Lovely footage, they are looking great! No more Medakas? Never problems with floating pellets with these guys?
@Keithmeister94 жыл бұрын
I still have lots of yellow Medakas, finally some Miyuki also, just waiting on them to mature and lay eggs. Some goldfish have issues with swim bladder when i feed too much whether its floating or sinking pellets. But 99% I feed wheat germ based floating koi/goldfish pellets. But for the most part no issues with floating pellets, it's been their main diet for years.

how do you keep your water so clear?
@Keithmeister94 жыл бұрын
I run 2 filters, i overfilter and it keeps the pond full of beneficial bacteria. The plants really do absorb the excess nutrients. I have to trim the plants and roots often since they grow so fast.

You used to have ricefish with your fancy goldfish. Is there a reason why you don't have them housed together anymore? It seems the ricefish are fast enough to stay away from the goldfish with good hiding places... beautiful set up!

Keith - this is absolutely amazing. I had fancy goldfish (in a 75 gallon tank) when i was growing up and for the longest time i have been thinking about a pond with fancy goldfish, and get the kids excited about these fish. This has inspired me to get over the inertia and do it ! Thanks for these wonderful videos.
@Keithmeister94 жыл бұрын
Thank you, my kids love it! It does not have to be expensive. This is just a big plastic tub / preformed pond. Just add filtration, plants, and sunlight and it runs itself! Easier to maintain than an aquarium. I wish you well in your new pond project 👍 keep the pond covered from predators
@mohammadtahaafzal4 жыл бұрын
Great. Yeah I think the local tractor supply has the stock tank. Any recommendations for the filter/pump ? Amazon has tonnes of them with contradicting reviews. What you have demonstratively works ! I can follow it to a T
@Keithmeister94 жыл бұрын
I use this on my ponds, it's pricey right now since it's the beginning of summer but i have bought it as cheap as $45 and paired it with a $20 pump from amazon. The downside is it's a gravity filter and difficult to hide, i use garden plants to hide it. It's easy to clean. Works great on ponds up to 500 gallons. If you look in my videos you can see some of it partially hidden in the background. www.amazon.com/dp/B0002APPUS/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_i_sdQWEbQMG2CAP
@Keithmeister94 жыл бұрын
I also have a filter similar to this on my bigger pond. Comes with a UV light and pump, also easy to clean with a turn of a handle. Make sure to get a pump mesh barrier bag to prevent fish from getting sucked in the pump. Keep in mind I'm not a professional. Just a hobbyist sharing his experience 😁 www.amazon.com/dp/B07Y1FYJGC/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_i_fDQWEbVHPPJHS

hi keith love your videos and pond, i wanted to get a outdoor pond started with orandas, my concern is will orandas survive in a pond thorugh winter. I'm from the UK and we can get cold weather and snow in winter. thank you.
@Keithmeister94 жыл бұрын
Hi Shy Ali, probably best to bring it indoors especially where you live. Comets can do well in very cold water but fancies can be prone to swim bladder issues in colder water. Goldfish do go on hibernation during very cold winters. If you plan to keep it outdoors, i highly suggest comets, wakins, shubunkins. I hope this helps 👍
@mohammadsatrio37544 жыл бұрын
What brand of pellet do you provide for them ? They look so bulky, cool body form
@Keithmeister94 жыл бұрын
Just random koi/goldfish pellets, nothing fancy. Just maintain clean water, sun, and fish also graze on algae. Overfilter when possible

@@Keithmeister9 do you feed them with blood worms? I think the plants and algae are part of their diet? I'm convinced that keeping fancy goldfish on an outdoor pond is better than clean glass tank... I used to keep ranchus and lionheads but they live no longer than a year, then I got a clay bowl pond placed outdoor filled with comets for 2 years and they're still alive until now. No proper biological filter, just small water pump with a piece of filter mat covering the water intake... I'm thinking the clay bowl itself might the biological media itself, or are comets generally more hardy? 😵
@Keithmeister94 жыл бұрын
I never feed them blood worms, that would be too expensive lol. Mainly koi/goldfish wheat germ pellets and thats about it, they do forage on algae. I'm surprised they don't eat the plants. Comets are fairly hardy fish. In Japan, goldfish are kept in pots with floating plants with no filtration. But if you live in warmer/hotter climates, i highly suggest filtration with lots of water movement. 👍
@crysed78974 жыл бұрын
What filter media are you using.. Lava rock/pumice, bio balls?
