Great video, hats off to the Tynesider for doing something to help. I think the shot at 6:45 gives a bit of a clue about where some of the high street’s problems are coming from - it’s flanked on all sides by main roads, car parks and derelict patches of grass. What’s desperately needed is new residential development surrounding the town centre, to create a customer base of local residents who are able to come and spend their money there.

Haven't seen Gateshead High Street for about 30 years as I've moved away. Although I'd heard it had declined, I am shocked at just how much. Trinity Square looks fab now though. Good on them at the Tynesider for injecting life back into the high street. It is a fantastic idea because so many older people don't feel safe at night but still want to go out. Very impressed with the Railway Quarter because that used to look so dingy and dirty but now it looks bright and welcoming. Can't wait for your next video.

Fabulous video Eddie. Barley Mow born but raised in the Teams until I left to move to West Yorkshire in 86. So sad to see my home town the way it is, but it was declining when I left. Great to see people trying their hardest to raise it's profile when the council should be ashamed of themselves for letting it go. I do get back occasionally, but rarely venture onto the High Street where my Dad used to drink in the pubs and Mam shopped. Coming up in a few weeks to visit Mams final resting place. I worked as an engineer on the trinity square project and thought at the time this could suck the life out of the town.Giving everyone the same shiny anodyne version of a town they’ve got elsewhere isn’t gonna bring money to a place. Its character that makes you want to come to a place and that’s formed by generation on generation of people of the place and what they bring to it. The place you didn’t go was the black bull.I regularly run up as it’s something of a legend on the punk scene as much as trillians is on the rock and metal scene and the punk scene is much bigger than people realise(big influence on a lot of current massive bands and the festivals get serious numbers)and Maz that runs the place goes back to the broken doll on westgate rd and has seen them all and still knows most.Great people, should definitely put a bit of a spotlight on them. One of the many varieties that are the spice of life making a place special

The luftwaffe did less damage to Gateshead High Street than the Liebour controlled council has done What needs to be investigated is the £23 million wasted on building a locked up never used car park and the wasteland next to The Sage where the supposedly £90 million original cost of an unwanted or needed music venue in direct competition to The Sage has ballooned to £350 million This invisible venue was supposed to be built and operational this year Gateshead High Street is best avoided, it's literally the dirty back lane leading to the bright lights of the big city
