Hi, Bill, I'm on my way out the door to take the train from Queens to Manhattan - I will watch this tonight. But your title says "hell and back ..." so was this medical experience even worse than the pain of the last six miles of a marathon? To be serious, I hope you're okay now. I will watch this later tonight when I get back home.

Thank you so much for the frank and open explanation of what you went through. It was very informative and I'm really appreciative of you taking the time to share all the crappy (and at times not so crappy) details. Like many people I also deal with hemorrhoid issues, but nothing so bad that I have had to have surgery. But if I need it in the future, your video will help prepare me for what the experience will likely be like. And yes, being able to run in the beautiful outdoors is something to be thankful for and never take for granted.

I come from a long lineage of hemmohoid sufferers (like my entire maternal side has had the surgery at least once, my grandmother twice). Often it's genetic (bc my dad doesn't eat as well as my mom yet he has no issues). You can only blame so much on diet. Thanks for the frank explanation, at times it was pretty humorous though I fully understand in the moment there was probably no humor to be found! I don't know when my hemmohoid time will come, I definitely have at least one that I know of (external). I'm due for the colonoscopy (turned 45 so, that's the new age) so maybe whenever I schedule that I'll get some insight as to what is going on up there 😂

It's amazing your passion for running and going outside and great example taht even bad things issues can happen in the life. but the nicest is that we don't have to give up and follow the right path, to do our all best to get back to our love for running! All teh Best to you and wish you a full recovery and you don't have any issues with hemoroids going forward. Your fan from Slovakia!

Hi Bill, I hardly ever comment on videos, but I thought it was great you were so honest about this. I had only prolapse surgery about 10 years ago, I'm 56 now and still running. I still remember reading a brochure about the procedure after talking to my doctor. In the brochure I think it said that the pain after surgery was 6 out of 10 or something like that, I'm not just saying this but I have a really high tolerance for pain and like you once the pain meds wore off from the surgery it felt like I had eaten glass for about a week. The one thing I wanted to mention was for years I had a friend who tried to convince me to get a bidet. Last spring I got a really good deal on one and so I figured I'd give it a try. I recovered from my surgery in about 7 to 10 days so much easier than what you describe, but over the last year using the bidet the little irritation that I still had has completely cleared up. I had gone on some trips without the bidet(obviously no access) and the irritation(external) would return, but now almost a year on when I travel and don't have access to a bidet I feel great. Maybe this is TMI and maybe ask your doctor since your surgery is more recent and having a jet of water shot on your backside I'm not sure if that's a problem, but using the bidet everything feels even better than before I had a prolapse, basically I feel like I'm back in my 30's in that regard. If it matters I bought a on sale Brondel Bidet from woot for cheap, no way I was paying full price I'm too cheap.

I really do appreciate your comments, Jon! I realized that this is a very common issue and procedure that many are embarrassed to discuss. The decision to post my experience and tips was a no-brainer after what I went through. If a single viewer gets something helpful from the video, then it was worth it.....Glad to hear your recovery was quicker than mine. It's definitely a crap shoot (no pun intended lol!) as to how each person's experience will play out.....Will definitely consider a bidet! Thanks for sharing, and thanks for the suggestion!

Bill, I really appreciated your comments in the beginning of this video about being grateful we can run and to not take it for granted and how we would miss it if we can't do it. I have been procrastinating on starting my training block for the NYC Half - had planned to start a week ago and still haven't done it. You have reminded me what I should have already thought of - that at 73, I might not be able to do this someday and I will miss it tremendously. I will go to Central Park tomorrow and re-start my training block for the NYC Half. Thank you.

Good luck on your training Cathy. And yes, OMV's point about being grateful to be able to run and should never be taken for granted is so true. Being a fellow 73-year-old, I still look forward to an every other morning run and putting in the training for an upcoming event.

@@JoeFleegel Joe, thank you - I love this message from you. Yes, I also run every other day - I just can't recover otherwise at age 73.
