This was a really underrated movie, and actually one of Night's better twists. It's just poetic. Samuel L. Jackson crushes the... catharsis he experiences by understanding who he became, he's so *relieved* to understand that he's a monster. He had to find out there was a hero to learn he's a villain. "I'm not a mistake". Right down to realizing he'd had a villain's name from the very start. "They called me Mr. Glass". And maybe it was just 20 year old geek me and my idealism, but I was hooked emotionally by this film because... I mean, who *wouldn't* want to believe that something like this might be true? And this is the story that made it feel more grounded and real and plausible than basically... any ever has.

I was so pissed off that we didn't get sequels for damn near 20 years. I thought this movie was better than THE SIXTH SENSE even though I didn't agree with the cinematography all the time. But I'm very happy I saw this in theaters and I still have the 2-disc DVD set from when it first came out.

@@randywhite3947 SIXTH was shot by Tak Fujimoto, while UNBREAKABLE was not. I felt that the photography wasn't right for what he was trying to do--compositions were too Hitchcockian and the handheld wasn't right (to me). I love the way the movie basically slow rolls it until the end, when you realize that what you just watched was the first 15-30 minutes of any other superhero movie. Instead of a first act superhero origin, where someone becomes Batman or Spider-Man and then spends another 60 or so minutes fighting villains, Unbreakable is all origin story; the hero and villain only truly meet as the credits start to roll. And you really feel for Elijah. Yeah, he's obviously bitter about his lot in life and becomes a bit... cantankerous with the comic shop guy when he gets depressed over David revealing he almost drowned and, thus, 'isn't super,' but on the whole he seems like an okay guy (who really rocks that purple outfit at the end). And how supportive, charming, and proud of her son is Elijah's mother? She didn't just support his love of comics, either, she introduced him to them and, when she meets David in the gallery, seems to kind of dig them herself. So Elijah turning out to be not just a 'bad guy' but a Super Villain really knocks you for a loop. Even if you saw it coming, you're like, "Come on, man; I liked you!" But you get where's he's coming from, as horrible as it is. He was a wounded child, desperately trying to make sense out of the terrible trials he'd been burdened with, through no fault of his own. He's done truly terrible, evil, things in order to try and find his answers, but when he's explaining why he did those things, as David backs away in horror, it's the desperation and relief of that same wounded child that floods his voice. He's sort of Professor X and Lex Luthor, the heroic mentor and sinister mastermind, rolled into one. Professor Ex Luthor. Elijah Price. Mr. Glass.

Dressed like the Grim Reaper, in a hooded cloak with the words, "SECURITY" across his back. So Strong he destroyed walls and killed their captor, yet NEVER threw a punch. The killer was throwing his attacker into the wall with "Brutal" strength, yet not one drop of blood. NO, defensive wounds on his hands from being attacked. Just suffication and possibly damage to the victim's spine from his attacker. He's digging his fingernails into HIS killer's arm, yet not one shred of flesh under his nails. Like a mother freaking "Great Old One" styled Cthulhu monster just walked in and wiped him out. Then what? he just silently disappeared into the night? Usually newspapers don't print mug shots they cant use. But look at that newspaper article! His image looks like a sketch out of a classic 19th century "Hard Crime" detective novel. "I'm telling you officer! He just walked off into the night like the wind." ROFLMAO HOLY CRAP. THAT, is far scarier than ANY comic book hero OR VILAIN!!

I actually have what Samual L. Jackson's character has. However, they misnamed it in the film. They called it osteogenesis imperfectus. This diagnosis comes with very noticeable physical features which he does not have. The true name is osteopetrosis. You cannot tell from looking at us but our bones break quite easily . It is actually due to an over hardening of the bones. Mine was discovered when I was 1 years old. I had been walking just fine and suddenly I just stopped. I cried a lot when ever my mom tried to get me to stand up. Bones like mine are very difficult to read on an x-ray if you are not an expert and so the doctors couldn't tell that I actually had a broken hip / thigh ( I don't remember exactly). Eventually, they found it but it still took a while to figure out just what was wrong with me. The good news is that conditions like this do get a bit better as you get older and with the help of certain medical interventions that can help keep your long bones from breaking. I will always have to be very careful in life and it also affects my vision so I don't see as well as others and have to see an eye specialist but to anyone who wonders what its like to have this, Its hard sometimes but its ok and you can live a very normal life with it. Side note-I love your hair😊

What I appreciate is the gentle build-up of the story, which just pulls you in, laced with genuinely emotional sequences, coupled with a total shocker of a reveal which, despite the hints, just caught me completely off balance and had me gasping. Thanks for this reaction, India, they all seem very genuine and heartfelt, and I always feel relaxed after watching you!

Welcome to the world of M. Night Shyamalan's twist endings! If you haven't seen Mr. Shyamalan first movie "The sixth sense," I would suggest watching it next & Bruce Willis is playing the lead again. Then continue with the follow ups to this movie trilogy: "Spilt" and "Glass."

The writer/director was the guy he pulled out of the line here 17:33. M. Night Shyamalan is one of my favorite directors. He does a lot of twist endings. At the time people were disappointed with this movie as they expected something more like his previous monster hit THE SIXTH SENSE. When people saw SPLIT years later it wasn't know that it would be connected to UNBREAKABLE which was a twist in itself. My other favorite of his is SIGNS.

No one else mentioned this as far as I know, but I can't stop thinking about how his mother must've felt. She tried so hard to create a good world so Elijah could see the hero within himself in spite of his terrible disease. He became a brilliant man, gave her a wonderful life of comfort and ease...only to learn who her son had become. What he'd become. It really must've crushed her to find out what he did, all the lives he destroyed. As sympathetic as Elijah is, I feel so much more for his amazing mother. The Long Kiss Goodnight is also about finding out you're something different than you think. Excellent reaction, especially at the end. Thank you.

: D Yep Yep! Elijah's surprise reveal was something else. Loved how you jumped out of your chair! I think all of 'Shama-lama-dingdong's' (meant as an endearing term) movies are like this...slow burn until the ending. I agree with everyone else; you've seen this one, please watch the other 2! They are well worth it imho. Fun to explore with you, India.

This is such a great film. Split is the second and is AMAZING. You will love it. Glass is the 3rd installment of this series and while it was good I don't think it held up to the other two. I also recommend Signs, The Sixth Sense and The Village.

Solid 10 for me, the pacing is perfect and mature, not all this zappy Superhero stuff you see today, that I do love, don't get me wrong; but sometimes it's nice to spend quality time with perfectly realized characters. The score is stunning, the twist is so exquisitely crafted yet not too pretentious and the Acting is Academy worthy. Makes me weep every time... The second in this saga, Split is a super strong 9 - And the third, Glass is great but a missed opportunity 8. Won't say anything more. Happy Belated New Years sweet Lady!

You HAVE TO watch the other 2 movies in this trilogy!! Split & Glass next. M. Night Shyamalan is such a great storyteller. Even some of his panned movies, I still like them because of the stories. You should totally go down the M. Night Shyamalan rabbit hole. After you watch this trilogy, you should definitely watch The Sixth Sense!!! Also M. Night is always in his movies, so you can always kinda spot him while watching. Kinda like how Stan Lee was in tons of the Marvel movies in little cameos. He started by making a cameo in one of Kevin Smith’s movies (Mallrats) and loved it so much that he wanted to start doing it in Marvel ones.
