I had a friend who is deep into Arbonne. She texted me on a Friday asking if I wanted to hang out that weekend. I was in the process of flying to where my family lives, because my grandmother was on her literal deathbed and given 72 hours to live. I told my friend that’s where I was going and what was going on. She texted me a couple days later, the day my grandmother died, and said “I know life is crazy right now but I really think you should consider Arbonne’s 30 days to healthy living program”. I’ll never forget it, and saying the MLM’ers take advantage of you when you’re vulnerable is 100% true. You can’t get more vulnerable than texting someone THE DAY they lost a loved one.

It saddens me how superficial and money-hungry the feminist movement has become. Obviously it's the toxic side of feminism, and no movement can exist without loud and manipulative assholes ruining it for the rest, but it's infuriating that no one takes feminism and its root beliefs seriously anymore because of it. It feels like there will never be progress and it's a very hopeless feeling. Thank you so much for the great video as always, Alpha Uncle Herman
@purplehood84183 жыл бұрын
I take feminism seriously. Lots of people take feminism seriously. Intersectional feminism especially. But this isn’t feminism. You can’t compare feminism to this because this is capitalism with flimsy feminist wrapping. Social movements are often co-opted and appropriated into capitalistic schemes, like the pyramid one. Learning to tell the difference is important. These thieves are counting on manipulating anyone they can. Beware, do your research, use critical thinking, and trust your gut.
@Ramsey276one3 жыл бұрын
Fully agree on that line about every movement!
@polly45313 жыл бұрын
It saddens me how uninformed and ingenious the non-feminist people have become. Obviously your first quote was generalizing instead of just straight up saying that's only a small part that is not even feminist. You can claim to be something and not be it. Problem with people is that they don't have an actual life, end up living on social media and actually believe everything they see. Cherry pick the negative sides of certain ideology and decide that's how the majority of people that follow that certain ideology are. Stop using North Americans as an example of everything and considering them to be the majority of every movement. Feminism is not about toxicity. It's like saying religion is about murdering because certain people use it for that. You can't simply take a small part of a community that is not really preaching for what they are fighting for and decide to make them the image of a movement. Before you complain about something do a thorough unbiased research. And don't spew your hate and try to justify it poorly.
@sonicthehedgegod3 жыл бұрын

Using the argument that it's "not illegal" is so cheap. First of all, if you're gonna say it's "not illegal" go ahead and slap a "yet" onto the end there. Second, since when does the law reflect what is MORALLY right or wrong? Scamming people is wrong, it SHOULD be illegal. That's why pyramid schemes are illegal and MLMs, which are just pyramid schemes with an upgrade, are becoming illegal on a case by case basis. There are tons of innocent people in prison, or people detained for non-violent crimes which aren't even crimes anymore yet they still sit in jail. There are people who commit horrible offenses against others who never see a day of punishment, and victims who never have a chance at retribution. The law is slow moving, and does not reflect morality. Saying that your business couldn't possibly be a pyramid scheme, couldn't possibly be ruining lives, just because it isn't against the law (yet) means nothing.

There was no pretense about a program that I had to join or any financial investment per se. And, that thing about hyping things up and Mexican wave is very true. These guys had us clapping for three f-ing minutes, kept asking us to clap hard and in sync before this scam artist showed up. They are so manipulative from the get go and just get you into this hype mood and a lot of people end up making decisions in haste. I remember them making comments about how most of our batchmates aren't exactly doing anything in there life to achieve financial independence currently as a way to look down on them. This is just ignorant because if that were the case then why would my batchmates even pursue higher education in the first place. This is just some next level of gaslighting. Luckily, I googled about the organization and found that it was just fluff and decided to distance myself from them. It still sucks because I wasted a Sunday on them. That group shut down after a few years as the head was arrested for fraud or something.

When I was still in school my friend invited me to a Mary Kay thing at another friends house. I had no idea that what was going on was even bad since I didn't know what a MLM was. I remember the lady trying to sell us stuff seemed really stressed out about it. Makes more sense knowing she paid for the products and was losing money. Later on a friend of my friends was hounding me to join her company and by then I knew she was working for a MLM. She always going to Vegas and posting about helping others with her company. Not once though could I tell what her company even did besides give financial advice. She harassed me so much to work for them it was creepy.

I can’t believe people are still falling into MLMs. They should teach about them in school.

My old best friend joined It Works in 2019, a few months before 2020. The amount of toxic drama and fake friendships that go on with the down lines and up lines is insane. My old friend and all her It Works buddies blew up my DMs and begged me to join. I felt bad because I understood that the upline just made all these girls think they were her friends, when really she was just making money off them.

dude my stepmom is literally in an MLM . everything said in this video is true , and it's crazy how she hasn't seen it for what it is . she's tried to get me , family , and my friends into it . i would always overhear the "meetings" she had , and it's a bunch of middle aged white women giving positive affirmations and talking about how many people they recruited . she sells something called mojo happy coffee , and if you look it up , there are plenty of people talking about how it's a pyramid scheme . it's ridiculously overpriced schlock , and she literally doesn't make money from it .

I misheard the woman in the Mary Kay video saying they can have a baby with help from Mary Kay because they will be "so excited and so obese"... I did realize she says "at peace" but lmao

Have y’all heard of Kimbyrleigha who used to be an anti-MLM KZbinr but then switched and became a Monat partner because she realised she could scam the girl-boss huns with her super sketchy online courses about social media and being an “entrepreneur”? That was wild because she used to talk so much shit about Monat and then suddenly turned around and was basically kissing their ass and talking about how much monetary damage she caused them just because she managed to meet the executives at the company lol

Sadly I think we have all had so called friends who merely viewed us as a selling opportunity. I think we have become alot more savvy and it will be interesting to see where the mlm take their tactics next

@@DSQueenie Watch James Jani's KZbin video titled 'The Multieval Marketing Cults'. He showcased a diagram there, and Avon was part of the group. Uncle Herman focused on the ones that parade as women empowerment when they're not only pyramid schemes but also cults. James Jani mostly touched on the financial aspects of it...the lies and the way those schemes operate.

Thank you for stopping the flashing/glitching filter a few minutes in, also the sliding images. IDK what's happening lately with all the channels I subscribe to starting to use constant flickering visuals through their videos. Update: Whoa boy that's a lot of flipping. BUT I looked through your last vids and it has it too SO I AM THE PROBLEM. Just gonna listen! Point still stands about not using the filter constantly, my fucking hero

My sibling almost got roped into Mary Kay in college, they only avoided getting deeper into it bc they were too anxious and awkward to seriously try to sell or recruit... I'm honestly really glad abt that, I'd hate to have seen them get dragged any deeper than they actually were.

Someone I rang up at my retail job tried to recruit me when I was 19. I was you g, didnt know how to say no, gave her my cell and said I’d meet at a Starbucks. I had a weird feeling about it and bailed last minute saying I had a family emergency. The text she sent was like “if this is true I’m sorry ur having a family emergency, but you just wasted My time….” It was a whole paragraph. But I kid u not she said “this is an opportunity for people who want to WIN AT LIFE” then it clicked for me and I remembered the mlm John Oliver episode I watched in AP gov the year before. So uhhh that British man saved me I guess. Hopefully u also can be someone’s life saving British alpha male.

Great video. If anyone wants to know more about this stuff there's a big antimlm community on youtube, I personally recommend münecat's videos, they are less personal and offer very deep dives with a nice song at the end.
