I manage perfectly ok with what is on my F56 2020 Cooper S already. I'd like perhaps the Hardon sound system so I have rear speakers though. I listen via Bluetooth and my Alexa playlists. I also have bought an R52 as my summer car and have had to revert to using CDs which has been quite amusing.

Just installed the same kit a few days ago, even used your discount code. I do have a question, is there a way to turn off the revere camera function as I don’t have one and don’t plan on adding one, its just a bit annoying when the carplay switch to the OEM iDrive when put in reverse and I don’t have a reverse camera. Ben, thanks for the great videos. I have connected my Carplay box to my 2014 Mini Cooper S and everything works fine except for the DAB Radio. When I come out of Carplay and press any of the DAB buttons I get No Signal on the screen. If I press the button for the local DAB station that works as long as it is away from buildings. If I remove the Carplay box then all the DAB staions work fine. I have had the box replaced but no difference. Do you have any idea what could be wrong and does your DAB work OK. Sorry for the long message

I have one of this carplay module called Road Top Wireless and the only issue I'm having is when connecting the VeePeak OBDCheck reader I had to unplug the carplay box to be able to use the OBD reader. Do you know of a work around or how to fix this so I don't have to unplug the carplay box. Thanks

I am going to install the Carplay using your video and I have a couple of questions if you have the time Ben, Do you know if the Carplay works with the iPhone TomTom App. Do you use WiFi from your iPhone all the time or could you connect via the USB connection (Do you have to select which or does it automatically change) Thanks for all the work and videos you have done over the years

Hey! Thank you. To switch you just press the “mode” button under your iDrive display. This allows you to switch to DAB whilst still using CarPlay

Hey! So I have an F55 with the factory screen. I want to upgrade to Apple CarPlay with this decide. My only concern is that when my car needs service that this device won’t show me. For example, the stock has the service feature that measures your oil and tire pressure. When I update to the Apple CarPlay, can I still access the stick feature of my oil mestíceme y and tire pressure?

Hey! Yes you still have access to the stock idrive system. You just hold menu for 5 seconds and it takes you back

I was never able to use them either which pushed me more to get CarPlay.

Hey Ben, quick question for ya. I realise you have the Harmon Kardon sound system in your Mini. May I ask if the Apple CarPlay retrofit impacts the sound quality in anyway when playing music on Spotify etc? Reason am asking is because I have a BMW 530D 2011 with CarPlay retrofitted and the sound quality reduces by quite a bit when I use CarPlay. If I change the source output from AUX to Bluetooth then the sound quality is as original but that causes a sync issue with CarPlay. Have bought a F56 now and will be picking up in a week or two. Want to get CarPlay installed but am not sure if I would have the same problem. Dont wan't to spoil how those HK speakers sound 😉

Hey! I’ve got only positives to say about the sound quality. It does seem a little quieter but sounds are more distinguishable. You’ll have to do a lot of changes with the built in EQ to dial it in properly. You can also boost the audio through the idrive Aux settings.

Hi Ben, I’ve got the 6.5” with nav but no HUD. Could it still be added? I’ve heard something before about them needing the HUD but not sure. Thanks

The CarPlay can be installed without the HUD being preset. It’s the new digital cluster that needs the HUD to be installed or an additional MOST cable to run from the idrive system to the new cluster.

Hey! The audio is far superior than when using the stock iDrive system. It also gives you access to a built in EQ.

I've got an MMI box, but irritates me every time I want to use Bimmercode since I have to partially disconnect. Also sometimes doesn't connect to my phone which I think comes on short journeys. I'm using wireless Android Auto.

Hey! It’s likely that you haven’t transferred the green fibre optic cable over from the old quad lock connector to the new one. Double check this and it should work fine after.

Hey dude, iv just installed in my mini one, as is well, apart from as soon as i start the engine, the screen reverts back to original mini but i can hear the carplay? Pressing menu does nothing....any ideas?

Hi mate, try holding the menu button as opposed to pressing it. Also ensure the toggle switches on the box are set accordingly. Switches 1 and 2 should be on for 6.5” and switches 1, 2 and 3 should be on for 8.8”

It is indeed! It’s only not compatible on the smallest orange LCD display.

Hey! I’ve been made aware that the newer boxes have been designed in a way which doesn’t allow BimmerCode to work. As mine is one of the first I haven’t encountered this issue. If you wanted to use BimmerCode you’d need to remove the current box.

Just tried it on mine, no issues at all with Radio 2 and the others offered. Not too sure what the issue would be.
