I used to be on the road early in my life, and when this tune came on the radio, I’d stop and just listen to it. It gave me inspiration just to be alive and enjoying life as I passed through it. Keeping in step with some of these comments, I’m 84.

I wonder if, in 1954, when Alex North was sitting at a piano picking out notes and chords for this song, he could have imagined that 48 years later it would be presented like this and eventually viewed fifteen million times by people sitting in their living rooms all over the world.😊❤❤

Louie Armstrong's What a Wonderful world epitomizes. Music as unifying. I love Church Hymns and the old Negro spirituals as well as Classical, especially Chopin. Unchained Melody: I have wonderful memories of this song, as I was driving down I35, listening to this on my cassette tape in our 1983 Camaro, Z28, on my way to a new job in Dallas, Texas, with clothes, cooking pans, plates, silverware, glassware and what I thought I needed for the new job with the RTC. Leaving my wife, our son, who was then a Junior in high school in what would become a 15 month job, away from my family, during the S&L crisis in 1990-1991 was a difficult decision. I was just passing Albert Lea, Minnesota, when this played on the tape in the car. I cried for many miles, wondering if I was doing the right thing, leaving home and family, in those times, but I needed the work, to support my family, and our daughter who was in College in Tempe, Arizona, as a out of state tuition student. This song, and especially this rendition, brings back those tears, memories and the 1,000 mile drive just like it was yesterday, and it’s now May of 2020. On the way back, 15 months later, I put the tape back in the car, at that same location, just going home, not away from home, and the tears flowed again. We have danced in the kitchen and in many places around the world, many times since that return, and we celebrated our 51st wedding anniversary in March of 2020. Thanks to all who have posted memories, before my post, to Mike for sending this link to me, and I know that it will bring memories to others in the future. In these COVID 19 times, we need to remember these songs, what it means to us, as we are thankful for every day, today, and hopefully many more tomorrows to come. God Bless the USA and the bands that performed this song, as a tribute to our memories.

It's a Flugel Horn.
@michaelkirk79082 жыл бұрын
I agree that the musicianship is amazing. One little thing, though: He is playing a flugelhorn, not a cornet. In band, they ran out of trumpets and cornets, so I ended up playing a flugelhorn. A trumpet has a 1/3 conical bore along its length, with the remaining 2/3 bore cylindrical (straight). A cornet looks taller, has a 1/2 conical & 1/2 cylindrical bore along the length of the tube, so the cornet has a more mellow sound. The flugelhorn has a 2/3 conical bore & is bigger (taller) than either the cornet or trumpet, which should make it the most mellow sounding of the three. In addition, the trumpet mouthpiece is shallower and produces a more brilliant tone, while cornets & flugelhorns have more funnel-shaped mouthpieces. Of course, in band, we were not as concerned with the sound of the instrument as with how the mouthpiece might affect our ability to kiss girls.

@coastie19612 жыл бұрын
@@jackanderson6676 cyclical breathing. You maintain a reservoir of air in your cheeks to maintain the airflow as you breathe in through your nose. I really pissed off an occupational doctor once. We had to do a compulsory medical and one of the tests was for lung capacity. The idea was to exhale into this piece of apparatus and keep a small ball in the tube above a certain mark for as long as you could. I had been playing brass for about 45 years at that stage and it took the doctor about 4 minutes before he realised what I was doing.
