I still say the biggest reason for the downfall of MK1 is the kameo system. The kameo system is fun when you just want to dance around with crazy combos but MK has always been about its 1v1 matches. I'm not a pro player by no means but I consider myself a bit more than a casual player. I feel like MK1 was geared toward making casual players comfortable. Instead of making players find ways to make their character of choice work in any set up, they just need to find the perfect kameo to assist them. Even ranked matches use the kameo system. I don't agree with that either. Every kameo could have been a character and the kameos that already had a player in the main roster should not have been. 2 subs, 2 scorps, 2 kung lao, I thought was just wasted potential. They could have omitted those kameos or made them variations from the other timelines but then we would be looking a MK trilogy set up. The game needs to go back to base 1v1, make kameos as non ranked and custom casual fight option, and give us more main roster characters. That would probably save the game

I disagree. I think the Kameo system is the best way of implementing Variations without limiting the main fighter. Mk1 has the best gameplay of all mortal kombat. I really don't get how people choose mk11 before mk1...

@Oekten36 Mk1 had a great roster IMO. The story was better. Mk1 is just simply following the multiverse trend movies and games are following now. The guest characters in MK11 were better IMO as well. Like we got trash ass Omni Man and Homelander, which they would be better in an Injustice game to be honest. 1v1 battles with a special mode or towers to use kameos and the variations both preset and the ability to create custom variations. Even the character customizing was better. Now they could have added more skin but the one we got in MK11, you could change the colors and more than just one other piece. I could see why people went back to 11.

Of course MK11 has more players. MK1 took everything that was bad about MK11 and made it worse. It's so obvious this was meant to be the next DC fighting game, and it got last minute changes. Not unlike Cyberpunk. A lot of us forgave MK11's over-reliance on multiverse storytelling, because we naively believed it was the end. And how can you not? Rewatch the Liu Kang ending of Aftermath and tell me what you think fans were anticipating with MK1. As much as the FGC and streamers, and now the developers themselves don't want to admit, the story is essential to Mortal Kombat. You might be used to your fighting game franchise half-assing the writing, but MK fans are not. They also took MK11's customization options, online play, offline content, and made them all worse. Been seriously thinking about redownloading MK11 to get my fix since I don't have a readily available way to play MK9. I haven't touched MK1 since three days after Khaos Reigns released.

Guests characters are getting out of hand they are just there for the sake of being there without even taking into account if they fit in the game. Besides no kameos this time, overall the Kombat Pack 2 is trash.

IMO I think the MK1 story was really really rushed I thought it should’ve focused more on the new timeline I was very invested in the new characters and should’ve went with a simple story and villian and THEN go into the time travel multiversal crap or done something different, and the state of the competitive gameplay I still really really thought they should’ve done “TAG TEAM” I personally don’t enjoy the assist Kameo characters as much, you could tell they could’ve done it but it’s not that big of a deal but that’s just my own nitpick and every fighting game has their own gimmick

How is TOT hard? You can get to 1000 points easily after completing Invasions and then leveling up your character with the herbs (all on attack or special). Then grind on the +25 tower (last on the right) for a few hours/between days and you'll be fine.

Mortal kombat fell off after MKX. I knew once they added Khronica and time travel. They already did time visions with raiden in MK9 which was weird to repeat it, but with even more time travel. MX9 and MKX was way more fast paced and had a lot more better combo’s, and they never should have made another mortal kombat game after MK11. It should have been injustice 3 to spread out game development. MK1 is all over the place.
