Unexpected Finds Along the Rim | Gila County Special [Part 2]

The second day of my Gila County Special takes me along Rim Road to a number of unbelievable finds. From a failed railroad tunnel project to an incredible camp isolated away from everything -- and a few other stops along the way, the day will be filled with some real big views and incredible moments from Rim Country.

Scotty…..another fantastic video. I grew up in Prescott in the 1950’s & mid 1960’s and love northern Arizona. All your series of this area are fantastic. The forests are so unique and beautiful. The last time I was on this road was 1984 and you did not show this but maybe 40 years later it has changed. Then….you could still see the actual Crook road on the inside curves of the forest road with the wagon ruts… in many places. I think the Boy Scouts sorta maintained the original segments at that time. I have the original 1800’s first printing books written by the soldier officers who were actually in the Apache wars such as Lt Bourke, etc. He tells that on a march across the Crook trail back then there was four feet of snow on the rim trail. Can you imagine crossing that with horses and some wagons in snow that deep! Also, if you would have gone down the tunnel trail a little lower you could have seen the original military trail where they built up the trail sides with rock to make the trail wider and smoother. I have photos of that with photos of the original military road that I described earlier. I love reading the firsthand accounts of the Apache wars written by the soldiers that fought and traveled fighting in the Apaches. I do not go for the rewritten accounts as they are not accurate. Maybe things have changed in 40 years about this area. Your videos are superb! Thanks for sharing.

Love the content, love the quality, keep up the good work. You need a battery operated chainsaw - makes easy work of felled and downed trees and you manage your firewood situation in a few minutes. And chainsaws are cool, even with a battery.

My first one was train derailed in 94 over by Ajo all the way to current Aerodrome. I want to do peace trail and 300 and I took some time off but my wifeis sketch about me doing those by myself. Seriously, these adventures bring so much peace and love for my home state, I go out just about every weekend.I could never thank you enough. If you ever need a reliable partner for some trail therapy, none better than me. I'm so looking forward to a grounp ride with you.

Fortunately, and rather embarrassingly, the winch issue ended up being fixed by reconnecting a hidden ground wire that we had taken off during some maintenance. So luckily it is now working like it should. A great reminder to check equipment / work before heading out! Thanks again for watching.

Just out of curiosity, how much do you air down your tires? Love the video!

I usually go down to about 15-20 pounds when I air down. My tire deflators are adjustable but set to about 18. I'm about due to go back and make sure they are still set to that. Thank you for watching!

How's the jeep holding up?

The Jeep is still doing great. I need to do a couple of general maintenance things like replace the front CV axles. Most things are just cosmetic issues like the headliner, door handles, window regulators, etc. Still running good for a 1994!
