Hearing a dad say, "I think you've done everything you need to do." Is so comforting and reassuring. Knowing that someone acknowledges that you've done enough so far feels so good, especially coming from someone close to your heart.

I’m in the exact same position as you. I’m a ‘96 baby, graduated from college, currently unemployed, and living with my parents. I realized after college that I want a serious career in music, so that means taking a different route than what I majored in. I’m so happy you made this video because it makes me realize there are so many of us out there. Luckily, my parents are extremely understanding too. I pay for everything myself so I know that helps. It also helps me feel more independent and better about myself haha. Your parents are exactly like mine too! Dad very outspoken about living out my dreams while mom wants me to be happy lol. Thank you so much for this! It’s a perfect reflection of my family dynamic and current situation ❤️💜 you don’t know how much I needed to see this!

Who else is an unemployed millennial?! This is so relatable. Also, my parents rag on me for not having a house and kids like they had at my age and I'm just like, lol ok so I went to college and worked for 5 years and now the pandemic. Literally did everything "society" told me to do and still... our generation is struggling.

I'm an unemployed zillennial. I guess my parents are understanding as my mom finished her uni at my age, and my dad at 27. My dad lived with his parents until after I was born (and he was 36)... and they have pretty good lives compared to most of their peers, despite being "slow". So, me being "slow" hasn't really bothered my mom at all, my dad was a little more strict at first because he wanted me to do better than him in life, but I guess I'm going on a similar path haha.

You and your parents are so genuine! This video was refreshing to see! I just lost my Dad in March and he loved me enough to believe in me and my Mom was supportive of my dreams and has faith in me too. I have failed many times but my Dad and I had a talk on his death bed and when he told me that he admired me and was proud of everything I’ve done that was validation that my non traditional route was what I should’ve done for me. He was a successful man and at 53 he lost everything he had due to medication induced brain damage. He truly lived his life from 53 to 67 (when he passed). He enjoyed life and quit being money driven and our lives became so much happier after the greed of all of us was taken out of the equation!!! Sorry for such a long comment but it was just a long way of saying I adore you guys after only one truly honest video! Your love and connection with your parents is beautiful!!!!

It's amazing how as we get older we think more about how our lives progressed and learn to be more careful with our decisions moving forward. When you are young you see a giant world of possibilities and opportunities . Over time we become what we were able to be successful in achieving as life presented the forks in the road, the changes in direction, the unexpected world events, the relationships that took us to different places, the jobs that didn't stick. But hopefully with a little luck we end up where we want to be. Your parents said a lot of great things from their experiences. Have a great day!

This is great. I wish I had the courage to ask my parents if they're disappointed in me. I think it would decrease my stress levels if I just hear their point of view of watching me apply for work and doing small work. I graduated end of 2018. Had a job and was laid off beginning of the pandemic. It sucks to think of possibility of being unemployed for almost 2 years. I know there are up and down days, but keep your head up! Your parents are wonderful and supportive, just like mine. I know something good will come your way. Things are rough at the moment but things will get better. ❤

Ya, it's so tough to find a great job. I graduated from USC as well and struggled for many years to find anything that paid well and was never offered a job anywhere close to what I majored in (marketing). I eventually took online coding courses at MIT and worked my way into a tech company in a non manager role, but it was a struggle and still not sure if the company will survive. It wasn't a Big 4 even though I tried many times to get a job at Apple and Amazon too. After graduating, I went into working for Uber, being a part time office assistant, being a valet, and carrying skis at a hotel, ect. Stay positive and fight on!

It must be nice having a good family dynamic. Not a lot of us children of immigrants parents have that priviledge. My parents spent most of their time working to put food on the table, and unfortunately it is the same for me but I am trying to make it in this generation and I have never had the priviledge of being "unemployed". As soon as I was 18 I was living on my own, but I can't say I regret how I was raised. I'm independent and I don't depend on others to make it, every inconvinience that may be huge to others is a piece of cake to me, I work on it and move on. Not to sound bitter, I do admire people who actually grow up in a family and have that sense of security of depending on your parents. I think as long as the parents don't mind it it's great. But also taking into account that some parents do want to be on their own after spending YEARS of raising children from diapers to college degrees, it's exhausting and the time and effort should be rewarded as children get older and CAN give back.

I'm in the same boat as you right now and it was nice hearing this conversation -- a lot of what you talked about are the same thoughts floating through my head and have come to similar realizations. It's so easy to feel lost especially with so many options. I've also tried so many different things and finally feel like I'm landing somewhere and am walking in a straight line instead of just stumbling blind through the world. It's a nice feeling, but the weight of people's perceptions, the possibility of failure & the idea that I've wasted time still get to me every now and then. It's nice to hear someone else having this conversations and to know *cue high school musical soundtrack* we're all in this together haha.

Your dad is so right about costs and what is attainable! Cost of living has outpaced income increases excessively! I think maybe you stay home with your parents until you can "attain" at least a $100K job or more. Cz it's super expensive to live on your own now. I'm paying for my daughter's college education because even the universities are not giving out enough/substantial scholarships even though she has a 4.5 GPA and did all the extracurricular things ($65,000 per year).

I think there are still think there still many linear paths left. But social media is giving this new generation different potential careers that are not considered traditional. Like being a KZbinr for instance. How long will it last? Is it sustainable? Maybe. But with the traditional careers like Doctor, Lawyer, Optometrist, Surgeon, Engineer, Teacher, and many others are still doable and have long-term sustainability. But, you have to choose a path and let the future reveal the results of your choices. I'm a mechanical design engineer 25 years now. If I had known that Software and Electrical Engineering would dominate in earning potential and demand I would have chosen those. But, we don't have a crystal ball telling the future. SO, you choose and carve your path moving forward. Adjust as needed as the world changes.

For the paralysis of analysis.... Sometimes it's more than that, we make a choice but because we have the whole world on KZbin or FB or Insta we are always seeing other people in other fields 'happy' and 'successful' and on a Daily basis we have grass is greener syndrome... It's so toxic and that why most of us don't stick with a career or wait until we master one thing ... We're generalists.... And that has its pros but mostly cons on mental health and lack of identity and stability
