I had severe vertigo after bumping my head following a surgery last summer. They thought it was infection causing the dizziness but it turned out it was the ear crystals were wonky. I couldn’t move hardly for two months and finally went to PT for evaluation and it was obvious pretty quickly what the problem was. When they tilted me back the first time, I literally screamed and they had two people holding me down because I felt liked I’d just been pushed outside a rocket in outer space and was flailing around. They did the Epley one time and the positioning absolutely freaked me out at first, but totally fixed it. It was amazing. I felt so much better. I had barely moved my head for the two months before so I was probably naturally cautious, but they didn’t mention doing anything special when I left. I slept that night in my bed. I realize it might not be the answer for everyone but I hate to hear about people suffering when this might be the cure for them.

I was also sleeping on my back and mostly left side cause pain on right side. I Even used a rice bag on my right so my head wouldn't rock to the right. Turns out I went to a gentle chiropractor who treated me and sd I was sleeping to much on the left. Took me 4 nights in the middle of the night a brain storm to realize" dang , try sleeping on right. The chiro treated the right side pain and i didn't realize it. No pain no migraine so.. I sleept on my right then on my back a min or two b4 going to left. Amazing no vertigo or vestibular imbalance. I can get our of bed without any visual disturbance. Yay. Thank you Jesus for that inspiration and vision

I also should note that I had vertigo about 8 or 9 years ago after getting sick. I had the flu and my ears were full of fluid. I kept trying to “pop” my ears and I think that caused my ear drum to be perforated. I am not lying when I say I had vertigo for 6 months. It was the worst time of my life!!! No one told me about the Epley maneuver. One day after moving my jaw around one day, I felt a POP. The next day the vertigo was gone!!!! And one more thing! Haha After performing the maneuver, what I learned is to stay upright for a minimum of 48 hours to let the crystals settle. 24 hours was not long enough!!! Thank you!

I love you two! I just got back from my local physical therapist who is the specialist on vertigo. Right posterior canal BPPV it is. Not severe, yet I don't need to fall (again). I didn't remember falling until minutes ago when I heard you say it! A couple of months ago I fell because I side stepped, crossing my feet & the boot lace of my right boot got caught in the top lace hook of the left boot. I didn't think I got hurt & although I told my osteopath doctor when I saw her the next time (they always ask about falls since I'm 72) I totally forgot about it. I was told to keep my head straight... Yes! Very hard to do, so once I got home I dug out my old soft neck brace. I was told to sleep in my recliner for the next night or two & contact the physical therapist in a day & a half to see if I need to go back. I'm quite confident I can home treat myself now, with her advice & y'all backing up what I was told. I'm also glad to know I can go back to her if I need help again. She spent over an hour with me... Partly because we got talking about other health stuff & my DO is also her primary care doctor. Thank you for all the information you share! ☮️🙏🏼💞

Y’all’s explanation is spot on! I jerked my head while sleeping from a dream and immediately got vertigo. My balance was so off any movement made me nauseous. I was vomiting for hours. I went to the ER and luckily the doctor performed the Epley maneuver. He said some doctors wouldn’t perform this. It took a few tries to get it right, but it worked. It didn’t completely cure me, the vertigo lingers. I’ve done this maneuver multiple times but still not perfect. I’m hoping over time, it will get back to normal! It has caused a lot of anxiety for any time I get a touch of dizziness that it will happen again. It’s a very scary feeling to lose control of your balance. This maneuver is a life saver. Thank you for making and sharing this video!

I've had the vertigo now just over a year. First my ENT diagnosed it as Vestibular Neuritis gave me some prednisone said the dizziness should be gone in a week. It wasn't. Next stop a Physical therapist you have a crystal in your right ear. All last summer I did therapy including the Epley maneuver well over 100 times. Next up my ENT said no you have a Vestibular Migraine. prescribed me Venlafaxine ER 37.5m (a anti-depressant). Take this for 2 weeks and you'll be fine. I take one at 10am. By noon the vertigo is 80% gone. Cool. At 2am the next morning I wake up with a blinding headache. Since I don't get headaches and I had read if you take this medicine you might want to monitor your blood pressure. So I take my blood pressure. It's 196/101. Yep off to the emergency room we go. Anyone who can point me in the right direction you get a $100 bill in the mail. No B.S.

