Your videos are helping me to realise why i have always had troubles with my own personal relationships. Alot of my programming did come from childhood. I was spoken down to constantly and never defended myself. I chased boys to get them to love me and make me feel special. Ruined good relationships & took a really bad one for me to turn to KZbin. I am in recovery from being very co dependant. And with having young children, i do not want to repeat old cycles/patterns. And understand now, it all starts from me. Thank You Jenna!

I run into that quite a lot. When I don't stand up for myself, there's a lot of people that will just take full advantage of it. It's really pretty disappointing. I agree that I should speak up, but either way it's still their bad. Respect, consideration, and fair mindedness are very important traits. If I feel walked on or exploited by someone, they will eventually lose something from me that they would have had. Maybe I won't rent my room to them next time. Maybe I avoid them or choose not to contact them. In some way shape or form, they lose something, and I may or may not tell them why. They may not even be aware that they lost something. Sometimes I tell them, sometimes I don't.

You hit the nail and really explained it well. It's not as complicated as it seems to articulate boundaries, to have "edges." A friend of mine used to use that expression. Now, I know they were referring to boundaries. Without clear demarcation lines, you become amorphous. Thank you for a great video!

I love you so much. Never stop doing what you're doing. I never experienced so much validation before. It is a relief that you so adeptly, expertly, and spiritedly expose the strategies used by narcissists, and how becoming your real self is ironically, and beautifully, the answer to overcoming the stalemate of an abusive relationship

Currently dealing with these with my sister. She is very Christian and the way she pushes me she claims is out of love. But she disagrees with so much of what I say, always wants to know why I disagree, and is manipulative... I have trouble being certain about if people have personality disorders, especially narcissism.. because all people in my life that are toxic are also loving.. anyways. Thank you for your work on this. It’s amazing and very unique and rare. ♥️

Blake Silvertooth turn the tables on her. Everything she has done to you, do to her. Push your beliefs (even if you have to make something up) on her. Refuse to listen to her, tell her your way is the right way, hers is wrong and you are only doing this out of love for her. Two can play at that game.

Ugh. Sounds like you may have some toxic relating going on. Take care of yourself. Thank you for your sweet comment. It means a lot. I hear you. I will speak about this in the future. Toxic people are NOT loving. When they exhibit kindness it’s a manipulation tactic. They want to appear loving, kind and giving. Its to throw you off so you can always be primed and wide open for attack.

Vanessa thanks for the reply to my comment Vanessa. Has your experience shown you that toxic people (people that are trying to change and control you in some way, and don’t understand that it’s wrong, is how I understand it) are knowingly trying to control and manipulate you?

Thank you for these videos. Thanks to your guidance I realized that I am a codependent/people pleaser and instead of focusing on everyone around me I have been able to go to therapy and work on myself. I know this may sound silly, but I believe in feng-shui. And my helpful people section of my house was a messy closet. I cleaned that closet and put my Buddha statue in there and then found your videos. Ever since I have been on my healing journey. Merry Christmas to you!

Boundaries are very hard to set if you don't have a good sense of self......I have found that I had to heal a lot before I could begin to set them. Also, I like to soften the process by using humour and being playful when I can. Otherwise, I find it can all get too serious and cause other problems.

When I wasn't sure of which personal boundaries to set and wasn't in touch with my feelings as much as I am now I would usually stall for time. Even now I have set rules which include not being invited at the last minute because I am usually in the middle of something when I get a last minute invitation and it's nice to have something to look forward to, any change of plans at the last minute (eg being invited to have coffee but getting dragged round clothes shops instead) and when offered food or drink I was say yes if I want it and no I don't want it so will not be pressured into saying yes when I said no first time.

I like the part where you said that narcissists can't stand boundaries and will lie, guilt trip, make up stories, and set up situations and do anything to try and violate one of your boundaries. The word no is a no go for them. This kind of thing stresses me out. What if this person is your mother? - No contact. Sometimes they will wait almost a year before they try to break a boundary that you have set. They keep coming around to that darned boundary that they can't accept. It is like trying to keep a snake away from chicken eggs. They will look for a back door, a crack, or a window or even crawl up to the rooftop and drop down that way. Time makes no difference, they will remember that one little boundary that you set and they will come back to break that thing down. They are driven by the word no. They remember that darned word no . It goes down in their memory banks. They can't remember anything else you say, however the word no holds a special place in their serpentile brain.

