Not only one of the greatest food cities in Malaysia, but top 5 in the world. Welcome to Penang everybody! This is the first of 5 and things are only going to get better from here. How many Nasi Lemaks could you eat in one sitting? Thinking I could do about 10 if I came hungry. NOTE: With the pasembur I said turnip when it is really jicama. Connect with me other places! Pasembur....good enough. However, if you want to pronounce it like a true penangite, you can say 'pasemboq' (pass-em-bog). Helps if you grunt a lil bit at the end. Also, if you ate something delicious and want to tell your friends about it, you can say "Sedap nak mampuih, habaq hang" which translate to "It is to die for, let me tell you". Come again to Malaysia/Penang. Maybe next time you can come to open house for Aidilfitri/Thaipusam/Gong Xi Fa Chai.

It's great that you have so much knowledge of the ingredients and flavour profiles. You get to accurately discern what's really on point and what's not. And of course, once you're used to spice, you kind of want it on everything. I have a German friend who got used the the spice and she had a blast eating all the food I took her to. Addicted to bananaleaf which always left the restaurant staff tickled pink. I always think its a blessing when you have a multicultural palette because you really get to enjoy everything. Eating with your hands..bonus. Well done! You're definitely doing it right. I must admit to being super curious about your backstory. Hope you put that up some day. Your mum sounds awesome too. what other good food do you have there? going over there spending hundreds in air ticket just doesn't make sense.
Hi. Regarding on the "hokkien mee" in 15:32, it should've been called "prawn mee" or "hokkien prawn mee" because "hokkien mee" is another type of dish in malaysia which are noodles fried in dark soy sauce😄

Well, in Penang if you say Hokkien Mee everyone knows that’s prawn mee.

totally wrong. in Penang, this is hokkien mee. hokkien mee's soup in Penang is cooked using pigs big bone and prawn shells. but the beauty of the soup in Penang is due to the pig bones and not the prawn shells. in fact, original hokkien Mee in Penang used very little prawns or prawn shells, and focused on pork ingredients. of coz nowadays it evolved due to ppl advertising it as prawn Mee with big prawns. your hokkien Mee in kl where they are dark soy sauce, is called hokkien char in Penang. your dishes in kl doesn't apply in Penang. just like your curry and Assam laksa, which penangites called as just laksa and curry mee, and your curry mee is actually chicken curry while ours are rock sugar Santan soup.
