I have the FMJ Chad Ferguson series whisker seeker rod as well but I have the medium heavy spinning reel version. And on it I have the new Okuma A baitfeeder spinning reel in the 6,000 size I find with big flatheads and blues you need at least a 6,000 size spinning reel in order for the reel to not crack or break under the pressure. And trust me I learned that the hard way when my 4,000 size reel cracked on me when I hooked into a big flathead this season. But using a spinning reel for big catfish is definitely possible for sure and it's my preferred way to fish for them too I have nothing against baitcasters I have used them in the past I just prefer spinning reels personally. And I have 50 lb braid to a 40 lb leader for my big flathead catfish rigs and for the size of the flatheads we have around here where I live that seems to be sufficient because they average around 30 lbs to 40 lbs here.

Excellent! Is there an ideal depth of water for the docks to be in? You mentioned 4' of water.
@jigginwithjake27967 күн бұрын
That just depends on water temps and time of year. Fishing each dock thoroughly will tell you more on where the fish are stationed.

Nice blue! I just don't hardly have the strength any more to reel in those monsters.

Good video!! Any rhyme or reason for dock selection? Do they all hold fish or are you looking for key attributes?
@jigginwithjake279612 күн бұрын
Right now I’m fishing main lake docks that are anywhere from 4-8’ of water off the end of the dock. Finding fish pinned to the very back of the docks. As the water cools, these fish move into docks on coves. Sometimes it takes a little bit to dial em in. But once you start finding fish, you can replicate the pattern on other docks.

I was fishing from shore one day at that park across from the power plant. And a pleasure boater came up so close they was almost to where I was cast out to. I was pissed they was all happy and waving. I flipped them off then they looked all confused. I mean you have the whole lake why are you driving into area where I'm fishing.

Ive been practicing that shooting technique in my backyard. I have 7ft Lews wally marshall signature series Cant remember the reel off the top of my head. But im able to hit a 5 gallon bucket from about 10 - 15 yards. Im tryin to keep it less than 3 or 4 feet off the ground simulating going up under a dock. Seems to work pretty well. I wanna get out and give it a shot.
@jigginwithjake279620 күн бұрын
That is great way to dial in this technique. Water level is really low in all our local lakes. So, it makes dock shooting way easier for those just getting started.
