She works 40 hours a week already & his grand gesture is to offer her a full time position with a $5000 raise. That's about $2.40 an hour. If she ends up working more than 40 hours it's even less. The following is a GENUINE QUESTION, I am not just being snarky: When she was a part timer, was she working the extra hours as "overtime"? In America do you get paid a higher amount if you do overtime? (I live in the UK, and here employers do NOT have to pay a employee for working overtime - as long as the average pay does not fall below the national minimum wage.)
@Fluffykeith2 жыл бұрын
What I'd like to have seen is some indication of what the full time hours are like. She was working 6 days a week part time, which sounds like shifts, if that was set to full time would it be 5 days a week with normal store opening hours? That change could make a big difference to her work/life balance (in my own job Im currently training someone who used to work shifts at their old job, and now are so happy to be in a mon-fri 9-5 job that they have their weekends again). Additionally, he didn't touch on the wages for the full time job. Is this $5000 raise just on top of what she earns in the part time, 6 days a week...or is it a $5000 raise on the standard wage for the full time? There's a lot that needs unpacked.
@paulbradford82402 жыл бұрын

I've had numerous medical procedures for a seriously life threatening illness. My hospital stay and operation was more of a posh hotel suite, complete with a balcony with literally a million dollar view, (no kidding.) I've had several ER, doctors and specialist visits, PET SCANS, several Biopsies, and every medical attention and needs met, and all I've had to pay is AUD$380. In US dollars thats approximately US$270. Unbelievable that a single mum works six days a week, is a dedicated loyal employee, with a magnificent healthy productive work ethic, and until she was spotted for her worth, was uninsured. The US is only first world country for those that can afford it. Typical, 90% of the wealth is owned by only 10% of the population in the good old USA.
@SighNaps2 жыл бұрын
I agree with everything that you said. In order to provide context, I live in NY, USA. My sister was uninsured for a period of time due to her circumstances and I was helping to cover medical costs for my niece. A single visit to a pediatrician for bronchitis, the one time use of a nebulizer, and the necessary courses of steroids and antibiotics were USD $431.67. Years later, I had to pay for her ER visit after my sister thought she broke her arm. The ER visit, the X-ray, the costs for the radiologist and a "specialist fee" (my sister was insured at this time, but in the US a hospital may be covered by insurance and have staff that are not) was multiple thousands of dollars.

This company is pretty big. The goal is to pay labor the least amount possible to increase profit. The workers being able to pay their bills ect? Not the companies problems, it's not a charity. Everyone is expendable. That's the attitude.. But if some refuse to work at the wage offered? Then they are considered lazy. You have to rent from someone to live, pay to eat, car and insurance,, I-Phone, internet on and on. ....The answer is always to live with less. What a future for our generations. Basically work your butt off while young and be thankful if you get any wage at all. Then when older and worn out? Thrown to the curb.

Sounds to me like a bunch of entitled, spoiled kids in the comment section. So the bosses on this show are only good hearted and kind if they give their employees $20,000 or more, or pay for them a new car, or pay for their college, or something like that. I mean the girl seemed pretty happy with what he did for her, and was had appreciation for it. Sounds to me like you people just want something for nothing huh? I mean I get it if the company was treating them really bad, but not offering a 401k is not very rare. There are a lot of companies that don't offer 401k, same with health insurance, and stuff like that. There are also companies out there that only work people 38 hours a week. Now them stretching it out over 6 days is a little much, but your not working long hours either. So my advice if you think it is so bad what this owner is doing and have the attitudes you have is to find a job that suits you, and get the education you need to work at that.