About F.O.G., I think that everyone knows what Fear is, but the 2 others require some exploration. The "sense of Obligation" refers to an inner voice that keeps saying "I should _ _ _ _". There is self directed shaming when you feel that you are not behaving in that ideal, virtuous way... that high standard of morality that you hold yourself to - without even realizing that the Emotional Manipulator is not holding themselves to that level. I refer to the sense Guilt as a mix between Guilt and Shame where - Guilt is about your less-than-ideal behaviour, thoughts or even beliefs. - Shame is about who you are, your flaws and imperfections that cause yourself and others to believe that you and/or your opinions are worth less than those of others. I'm not finished learning. I invite anyone for whom this is not very clear to read more about this. Brené Brown has scientifically researched shame and vulnerability and written many excellent books on it. (I bought and listened to all the audiobooks from her) Happy 2018 to all !

I have a coworker that I suspect is a narcissist. He is an overt one, anyway, so it's not that hard to see that he is a narcissist. But now I know for sure. I was speaking about some topic in the office, and this person wanted me to give him an information that I didn't want to give to him. I said that I don't want to speak about that thing. One of the collegues was fine with this. The narcissist kept insisting, and kept saying "I don't understand why aren't you telling us , why do you keep it a secret , bla bla .".. I didn't tell him :) But voila...here they are.

I just blocked and went no contact with a guy I started dating a month ago. He kept ignoring my request not to touch me, not to text me excessively etc. He always wanted a reason and would make me out to be a villain or weird for having boundaries. It was already so much work from day one. If I had not known who I was, what I stand for, and what is acceptable behavior from someone I’m dating then, I could have allowed the manipulation to take root and fully blossom

Love this video, had alot of people harrassing me behind my personal business and what I have as a right and being my own person to do. They even used things like God stopped it when in fact it was them trying to control my life because they felt it was right for me or what they thought i wanted or needed because it made them happy when the truth is never put the key to your life and happiness in the hands of others. I've been through alot of injustice and harrassment and people trying to force and bring about this or that when truth is I needed to get myself together and do what was best for me and take care of me not be dragged around like a rag doll or manliputed into doing what others felt was best. This very thing had me trying to take my own life several times and hating the one life I have on this planet. Sent me into alot of deep depression yet I have ever right to walk away and refuse to tolerate it they followed and harrass me and do so still trying to get me to change my mind and as sick as these individuals are they threaten death and other harm to me on a daily basis trying to get me to give in to what they want and even get angry and talk down on me. They are everything that you said here toxic oh try to control who I talk to and go around as if anything Ibdo effects or has anything to do with them period. What makes me is I'm me and have a right to be me and not anyone else and can careless to be anyone else not meaning that I think I'm better than anyone else because I have no need to compare myself with others just really excited about going to do me for me and do so proudly and happily. I don't have to explain and doesn't mean that it's a perfect time to force my back up against the wall and try to talk me out of it by using God or blesses or riches like I've had people do. The best ricj anyone can imagine is being there true authentic self loving the life they work, create and build as well as live and do so for you and not to please others.

I've had people push food onto me because I said "no, thank you" or shook my head just once and they assumed I was only initially refusing out of politeness. But if I wanted that food I would have said "yes" in the first place. People who don't take "no" for an answer are toxic people who should be avoided.

Well, I know I do have moments where I do take a stance, moments, moments that do become quite frequent if I need them to be in front of family. I guess I speak out if I'm more angry but if I'm hurt, I go the opposite way, because when your hurt it don't feel right addressing the issue. I know I should but those times by pass me so it's not just a case of saying no to going shopping or because someone I don't like is at a party, its something they have verbally said that's made an emotional impact on me. The thing is, with me and my husband I pick him up on things all the time, he does to me, but generally we are very loving and happy, and we fight, sometimes, but when we do we are both than willing to make up and resolve the argument, if we haven't already in the process of arguing, its kind of funny how we do it. But, stories I hear off my Mom and sister is, "I make my other half work for my forgiveness" my mom never said goodbye no thing the once after she and my dad had cross words when he was leaving for a golf tournament!!! She sometimes gives me ways to manipulate my husband to get him to do what I need him to do and I don't wanna do that, I ask him something, once, twice and then get angry enough to get him moving - sometimes it works out if he's not gaming in an important one!!! I know!!! Big kid. I don't wanna manipulate him, and what I have noticed is, both my sister and mother's ways with dealing with their husbands (because they see themselves as Greak Goddesses because in their minds only they know the best ways) what they are telling me is more about themselves and when I ask questions, (so I'm pulling myself out of the equation) what they are doing is revealing themselves to me, whereas I, the observer, am getting to know exactly how think, how they operate, and then I feel more in control, its kind of like acting and not reacting, plus they love it when I ask questions but when I get to this mindset, they are recalling themselves to me so I'm feeling more and more in control

