In this episode of Hebrew Voices, Understanding the Difficult Words of Yeshua, Nehemia Gordon talks with Dr. Roy Blizzard, a pioneer in understanding the Jewish roots of the New Testament. Dr. Blizzard explains how one momentous trip to Israel in 1966, turned his outlook on Christianity upside down and started him on a new path of discovery. Dr. Blizzard also shares what it was like to be one of the first excavators of the Temple Mount, how we know Yeshua spoke Hebrew, and confirms the name of God is Yehovah.

I love the way Professor looks at Nehemia's eyes. He is just so happy, and honest, and a believer, and he knows he is blesses. I've never seen such a 'childish' gaze on an elder's face! This is what you reap if you sow on Yehovah's word!

My biggest revelation in my life up till now was the importance of understanding the scriptures with the Hebrew mind set. Between Nehemai Gordon Keith Johnson and Joseph Dumond I learned more than I ever thought possible. You all are men I look up to greatly. Thanks for the awesome instruction I have gotten from your works. May Yehovah bless you in your ministries. Shalom

You should be careful of who you listen to. This man Nehemia Gordon is NOT a Christian - He said and I quote "I am not a Christian, nor am I a Messianic Jew". So what is he then? He is one of those who can't get into heaven - he is a deceiver.

I don't trust him as far as I can throw him [For such men are false apostles, deceitful workers, masquerading as apostles of Christ. And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. It is not surprising, then, if his servants masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will correspond to their actions.…] 2 Corinthians 11v13-15

@@jesussaves1875 I understand where you are coming from but remember what Romans 11 says.......God gave his ppl a spirit of slumber so they will not see (truth) which opened it up for Gentiles to be grafted in. God also tells us not boast about our (gentiles) new found opportunity to salvation. For one day he will lift the veil and his ppl shall see the truth. I believe Gordon may be one of these Jews who can't see Christ right now.

@@jesussaves1875 Nehemiah is a Jew who is still looking for his Messiah (Christ), where as Dr Roy Blizzard claims to be a believer. Neither claims to be an apostle of Christ and he certainly does claim to be an angle of light. He is deceiving no one. He speaks the truth from a Jewish perspective. Jehovah, or Yehovah, is a name never revealed from God, a name never known in Hebrew. We know this due to the fact that Jews added vowels from words like: Adonai, Eloah, and Elohim onto the consonantal name of God, YHWH (in Hebrew Yod-Hey-Waw-Hey). This was done to prevent the readers in the synagogues from saying God’s actual name, as the Hebrew words in the Hebrew Scriptures did not have vowels, so when the reader came upon the name of God, and saw the vowels added, he knew to say, “Adonai,” instead of inadvertently trying to pronounce the Name (HaShem). From Eloah, the vowels of e-o-a caused the concoction of YeHoWaH, or Yehovah. This became the Latin Iehovah, and with the letter “J” added to the English alphabet by the 17th century this euphonious name was changed to Jehovah. Jehovah, or Yehovah, has a sinister meaning, as Je-hovah, specifically “hovah”, means ruin, mischief, and calamity (see Strong’s Dictionary of Bible Words # 1943). There is a Karaite Jew, who relies on Medieval sources to propagate the false name Yehovah. And yet the Jews have been adding vowels to the Tetragrammaton, the four letters of God’s name [YHWH] since, or before, the 11th century. This practice of the Jews adding vowels to the Tetragrammaton [fancy name for “the four consonant letters” of God’s actual name], which caused yet another variation, the vowels of Elohim. This led to e-o-i added to the Tetragrammaton to make YeHoWiH (see Strong’s Dictionary of Bible Words # 3069). Many religious leaders of the church, pastors, teachers, and priests know that Jehovah, or Yehovah, are false names, and yet they will stand by their traditions, and YAHSHUA warned us about them: “He answered and said to them, ‘Well did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written: This people honors Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me. And in vain they worship Me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’ For laying aside the commandment of God, you hold the tradition of men…’ He said to them, ‘All too well you reject the commandment of God, that you may keep your tradition’” (Mark 7:6-9). The vowel point under the Hebrew letter Yod, with the vowel called qamets (a for T), not the vowel sheva (e for :). That is YAH not Yeh. The command to Joseph, was, “...you shall call His name YAHSHUA…” (Matthew 1:21) “Jesus”, is a name never revealed by God. This name came into being through a process of linguistic evolution. Man took it upon themselves to transliterate the common Aramaic name Yeshua to the Greek Iesous. Iesous conformed to the Latin to become Iesus, and this was up to the year 1632 CE. the unrevealed common English name for Christ. After the year 1632, the name of our Lord changed yet again to Jesus. Why does it matter? Because the apostle Peter testified to the Sanhedrin that: “Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12). When the apostle Peter testified in the name of YAHSHUA, the Sanhedrin reacted strongly. “Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated and untrained men, they marveled. And they realized that they had been with YAHSHUA. And seeing the man who had been healed standing with them, they could say nothing against it. But when they had commanded them to go aside out of the council, they conferred among themselves, saying, ‘What shall we do to these men? For, indeed, that a notable miracle has been done through them is evident to all who dwell in Jerusalem, and we cannot deny it. But so that it spreads no further among the people, let us severely threaten them, that from now on they speak to no man in this name.’ So they called them and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of YAHSHUA. But Peter and John answered and said to them, ‘Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you more than to God, you judge. For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard’” (Acts 4:13-20). The name of YAHSHUA: Forbidden! Because the Jews heard “the name which is above every name,” YAH in His name! The apostle Paul on the road to Damascus encountered YAHSHUA, and he asked, “Who are You, Lord?” And in the Hebrew language, the Lord tells him, “I am YAHSHUA…” (see Acts 26:12-15). We know that the apostle Paul heard “the name which is above every name,” YAH, because he wrote this: “Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of YAHSHUA every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that YAHSHUA the Christ is LORD, to the glory of God the Father” (Philippians 2:9-11). Every language is to know the one name given under heaven by which we must be saved, and there is no rejecting this name, YAHSHUA! Many have said, “It is not about the name. It is about the Person.” According to the Gospel, this is false. As the Savior said, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God’” (John 3:16-18). You stand condemned, because you have not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God! “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name…” (John 1:12). Halleluyah, Praise YAH, Praise YAHSHUA! “If you will not hear, and if you will not take it to heart, to give glory to My name,’ Says the Lord of hosts, ‘I will send a curse upon you, and I will curse your blessings. Yes, I have cursed them already, because you do not take it to heart’” (Malachi 2:2).

