If MK11 could make RECORD BREAKING amount of money and WB still felt it necessary to move on with a Twitter tweet and told NRS to make the next game, what makes anyone think they’ll stick around to keep working on this game like SF5 or Tekken 7? Like a... Soulnado! But yeah, pretty sad. Mortal Kombat for is a legacy franchise, and yeah it's almost fitting that a pulp-y 70s/80s martial arts movie game is attached to a sleezy company like WB, it legitimately deserves better. Mortal Kombat 9's story mode redefined expectations in fighting games going forward, just to name one place where it innovated, and MK1 just feels like a miss.

Imo NRS’s problem is that they’re a pretty complacent company because they can afford it whereas other fighting game devs do have to listen to feedback bc if they don’t they’ll lose money (sf5). Also the fact that they were in a 2 year cycle for 10 years meant that they weren’t able to reinvent themselves and innovate on their gameplay, yet they still tried to reinvent themselves the same way SF does but you can’t give yourself 2 and a half years to create new gameplay systems and mechanics and expect ppl to just like it. It’s why MK11 turned out the way it did. And why Injustice isn’t as hype as MK. Because Injustice was always MK lite when it really should’ve played like Marvel. It’s something I sadly don’t see getting resolved, and I don’t even think getting away from WB is going to fix it.

Same! It became my favorite MK actually. The kameo system offers so much fun and creativity, it's like variations on crack, as if you had 20 versions of each character. The new characters are sauced as hell. I really hope we get at least another season of dlc with kameos included. I know there's some issues between mobility, inputs, singleplayer content and other things but gameplaywise it's on a really good state and the last couple patches (both balance and QoL) are showing a promising future. The game deserves a nice sunset at least :)

I pre-ordered MK1. Only reason i did is because Tekken 8 was a few months away and i wanted something to sustain my FGC itch for awhile until T8. I still remember booting the game up for the first time on launch day and hopping online and it was just a nightmare. horrible connections left and right, netcode didn't do a damn thing, and that classic MK Toxicity was there right from the get-go. When I heard there was an infinite for Sindel, I learned the loop and used it online. It was incredibly fun to watch people get angry and read the hate messages I got. Once that infinite got patched out, I haven't touched the game since. That's not to say that I only played the game to cheese, *I only had fun playing the game when playing it the way it was not intended to play.* once i realized this, I became upset that I spent $70 to play a game for a couple weeks just to find out I didn't even like the feel of the gameplay. I think Mk1 would have been so much more successful if they kept the same game mechanics but changed it to Injustice 3 and sped the game up just slightly. Injustice 3 with Kameos would have been fucking awesome, but it was a wasted opportunity.

For very pure games like SF6 it’s hard to shake up. You play it for the purity so wild changes don’t actually fix the problem. Games like Marvel or Darkstalkers do a better job of keeping timing you for more SF than anything else

It is wild to me that Kameos are a deal breaker for some players because it is undoubtedly the coolest thing in MK1. I absolutely loathe how MK11 played and think MK1 has steadily pushed in a far better direction that brings me back to MK9/MKX in the best of ways but the monetization and live service systems surrounding the gameplay burn me out just thinking about them. Hope NRS stays open, regardless of what happens. I wish y'all had touched on Khaos Reigns' price too cause $50 for that expansion vs Aftermath's $30 price tag is probably a huge part of why far fewer people showed up for it. Base game seems to be selling super well but not even I could be bothered to spend $50 on just an expansion when the holidays are right around the corner.

MK1 has bad fundamentals, in MK11 if you done something unsafe you are punished, MK1 kameos can save you. Competitively MK11 is far superior for the hard-core fighting gamers, MK1 is a party game and Competitively it's trash. Also, the base game didn't sell 'super well' it's been the lowest recorded sales since MK9, MK11 and MKX dwarfs the numbers.

As an overall product MK11>MK1 I get if you think gameplay wise MK1 was more fun but be honest alot of that fun came from how wild and abusable the gameplay mechanics are and we know the FGC loves the fun of a broken abusable game.... looking at you MvC2. 52:00 Mortal Kombat Deception's Koquest Mode is the mode that made me involve myself into MK. Yes, it need to come back under this template. Making 3D gameplay would be interesting but the n°1 issue are "The Reboot" I'm at the point were I just want NRS to pick up the Story Right after Armegeddon. Yes that game signified the End Road of the Midway Era but... come on... you can write around that. Speaking of writting: "The game stories have to stop taking themselves so seriously. The tone should be of a B-Movie 80's explotation film. In fact the First MK Film but with gore and the Tone would be perfect.

The game just did not click with me....when i started playing it i thought it was quite fun but it did not last, while it had the usual MK fare it did feel rushed the invasions mode was a snore fest. The Kameos had potential but i am afraid i could never get hyped about a new Kameo character, for me my fav MK game was MKX and I wish it went back more to that type of gameplay.