I love your fireplace behind you. I just discovered my now ex boyfriend was cheating on me, I stayed 3 months longer than I should, that was how long he had been cheating on me and my intuition felt something was very wrong. He bulldozed over my boundaries and took me for granted, often threatening to break up with me over tiny things and using this weird manipulation tactic that made me feel like he was better than me, by making me jealous of other women. Just a bunch of weird stuff that I see better now in hindsight. I walked away after finding tangible proof that he was cheating on me, I put up those boundaries. He went into psycho mode and constantly tried calling me over and over again until I blocked him. Now he's with the girl he cheated on me with. I'm 25, had a narcissistic mom and I totally understand what you mean about the clump family dynamic. I just hate that I'm in my mid-20s having to learn boundaries with trial and error, feels like I should already know these things.

LOL, I’m in my early 50’s and only started learning a couple years ago. Please learn now ladies. This last relationship for me was the worst yet. He was plotting to kill me, I have no doubt. He tried at least a dozen times to get me to sign my will over to him. Nine felony convictions that I found out about after I kicked him out. He is a horrible person. A true psychopath who gets off on other’s pain and feels empowered by it. It’s truly disgusting. This man is looking for someone to murder. I am certain of it. This has changed me on many levels. One of the biggest reasons I let this man into my life was because my boundaries were weak. He pretends to be the victim of abuse, but he is the abuser. He ruined every relationship I had behind my back. He tried to break me. It didn’t happen. But I’m freaking tired of the metaphorical 2x4’s bashing me in the face because I felt the need to help people that didn’t deserve my help and/or trusting in the wrong people even tho my intuition told me otherwise. I don’t feel I need to be nice for niceness sake anymore. Thank you Jenna, from a fellow Texan in the hill country. This was right on. I love Sedona! And Sedona AZ is one of my favorite places. In my family is a toxic sister in law that will not speak to me at all. If she does, she degrades me. I am currently in therapy and some of the stuff you said was also said in a therapy session. Hopefully in the near future if I need to do something to have a boundary, I can respect my own rights. I will be subscribing to you. Also, I like the fact that you don't edit your video. Narcs can be very needy. If you so no, then starts the begging, twisting and manipulating. Can seem flattering at first, like "Im so popular or in demand". But after awhile you feel used. And usually if you ask something, they have no problem saying no in sec or even thinking of coming halfway.

I wish she would’ve specified that the Church dynamic was legalistic....not just church in general. It was a blanket statement based off a common experience myself included for those that end up in one of these Church settings. Finding a Solid Church that is grounded in the Truth but also GRACE based AND recovery based you will NOT have this experience! Please don’t toss out the baby with the bath water. Healthy Churches do exist you just need to know how to discern the difference and usually a good indicator is when they have Recovery material and recourses available.

How about having too many boundaries and being uptight unless it benefits you ? Some people especially who suffered childhood trauma, have learned to rely on themselves and shut anything down. Coming too strong. I like to give a reason why and let others know, teach them how it is reasonable for me to ask or deny something, hear their side and evaluate the degree of help they ask of me.

Jen, you are good at this , but I had ppl outside of our home , who added up to what some other ppl lacked in abundance . My physiotherapist was such a positive experience. Apparently it must be My NS sis , who takes the leading role of speaking her truth of the matters. Do not disappear, though.

I had boundaries , but they were run over. The bold have no respect for what they envy . Jealousy is paranoia. Nick was. TY. The bold eat one up in one bite.

Sedona is sooo cute!! One of the earliest boundary violations by the ex was to kick me under the table at a restaurant if I said something to a friend that he thought I should NOT say!! After about the 3rd time I said NO MORE kicking me!! So he would cross his arms, lean in close to evesdrop on my conversations, then nudge me hard with his elbow. Demonic.

How would this relate to someone in sales though? People in sales are taught to rebuttal and always push back, hence stepping over boundaries. All people seem to have an inate desire to pursue their selfish desire/want over another persons feelings.
