Love your videos about Pattani. Don't let other people's fear stop you from visiting. I live in neighboring Narathiwat Province and I can assure you the deep south is safe. Keep traveling to these unseen places (also Trat, Phatthalung and any other non-touristy place) and showing the world a different side of Thailand!

@@EllisWR I second Betong, but can also recommend the beaches and further inland in Narathiwat Province. Places like the Hala Bala Forest, Sirinthorn Waterfall and the 300-year old Mosque in Bacho District. You probably need your own transportation though, so if you got your international DL with you, you should rent a car. Motorbikes are hard to find.

Hope you enjoy your time in Pattani 😇 I just back from Yala a few days ago too. From what local told me they say in the 3 provinces they have “zone” normal zone (for living) , caution zone ( need caution to travel or live) and war zone. It’s safe if you are in normal zone and don’t travel by using forest route ( road that surrounded by forest ) it’s more dangerous than normal one.

Wow, Im so happy you guys gave Pattani a chance. I grew up there as a child and my parents/relatives are from Pattani but I was born in Sweden. I havent been there since 2010 and even me, I have been reluctant to go there due to the "violence" people are talking about. Tbf, I think my wife is probably more worried than me cause we have kids now. I super please to see your video of the visit, I hope you have more on your trip to Pattani mate!

To give you a political perspective of what happens in Pattani, it is sort of similar history like Scotland & England, Catalan & Spain. Historically, people of southern Thailand has different identities, cultures than people upper Thailand. The identity and culture of the people of southern Thailand (Malay & Muslim) is similar to its siblings, the people of the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia. I think you get the idea.

20:05 That's the Krue Se Mosque, it is really nice, has a similar resemblance to the ancient temple ruins in Ayutthaya and Sukhothai. Unfortunately the mosque has a dark past. 19 years ago today the mosque was the scene of a stand-off between 32 Islamic insurgents (which had taken shelter inside the mosque after attacking 10 police stations whilst on a rampage) and Thai military personnel, unfortunately the soldiers disobeyed orders from the Thai Ministry of Defence (which had issued orders to end the standoff peacefully) and decided to shoot all the insurgents dead. On a lighter and happier note, you two have really opened my eyes, Pattani isn't the dangerous bomb-zone that everyone says it is! Now I want to book a trip to Pattani when I fly back to Bangkok. Great video as always

Betong, Tanto, Bannangsata, Srisakorn, Sukitin have natural beauty. Many mountains, waterfalls, forests, rivers, seas of fig, etc. They can be little Chiang Mai if it’s really peaceful.
