Take a ride in Mobileye's autonomous car, where the camera-only system maneuvers through busy intersections, around multi-lane roundabouts, and in other tricky situations that would challenge even the most adept human drivers.
Throughout the video, we share how our technology and driving philosophy make for assertive, yet respectful, driving.
Our sensing display gives insight into our state-of-the-art detection, and the interior view of the vehicle shows that our safety driver doesn't intervene once.
No human intervention, no editing - just Mobileye's autonomous car at work.
To hear more from our CEO, Amnon Shashua, read his editorial in Medium: bit.ly/2XzV3ll
This drive builds upon our previous video, published at CES 2020, where we showed you a 22-minute ride in Mobileye's AV: • Unedited Ride in Mobil...

Those situations happen every time in real world, and at least in Sweden, there is no right to pass. You actually have no rights at all, only obligations. Everyone have the obligations to cooperate, make it easier for everyone and to avoid accidents, so if the vehicle did not stop for Waymo, the vehicle was at fault since they had plenty of time to stop. And Waymo might have been at fault for not yielding, but that is always a tricky one if there is plenty of room, and sometimes you make a bad decision and then others are still obliged to help out and make it good again. Remember that humans are pretty bad at driving a car. Like here, as an example, driving our from our street - NO ONE from the left yields when i am to go out. NO ONE! Even though they are obliged to yeald for anyone coming from the right (if signs to not say otherwise).

14:22 look at that steering wheel ! Also, at 13:00 it had an easy opportunity to switch to the left lane. From the extended crane it was clear that the truck wasn't going anywhere. 19:59 car behind is tired of all the slow driving and stopping. 20:30 can't keep up with a bus. 22:27 another car passes. Overall, the AV is too slow and timid, and often slows down on empty roads for no apparent reason. At 24:45, it could have stayed closer to car in front, and leave more room for the bus.
@langstev92
@langstev92 3 жыл бұрын
I don't see problems in any of the things you listed. The car made the "safest" and arguably the best decisions in all of those situations. 14:22 is weird who cares about the steering wheel as long as the car doesn't move. In 13:00 the car is evaluating the situation similar to how a human right... without hazard lights on you don't know for sure the car is in fact stopped (in fact in the front facing camera it's not even immediately obvious the crane belongs to the truck) like 90% of humans would pull up behind a stopped truck only to realize the truck was in fact stopped. In 19:59 this is COMMON driving culture in Israel, Middle East, and most of Asia this has nothing to do with being tired of driving too slowly. I don't see any issue with 20:30. In 22:27 again, this is the safest decision to wait for the car to fully merge into the lane before you drive forward (in fact this is the smartest decision as a human would have to brake anyway as the car has not fully entered the lane and accelerated yet). 24:45 why would you stay closer to the car in front that literally makes no sense? Rear-end is 100% the fault of the driver doing the rear ending... it's common that people leave more room for the car in front. If anyone is at fault it's the driver tailing him.
@pianobench6319
@pianobench6319 3 жыл бұрын
@@langstev92 I think 14:22 is very interesting. The system must be adjusting itself on whether or not to provide the large bus on it's right room to turn. I think many drivers nervously adjust and readjust often in order to accommodate large vehicles on the road. But the MobileEye system must have had to obey the laws and not enter the pedestrian crosswalk as that would mean it would have to encroach on the pedestrian path potentially endangering any pedestrians. A normal driver would have took that risk and entered the crosswalk as there were no oncoming pedestrians that we could see. Very cool and exciting to see !

19m59 the vehicle stops when clearly it didn't need to (and the vehicle behind overtook at this point) - it's trying to stay within it's lane too rigidly. happens again at 21m10s - too rigidly staying on the right ride of the road when the approaching lane is empty and could be used.

20:00 it's waiting too see incoming traffic (it was shadowed by bus in front for a while) - better safe than sorry. at 21:10 again better safe than sorry, openpilot&tesla mostly using pure neural network approach (i.e. learning to drive same as human), Mobileye uses it's strict mathematical model, which mostly based on road rules, so will not enter on dangerous side of road without very important reason (for example non moving obstacle). waymo uses strict safety net and within it neural network, in some situation it could ignore markings if safety net programmed in such situation to allow it. i.e. don't expect Mobileye drive like human do, but i think safety is more important for now (and safety is hitting Tesla the most - crashing into static trucks look very stupid in 2020).

The video is presented at x2 play speed to hide the fact the AV is moving in a " chilled " speed . It rarely goes over 40 Km/h even on multi lane streets almost absent of cars . So either the "driving computer" is having hard time to handle the AV at over 40-45 Km/h open road or this speed was matched for the drone to follow the AV . It's unlikely the drone operator use the drone in sport mode for this mission . So 40-50 Km/h was the speed limit for the drone to keep up with the AV.

There are significant differences, as the commenter stated Mobileye uses high definition maps which brings up the question how you create these maps for the whole world and what happens if something changes in reality. Furthermore the car seems to need to constantly receive this HD map data, which makes it sensitive to connectivity interruptions, while Tesla has the approach that the car can do the job on its own solely by driving and evaluating the driving situation. The Mobileye system is quite advanced, but of course they pick a test route and light and wheather conditions which fit their system, we only could compare the system to Teslas FSD beta, if we would let drive the cars the same routes under the same conditions. Furthermore Tesla has its system already in hundreds of thousand of cars while Mobiley, if they plan to bring it into a production car of a car manufacturer they need still years till you can buy it.

@@itaiperes9635 She where is the source for your claim that you can HD map big city in in 3 days and a whole country in a week. By the way this statement in itself makes absolutely no sense, as a whole country usually contains much more roads than roughly two big cities (6 days for two cities and 7 for a whole country). @@thebgEntertainment1 no lidar is used in this setup, and Amnon Shashua has said many times that the mapping date is a different system that is used in redundancy to the camera system. You compare your interpreted data with your recorded data, then your system makes decisions on which assets from each are the more accurate ones to best make decisions off of. It's a safer, more robust system, and works, that's why Tesla has started doing it this year too. They are producing their own hd maps using the fleet of already driving tesla's, just like mobileye has been doing for a while now with it's OEM fleets.
