Hi Alex - thanks for a really great video - have you come across any products for bonding adsl/4g/another source (say Starlink) where the bonding is carried out by a stand alone hardware ‘appliance’ which doesn’t require a VPN subscription? What I’m looking to do is combine low latency from adsl with throughout from Starlink with 4g for additional redundancy - would be great to hear any suggestions :)

How are you controlling the Raspberry Pi from the laptop (also copy and pasting from laptop to Pi)? Also in the UK (specifically Scotland) the mobile network coverage is shockingly low (like less than 1mbs upload) so should I use the "Speed" option instead of the "Redundancy" option (as I won't be able to stream effectively with those speeds anyway)?

Do you know if it's possible to have both the Pi and another internet source on the same network (both plugged into an ethernet swtich), but have the ATEM look only at the Pi? I currently have a Netgear Nighthawk M2 as part of a network in a portable streaming kit and I just want to boot up the Pi as a backup source if I have problems with my LiveU Solo. However the Nighthawk is also being used to configure the network. Thoughts?

Hey Alex, good question! In all my testing with the ATEM it is not a seemless switchover… I’ve noticed it take anywhere between 3-10 seconds to realise that my Ethernet has been disconnected and then switch over to 4G. So your viewers would experience a dropout. But with Speedify that’s not the case. Hope this helps :)

I tested it on the BM HD Webcaster, was seamless & watched several videos showing it working on the ATEM & BM pitch it as a feature BUT on the ATEM looks like you can't HDD rec & phone tether at the same time via the USB (even with a hub).. sounds like you have to choose one or the other, so there's a trade off.. also.. via BM would only have 2x fail overs.. a bonded could have 2,3,4 etc..

@AlexPettitt
@AlexPettitt 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, exactly pretty much. So for this you would need to put Speedify in SPEED mode rather than redundancy mode. Once you do that, Speedify will evenly split up your data packets (not duplicate them) and send them down all 3 connections. So you get the aggregated speed of all your devices, but don't get the redundancy if one of the fails. I hope this makes sense :)
@eventvideographyguide8506
@eventvideographyguide8506 3 жыл бұрын
@@AlexPettitt @Alex Pettitt So the only downside in the Speed mode is that you lose packets when you lose a connection right (meaning that part of your video will be lost to your audience)? The liveu Solo, which also does bonding, does not lose any packets while bonding whenever you lose a connections. The difference is that LiveU is $50 a Month and Speedify is less than $10 a month. Correct me if I am wrong.
@AlexPettitt
@AlexPettitt 3 жыл бұрын
@@eventvideographyguide8506 It's more that the device prioritises speed over redundancy. So if one of your connections was to drop for a second, Speedify will still try to distribute the traffic down the remaining two connections. But they may not be able to support the speed data that your pushing out. So then your stream may start to buffer. LiveU solo would do the same. Speedify just has the added redundancy mode, where by it doesn't increase speed, but duplicated the packets and send them down all connections to increase redundancy :)
@eventvideographyguide8506
@eventvideographyguide8506 3 жыл бұрын
@@AlexPettitt I know both methods will buffer if you don't have enough Mbits to stream. If you always have enough Mbits even while removing connections; using the Speed option in Speedify you will still lose packets once you remove a connection but you will never lose packets by removing a connection while using the LiveU.
@pcislocked
@pcislocked 3 жыл бұрын
it won't exactly give the sum of all, especially if the connections don't match each other (like one connection with low latency and okay bandwidth and other one with high bandwidth but poor latency) or the connection conditions are dynamic (if it's satellite or cellular for example). but it will do pretty much same job as the liveU, as long as you got a good server latency to speedify(which you usually do)

The redeem codes were only for the first 3 people who spotted them in the video, they are now all claimed I’m afraid. I may be giving away more in the future though :)

Watched the video and my tech skills are not at the correct level yet. Looking to get a mobile live stream with good quality picture. One camera (a gopro or my phone) Something plug and play (not plug and PAY).

As many as you like really.... you just need to get them in. So if you had multiple USB breakouts, you could easily get 10+
