The "glory you leave on the table" is not taking the risk at all. A text message risk nothing and thus has no glory. This entire monologue strikes a certain chord with how men are wired. The point, at least for Uncle Eddie, and true in life as well is nothing can be achieved without taking a huge risk.

It gave the other guy a career-ending head injury, got Bertuzzi a crazy long suspension and a criminal charge. It was so bad that the Canadian government talked about bringing in a special law against hockey violence unless the league cracked down. Believe you me, you don't want to get Bertuzzi'd.
