Well, it depends. First of all, those are not videos from independent people. We have seen the difference with Tesla as well: the Tesla videos about the demos were absolutely perfect. Then you see some real life demos and the reality is much different. Furthermore, Tesla is achieving the same results using only cameras, which means a system that is far less expensive and have less sensors that can malfunction. I think Mobileye is doing an impressive job, but I don't think it's better than Tesla, at least not yet.

@@diegofanesi2987 dude this old version is performing better than tesla right now in 2022. Last video of tesla I saw in New York. It could not even navigate a traffic cone in the middle of the road. Also 99% of tesla tests are in situations with little traffic and on high ways where there are almost never any complicated situations. Through a traffic cone at a tesla and it gives up. And no it's not performing the "same". It's miles behind this. The Chinese guys have even crazier traffic to deal with and also out performs tesla.

The driving done here isnt perfect but a lot of people, especially not New Yorkers would have trouble driving these roads especially if theyve never been on them before. Also notice how many Tesla's are in the video? Zero. Notice how many other car manufacturers are?.. Will there be a version where there is commentary later? Good commentary that gives context can be helpful and enjoyable. It doesn't need to be continuous commentary. If I recall, on other no-intervention Mobileye videos, like for Jerusalem and Las Vegas, there was some background music and some commentary interspersed to help the viewer get better context on what was occurring, edge cases, challenges, etc. I'm very impressed with what Mobileye is doing with vehicle automation, and I appreciate their gradual, safety first approach. L4 city by city robo-taxis with a good back-up plan when the car can't handle things is PLENTY for an intermediate solution, especially when the cars get clearly better than human drivers. I also think the crowd-sourced continuous HD mapping updates to deal with things like volatile construction areas, accidents, etc. is just a fantastic idea.

Some things was good and some things where fare from good. But the most disappointing was that there was not ONE left turn taken or attempt to take one. Especially unprotected left turns that are regarded as the most difficult is missing by a long shot here. Since there are no attempt to do it I guess this means that the system is not capable too do it. There was very few right turns as well and some of them was really bad executed. Much straight ahead driving and some of it was very good. Sometimes a bit too aggressive and there was a couple of times the driver should have intervened. The good thing here is that it shows that vision alone (with some sensors, but no Lidar) is probably the right strategy for autonomous driving forward.

Also, do you plan on mapping the entire world? Or will this drive anywhere you put it without pre-made maps for the area? Sound like you need crowd-sourced data to make a map that your car then drives in the known map.... Does this meet the L5 requirement to just go anywhere? Not if it's not pre-mapped right? But lidar with AV-map helps more. FMCW-lidar that Mobileye will use, tells also real time speed of the objects like the speed of oncoming cars. @@1flash3571 they can go outside of mapped areas with exactly the same approach as Tesla`s (AI/Vision). Its just that they have HD maps in addition to 2 completely separate systems for redundancy, #1 Vision #2 Radar/Lidar, both with support of HD maps. Tesla has cameras, and thats it. Tesla are NEVER going to get approval for full autonomy with that system. Never, anywhere. Occlusion of one camera and the whole system falls apart. Mobileye will have a system just for AI/vision (like Tesla), but thats not intended for Level 5.

Maybe something like that in the back seat, since they are doing robotaxis first. Maybe also an alternate view with the street-map showing the planned route and the street names.

I've seen several mistakes in first half of video (mostly skipped second part, except double parked trucks). But there's two things it constantly does. Stopping too far from stop line at crossroads or from vehicle in front. Sometimes it corrects itself like 20sec later which is good, but it should correct after 1-2 seconds, or even before it arrives to zero, and crawl 1-2 meters more. The other thing is a bit concerning, though real drivers do same unfortunately... It turns right from 3-lane street to 3-lane street , and is in rightmost lane, but either completely turns to middle lane, or swirls through mid lane until getting to rightmost again. That mid lane is someone else's space, and should be corrected. Otherwise, compared to other systems, this is already acceptable, and comparable to a cautious or bit timid drivers. Only real fail was passing those double parked trucks, clearly other drivers reacted, which made a slightly dangerous situation for everyone, including opposite direction traffic. But they survived :)

at 5:36 it moves forward just before another vehicle stops behind it (see blue screen inside car), I wonder if it's intentional or why, interesting. Though it doesn't correct at 11:00 even though there's a vehicle behind it so maybe that was just a coincidence.

As far as I know, the EyeQ5 is 10 watts. If you have 2 of them for redundancy, thats 20 watts, plus cameras and peripheral electronics could raise that to 40 watts to 80 watts. Adding in some fudge factor, we'll just say its 100 watts. At 100 watts, it would consume 0.1 kWh every hour, so that would be a reduction of 0.35 miles every hour the system is turned on. If you are traveling at an average speed of 60 miles per hour, the system might decrease range to 59.65 miles. That's about a 0.5% change in mileage, which sounds pretty good to me. Even if the system ran at 200 watts, it would be a 1% reduction at 60 mph highway driving. 400 W would be 2% etc. Of course at lower speeds, the overhead would be more significant.

@@henrikrasmussen9598 Intel Mobileye are in a different league to Tesla. I watch all the Tesla FSD Beta videos and while it looks good in some scenarios it is fundamentally flawed even in the latest release v9.0: - It is still incapable of making most unprotected turns safety. - While assessing oncoming traffic at junctions, it will commonly protrude into lanes it is turning into, creating a partial obstruction. Even worse, it will sometimes stop in the middle of an intersection or do it so slowly that it becomes a hazard. - Has had many instances where in confusion with its navigation it will drive directly toward stationary objects, such as barricades, cones, bridge pillars, or even other cars. - It often gets stuck behind other vehicles and doesn't know how to get around them. Sometimes it does attempt to go around when it would be inappropriate or dangerous to do so. - Frequently chooses an incorrect lane such as a turn lane when in fact it is driving straight on. - It is unable to navigate many roadwork situations. - Many times it waits too long before getting into the correct lane, and then realizing its error, will often make a hazardous maneuver to correct itself. - It is totally incapacitated if it encounters large crowds of people. - It often stops meters backs from the stop line. - Regularly doesn't indicate before changing lanes or making turns. - It struggles to be assertive and change lanes in heavier traffic. - On joining fast lanes from a junction it fails to accelerate fast enough to match the existing traffic. - It cannot deal with snow. - Fails on some extreme road curves and mistakenly treats some abrupt contours as an intersection. - It usually cannot deal with parking lots. - It cannot reverse. - In situations of inclement weather it does not lower its speed to take into account the additional driving difficulty. - In narrow streets with parked cars and space enough for only one lane of traffic, it cannot anticipate or negotiate with other road users. - Can have problems with hilly roads. As the car approaches the crest of a hill it doesn't slow down as a human would, even though its forward vision is obscured. - It cannot recognize police, or hand signals of those assisting traffic. - The "Summon" feature is not usable other than as a quick party trick. - The automatic parking facility occassionally fails to perceive parking spaces at the vehicle's current position. - Lastly, as we are fully aware, this is not claimed to be a door-to-door system. It would take a lot of development before it could realistically drop someone off or find a parking space by itself. Personally I think it's years before a genuinely safe version of FSD will be available that is fully autonomous.
