I loved this song when it first came out and like "Teenage Kicks," it's regularly on one of my playlists. There was a lot of "criticism," about Punk being just thrashing on a few chords, but this is a smart song, particularly the "inversion" of the guitar riff at the start of each verse.. I never get fed up of great songs like this! :O)

I've been thinking about this. In my opinion, the only thing that comes close to the opening of this is 'Tommy Gun' by The Clash. That's pretty tight and punchy too.

Chris McKee Agree 💯 mate, The Undertones were a Magnificent Band, saw them four times, typical Top Of The Pops braindead audience 90% of them didn't have a clue about music, just wanted to be seen on TOTP 🤮
@manfredwilliams38602 жыл бұрын
@@stevebowness9435 Indeed, they truly were absolutely Magnificent, as you say. I had the pleasure of seeing them five times, including their final headlining performance at the Lyceum in 1983. Pure, unadulterated, perfect pop.

@@manfredwilliams3860 Totally Agree 💯 seen them four times, all in Liverpool, Eric,s Club, Liverpool University 1979, Liverpool Empire May 1980, and finally The Royal Court Liverpool 1983, one of the best live Bands I've ever seen 💯

@@stevebowness9435 I saw them for the first time in May 1979 at the Locarno Ballroom, Coventry, and I wasn't easily impressed. Indeed, I had seen Led Zeppelin, The Clash, The Jam and many others on that very stage. So when these scruffy kids ambled on, I thought, go on then, show me what you can do! Four bars into 'Get Over You', I was hooked lined and fucking sinkered!!

I first saw them do this on one of those Morning Shows. Love It from the opening Chord. Rushed out to try and Buy It. Could not get It anywhere. I went Into a Record Collector's shop just on the off chance. And He said I not only got that one but I have others by them too. I bought the Lot plus the 12" of True Confessions. These were all on the small Irish Label (Not Sire) This would be around 1977 to 1978. I still have them and been told they are worth a lot of Money now. Thanks for uploading possibly the only surviving film of this Classic.

November 2016. I pick up a poppy someone has lost. I start humming the intro to this without knowing where it's going. I mean, it was the theme tune to "Weekending", wasn't it? Then I realise. "You've dropped your poppy You've dropped your poppy Why don't you pick it. (Up)". Shows this was a hit in early November.
