Unearthing Hidden Treasures: Epic Metal Detecting Adventure On South Carolina's Coastal Sea Islands!

Today we metal detect sea islands in coastal South Carolina. Southern Capt'n Billy invited me down on a metal detecting and camping trip. Northern Capt'n Billy was also invited and together with some other friends we explored islands and searched with our metal detectors old homesites including one that has yielded several Spanish silver hammered coins and an Arabic silver hammered coin in the past. We found many very interesting finds including coins, military buttons, colonial artifacts, and fun.

That return cruise through the inlet reminds me of my undergrad internship in North Inlet Georgetown, SC. All those marshes look the same so you could be anywhere between Murrell's and the ACE Basin. So many islands, and so little time. I would love to have had a boat when I lived in Charleston. I am a sheller but I always wanted to find a big Meg tooth on the barrier islands.

Sand burrs, found on the shore from Florida to New Jersey possibly even more north. I hate those things. Once the start to dry out, the ends curl like a hook and if you step on them in bare feet while at the beach, the thorns point in different directions and they are miserable and painful to remove. Ocean City MD has then on that dune line plus some man properties next to the beach have them. Bad for dogs also.

Good to see Northern Captain Billy, and Southern Captain Billy together Milliken has the fastest swing as he is walking down that track. I was in Boston in June and had half a mind to look up Captain Billy and buy him a pint, such a great character. I am also 'Andrew's Adventures'. The tool you found earlier in the video was used to tap hemp cord with pitch, in between the planks of an ocean going vessel

14:36 seemed like it was a hand made morticing tool. Looked like the back side might have been altered to have a wooden handle. I didn't see it in the wrap up. Did you keep it? Buttons, coins, bullets are fine but I get excited when you find things in the iron range: Hatchets, knives, gun locks, strikers, betty lamps, bayonets, guns, and old tools like this one.

Those wedge cast iron tools look like a tool that is used to caulk boat seams. They are used to pound material like wool or cotton along with something like pine tar.
