 I’m kinda covered for whatever scenario.

I'll stick with my Diawa Seagate reels. Have a 30H and a sgt 35. Been perfect from day 1. Cheap? No. Dependable? Totally. But a darn sight cheaper than my Penn Spinfisher vi. They will last the rest of my life at 61.

I’ve purchased two more reels for two new rods. Now Madkatz rods. Nope. Those I’m not happy with. Switched to Tangling with Catfish.

Was disappointed in ancient mariner reels. Had lots of casting issues with both and one had no drag. Returned for work was told I spooled the braid wrong they returned them in same none working order I sent them in l. Returned them and bought Lew's xl60s been happy with them.

Alot of it is user caused. Them mariners are sensitive to braid thinner braid. Anything under 65# braid....an the drag idk not so sure there. But I've got 3 of them have for awhile there tanks the 7000s are way to big there like a size 800 to 900 for surf

Does the lead size matter? Noticed you use a 4oz no roll for blue cats.

That just depends on where you’re fishing. Heavy current may require a larger lead. I don’t fish many rivers. So, 4oz is my go to on bait casters. Gives me good distance. Recently, I’ve been joining a buddy on his boat and I’ve noticed anything less than 3oz makes it tough to keep lines tight even if you’re anchored up with power poles.

The 6000 will hold over 300 yards of 60# braid. I don’t run mono.

@@jigginwithjake2796 i believe the owner of the company made false claims that his reels were all hand made here in the US and got into a ugly fight with the tackle reviewer Alan Hawk. He even got the Chinese manufacturer of the reels to drop it from their catalog then claimed the Chinese stole his design. Eventually he apologized and removed claims of "Made in the USA"