With Vertigo the whole room.spins. Vestibular is lighter version of dizziness Even aging affects balance. Exercise putting foot in front of the other . Hard to do. Or stand facing a corner the touch the opposite wall with opposite hand...such as left hand to right wall . Or focus on your extended hand with 1 finger up. Focus on it and turn head to right then to left with eye focused on finger. .had all this for 2 mos. Put belladonna oil in my ears and seemed to stop these issues

@@maryjanesteinbrecher3953 thank you, I’ll try that. As I’m getting older I’m having problems with my balance with lots of dizziness. My sweet little momma suffered from vertigo so badly. She’d be in bed for days throwing up. So very sick. Once I took over her health care I took her to an ear nose and throat doctor and he diagnosed her with vertigo. He gave us a print out of these maneuvers and I took her home and the next time she started to get dizzy we tried them out and she was back on her feet right away. She was even able to swing in a swing for the first time since she was a kid without getting sick. She cried she was so happy. This works 100%. But it’s best to do it before you get really dizzy. Because then it’s very hard to do without getting sick. I suffered with vertigo for years. So bad I couldn’t bend over or lean my head back in anyway. And had a couple of bouts of nausea and vomiting all day long. Then I figured out how to do this maneuver as soon as I feel even the slightest bit dizzy. Approximately once every couple of years. I can’t tell you what a difference it made for me in my life. Now I can sleep with my head back one pillow or on either side. I used three pillows for years.

Thank you for posting. I have vertigo issues from time to time that was treated with meclizine and fenegran(not sure of spelling). It is interesting you mentioned head injuries as potential causes. From childhood to now being 63, I have had multiple head injuries with one leading to a concussion and broken jaw from playing mens softball and another from falling about 7 foot out of a tree onto my head when I was around 9. LOL

Fenegran is a life saver for vertigo!!! I ran out of meclizine once and found out the Bonine is the same thing but over the counter. I always have that on hand for travelling, so was so thankful to discover that.

If your BPPV makes you nauseous like it does for me, then I strongly recommend a motion-sickness pill about an hour before doing the Epley (or other) maneuvers. That way, you can get through it without vomiting. These maneuvers have always worked for me, and I've had BPPV many times over the last two decades -- usually brought on by dehydration, too much salt, or too much caffeine. I have good luck with OTC motion-sickness pills (like Bonine) where the active ingredient is meclizine HCL (25mg). If you have liver or kidney problems, then always ask your doctor about meds -- even OTC ones.

Vomiting is sometimes a common response and important for us to witness. If you take a motion sickness pill then you eliminate a symptom that could be beneficial for your Therapist to see when it occurs. It could change your treatment.
@wudgee Жыл бұрын
That’s a great idea, thanks. Since I’m not going to get a therapist to observe, this is great advice. I might have to try a patch first because I’ve already vomited twice even before starting the procedure.

Thanks guys! I’ve been dealing with this for several weeks and I just keep hoping it will go away. My PT has done this to me before and I keep avoiding going back to him but think I need to. It just makes me so nauseous so I put it off!🤢
@MermaidSerena3 жыл бұрын
It does make you nauseous. When I did it, I needed the whole day to recover and take it easy. I recommend keeping your head straight for 48 hours afterwards. 24 hours wasn’t enough for me to let them settle. I feel like I should do the maneuver again but am to scared to have the worst resurface. So I leave it, but it works

There are vitamins for "Ear ringing " that can help the symptoms. It alleviated the lightheaded symptoms for me.
@teresacox25113 жыл бұрын
@Debbie Greenfield, there are lots of videos here on KZbin that walk you through these maneuvers at home. They are very simple and you wouldn’t have to go to PT. Just ask a friend or family member to be with you to help out and keep an eye on you. My sweet little momma suffered from vertigo and I took her to an ear nose and throat doctor and he diagnosed her with vertigo and gave us a print out of these maneuvers and from then on when she would start to have these dizzy spells, I would help her do these maneuvers and she’d be back on her feet in minutes.

Hi Bob & Brad👋🏼 I had BPPV 2 years ago, upon waking up one morning. It gave me such a scare…thought I was having a stroke! Thankfully I was able to see a wonderful P/T who helped me do these exercises. I was cured in 3 sessions! BTW, I believe a recent chiropractic adjustment to my neck was the cause (Dr had to adjust my neck 3 times in succession before it popped), needless to say I quit seeing him! Thanks for the great video!
