Patchface is definitely wired into some alternate wavelengths to be calling these events so accurately. The common tongue of Westeros isn’t his native language, so it’s possible that some of his phrasing is due to that...and being a bit mad after his death & resurrection.

If Patchface's lips got blue after he drowned his face was a cool Trident's symbol, with the blue lips an the red and green tattoos. Maybe a cool way to represent the different magics are just one magic. Patches is perfect for that, he died in the water, has an almost greenseeing prophetic skill, and he is part of Stannis's court, who is a fire-god worshipper. All three magics in one guy

Just a thought on smoke filled bubbles: in the green sea, people fall up like bubbles. The natural course of a bubble represents the natural course of life. The “smoke-filled” bubbles referred to in the text are lives tarnished by fires of the past, ending up far away from where they started but still filled with blackness. Cool tidbit: Catelyn sees frozen bubbles suspended in a thick pane window, a nod to her life essentially being stopped but not ended.

I honestly don't think Patchface's bit about the shadows has anything to do with Melisandre's shadow babies. I don't think the shadow babies are significant enough to draw Patchface's attention, or at least not as much attention as he gives to it. They come and go, they're fleeting, nothing more than tools for a single task that vanish forever once they're done. Same goes for the shadows in Mirri Maz Duur's tent, they only appear the one time. Patchface places so much emphasis on this song, singing it several times, I think the whole thing is entirely about the Others, the cold shadows, the white shadows, that are going to come down from the north and bring darkness on the world. Whereas Melisandre's shadows and Mirri Maz Duur's shadows are nothing but instruments of their makers/summoners, the Others are independent entities with minds of their own and they threaten an apocalypse. When it comes to things to prophesy over, I think this far outweighs the other candidates.
@Zyxory3 жыл бұрын
Yes, I would totally agree. Patch face's "shadows" that are coming to stay are the others.
@DavidLightbringer3 жыл бұрын
They’re not really at odds though because all of this shadow dancing stuff plays off of one another. The shadow babies are a big clue about how the Others are made, they are symbolic parallels, etc etc. And the birth of the dragons is equal in importance to the Others.

In my part of Mexico a Brujo is a spell carter, a possessor, mainly works with dark arts, there’s about an 80/20 between a bad brujo and a good one. A shaman/chaman/xaman, is more of a healer, deals more with herbs and natural elements. People often seek the aid of a chaman if they feel someone put a spell on them or are wishing bad things on them. Basically someone doing some type of brujería on you, you seek the aid of a chaman to scare away the bad spirits or vibes.

I’m currently reading about norse mythology and had a thought: Could the Valkyries be the inspiration for Val? Valkyrja means"chooser of the slain". The valkyries are handmaids of Odin. They are accompanied by ravens and pick the dead who wait at Valhalla to fight in the apocalypse, Ragnarök. Val is kind of a wildling warrior princess with ties to the old gods and the others.

The "everything is opposite under the sea" idea got me wondering about the seasons. If Planetos is like Earth, Westeros and Essos are presumably in the northern hemisphere, with its frozen North and the Summer Isles to the south. So when it's winter in the northern hemisphere, is it summer in the southern hemisphere on continents unexplored in our story, or does the whole planet experience one season at a time? Is the Land of Always Winter a misnomer? Will the Winds of Winter feature Others just chilling on the other side of the planet sipping margs in speedos?
@richardwithanarr3 жыл бұрын
I always got the impression that the Summer Isles were equatorial and the Lands of Always Winter were polar. Like, The Wall isn't in "The Lands of Always Winter." The Wall. A 700ft (~215m for the people who have moved past imperialism) high wall of ice. Winterfell even has snow in the summer, and it's hundreds of leagues to the south! And this whole region isn't considered "Always Winter", only an unmapped part beyond the frostfang mountains. I've always seen it as the arctic circle extreme part. LmL is about symbolism, mythology, and archetypes, not really conjecture on trying to apply scientific realism to this fantasy novel series that includes, among other things, dragons, pyromancy, psychic links, hiveminds, and necromancy. (You chose to ask this on a video about a boy who literally drowned to death as a child, was resurrected without any human intervention, and now seems to have prophetic speech.)

1:01:14 There's also the take that "we fall up" refers to drowning, and serves as the first hint that his under the sea talk refers to death and the afterlife. If Shereen is gonna die because of something to do with a dragon then that supports the theory that Stannis is gonna burn her to forge “Lightbringer” due to Melisandre’s insistence. Cuz if Melisandre resurrects Jon with Gillie’s baby that would be proof to Stannis that sacrificing kings blood works. So I can see a scenario where Melisandre urges Stannis that they don’t have anymore time due to The Others. And we know that the Azor Ahai prophecy has two interpretations. One with a sword and another with dragons. So if the sword is only a metaphor for a dragon then Shereen will die in the failed ritual. Cuz if Dany has instead sacrificed her in the pyre, that would actually be the forging of Lightbringer. And obviously this means stannis is a fake AA figure while his character is critic of duty and honour etc.