I have that book by Dr. Blizzard on the difficult words of Jesus but I still learned something from this video! In this case it is beautiful to hear Dr. Blizzard pronounce God's name as Yehováh and also to learn that in Acts 2:2 they were not just in a random house and then suddenly all these people from every nation show up! They were in the temple, THE House (of Yehováh) on Pentecost! That's why there were people from every nation hearing their various languages and that's why they could all fit into one "house"! I never understood that before but now it makes perfect sense. Thank you Nehemia Gordon and Dr. Blizzard!

Beautiful video. Being a Jewish believer my day of salvation of being able to think with the Bible began when finding my pastor who taught from The Hebrew, Chaldean, Aramaic, and Greek texts. What is being said in this video hits home. My pastor was a Gentile,. But, always did his best to teach the Jewish historical perspective and background.. Otherwise? Ani lo yodea Ivrit.

Some of the very best dialogues and commentaries have been between some of my favorite Jewish friends and Gentile believers. This wonderful interview between nehemia Gordon and dr. Roy blizzard is one of a number of enlightening and inspirational teachings. Another that nehemia has brought to us is the dialogue with dr. Brad young very inspirational and edifying. I love Ben Shapiro to he was in our city this last week. The one conversation that top the list for me a year ago, was with dr. Dennis Prager and Pastor Rob McCoy, on Dennis Prager fireside chat episode 188. Pull up a chair and hold your seat for a truly great blessing! I have listened to it numerous times with tears running down my face. To think that God almighty through the shepherding of his beloved Son Yeshua, bringing to fulfillment John chapter 10 versus 14 through 18. Yeshua also has spoken in John's gospel chapter 4 verses 21 through 24 about true worship that is pleasing to the father. He also made clear that salvation is of the Jews! We Gentile believers have been blessed to be miraculously grafted in to the Olive Tree! I praise God for you nehemia as the light of the world is shining on you!

I don’t understand the amazement around 5 year old Jewish children learning about God. Children in church go to Sunday school and learn about God and Jesus and the Bible as 3 and 4 year olds. I knew bible verses before kindergarten. Had heard so many sermons by the time I was five I can’t count them. I don’t see how they see this as something unique to Jewish culture.
@levi7187
@levi7187 4 жыл бұрын
Thats because you do not understand the context or the circumstances by which Jews at an early age had to learn and memorize the Torah/Tanakh throughout the ages but the truth is observant Jewish parents start teaching and reciting The Torah to their children while they are still in the womb before they are even born. It's amazing and unique to Jewish culture because in Bible times the whole world was pagan and the Jews as a people and a nation chose YHVH as their only God at Sinai and His word as their way of life and as a result set a standard and example for you to follow, what is even more amazing is that most Jews did not have access to a bible because Torah scrolls were very difficult to come by due to cost and labor (the printing press was not invented yet) in fact the New Testament states that Jesus's own disciples were ignorant uneducated men (Acts 4:13 KJV) very likely because they came from underprivileged families so in many cases these things had to be handed down orally so people had to memorize the entire Torah and the prophets at an early age not for a bible verse contest or self edification but rather to preserve the word of God for the next generation; they did not have iPhones and the internet to access unlimited ancient texts and unlimited digital access to world libraries and podcast and youtube sermons as you do today. On top of that they were being persecuted and harassed every day and often times killed for simply mentioning the name of God let alone recite his word in fact the name of G-d was illegal to mention in most places in Israel during Jesus' time and Jesus's own disciples did not know Gods name he had to teach it to them (John 17:26) a ban put in place by Antiochus Epiphanes IV in Israel for 150 years before Jesus's arrival under penalty of death... this story has repeated itself throughout history for the last thousands of years so yes It's Totally amazing and miraculous that the Jews managed to preserve the word of God for you to enjoy today, while you sit back behind your desktop show them ungrateful resentment.

God said, "HaYAH Ashar HaYAH," not ehyeh asher ehyeh. It is Halleluyah, not halleluyeh. Jehovah is a name never revealed from God.

Thoroughly enjoyed the video. One thing to consider is that Jesus was a Jew that lived under Mosaic law and the OT. All of that changed at His death and resurrection especially at Pentecost. Now salvation and eternal life comes by grace through faith in Him and the gospel. Also, the end of Daniel's prophetic 69th week ended with His Earthly ministry. The 70th week still to come. Praying Nehemiah comes to salvation in Jesus!

Bride of Christ Salvation and Life has always come from grace thru faith. The law(torah) was not a means for salvations but instructions on how to live a rightous life. Deut 4:8 The torah was about blessings and curses in this life never about eternal life. Daniel the holy prophet of Yah will recieve his portion because of his faithfulness not his observance of the torah for he was in exile and didn't do all the torah commanded.
@brideofchrist9430
@brideofchrist9430 6 жыл бұрын
abdul lopez I agree with what you're saying about OT Torah being instructions for blessings in this Earthly life. My comment about Daniel was just a side note about prophetic timing. However, I'm talking about the state of humans being sinners that fall short of being in the eternal presence of the glory of God. The wages of sin is death. Jesus said we must be born again in spirit. OT saints were counted as righteous by faith in the redeemer to come. Jesus is our kinsman redeemer. When we accept, believe on His death and resurrection the Holy Spirit comes to reside in us, seals us and we are born again and our sins forgiven by Jesus. The separation between us and our Our perfect God is resolved. It is the only path God provided for us allowing us to attain eternal life in His presence. John. 3:16. For God so loved the world He sent His only begotten Son....

Nehemia, do you know the work of Dr. Lewis Keizer (PhD in New Testament Studies, Graduate Theological Union)? He starts with the Greek NT and translates "backwards" into Aramaic. Since Dr. Keizer knows Greek, Hebrew, Coptic, Aramaic, etc., and is familiar with intertestamental period and beyond, he also translates Aramaic and Hebrew idioms and references, etc., that the Greek NT authors would have not been familiar with. He has videos on YT and books on Amazon.

Question for both of you if ever read. The Vav Waw Debate. The problem those who use the Waw have studied back to Otiot Hebrew (Proto Canaanite - The Hebrew before Tower of Babel) and I don't understand how they came to a Waw sound. They cover how the Waw is from a Double U (U U ) Due to many older languages had the Double U and no V but could it have been a Double V (V V)? depending on how one would write a W it could look like either. The Otiot Beyt also is used to make the V sound. This is Similar to how some Christian Traditional Pastors teach that they couldn't say "SH" sound, but in reality they didn't have a Letter(s) that could be used to Translate the SH sound of Yahoshua. Hard to believe Greek Librarians and Parents couldn't do the universal sound of a request someone to be quiet. Those who use the Vav usually are just using the present Modern Hebrew which is called Babylonian Hebrew. The Otiot Beyt is the Babylonian Pey with a quarter turn. Couple other letters from Otiot has been moved to another letter. So when they look at like Paleo Hebrew and say "Look a Vav". But that is using a backwards saying what it is, because they grew up with that letter as Vav due to that is what modern Hebrew says it is. Nehemia and others have shown that the Rabbis of Judaism has been hiding the right Pronunciation of YHWH / YHVH. Today's Modern Hebrew is also mixed with a few different Yiddish added to it. Which makes me think that Deutsche / German Yiddish brought the "Vav" sound. Can't use grammar or spelling rules to say what sound a letter makes. Zeph 3:9 states we won't be speaking the Perfect Hebrew until the Millennial reign so none of us are really close to perfect Hebrew. Lastly we Know Abraham spoke Hebrew. He came out of Nimrods area after the Towel of Babel scattering of 70 languages. One would think Nimrod's Language would be the "One" Language they all spoke. If that is true, then Hebrew would be the Oldest Language?

Dead to Self - I believe God spoke to the Universe, and Adam and Eve in Hebrew. I also believe that there are those who are Hebrew scholars and can verify the existence of the VaV since the beginning; therefore, promoters of the WaW are antisemitic/anti-Hebraic/antiTorah...😢

I think there's enough evidence to surmise that Jesus spoke Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek. The region he was from had high Greek traffic. He was, of course, studied in the temple, so he spoke Hebrew. But Aramaic was the common folk language. Being how He was ministering to Jews, Romans and Greeks alike, it is not a stretch to think a highly intelligent man (who was God) could get the hang of different languages. He may have spoken Greek as well, as he did converse with Roman soldiers.
