Unexpected Reactions to My Friend's Porsche 918 Spyder in Miami!

What a way to get around Miami! My friend leant me the keys to his fabulous Porsche 918 Spyder, and it sure does bring out the reactions. Let's go car spotting around South Beach, hypercar style...
The 918 Spyder was always the underdog of the holy trinity of hybrid hypercars, but when Porsche took the crown at the Nürburgring, the world quickly stood up and paid attention. When I first drove one many years ago, I was blown away by the technology and ease of the integration but despite driving a number of LaFerraris and P1s in recent years, the 918 has been elusive.
However, here in Miami, a friend of mine has this stunning Onyx White example and has very kindly let me take it out for a drive. Having not yet been via Ocean Drive and South Beach during this trip, where better to head to enjoy the car roof open, and experiment more with the EV mode.
In fact, my SF90 Stradale will be arriving soon and one of the things I'm very much looking forward to is driving it similarly to the 918 Spyder, with Ferrari incorporating a similar style of technology this time around.
A special thanks to my friend, what an amazing day. He's also involved in W Series, coming to Miami with Formula 1 from 6th to 8th May, I can't wait to check it out.

It's definitely sleeker than the ones with the Weissach Package with the various aero fins and fixed wing Not gonna lie, from driving a 918 Spyder exactly like this around Forza Horizon 3 for over 2yrs, I think I like these ones more

@@sabersz same. Originally I liked the Weissach, but now I prefer it without, part of it is because of Forza Horizon too lmao Plus I think the Penis Wheels 🤣 actually look better than the Weissach wheels

There is no fixed wing on any 918, it's active on both non-WP and WP cars as in it goes up and down depending on speed or the press of a button.

@@Speednote10 I just noticed this on a couple of KZbin thumbnails, it looks like you can just raise and lower it whenever because it's raised in a few instances when parked but lowered in a few when driving.

I dont think any 918 has a fixed wing. It has active aero, and the rear spoiler is quite large when it comes up.

@@svtxj9921 The ones with Weissach package have a much more prominent wing which definitely cannot be fully retracted and might even be fixed, not totally sure tbh, while this one sits flush with the bodywork when not active.

I think the 918 is as subtle as a hyper car gets they are getting pretty outlandish these days. The 918 as you say one of the holy trrinity and as those cars are linked together makes them even more special than if they were released separately . Anyway a very classy spec on the Porsche. We did Ocean Drive too in 2019, but the sensation was quite a bit different in a rented Nissan Sentra. Saw my first 918 in Miami though, at Formula Miami sports cars. I love every bit of that car. Timeless design.

Traffic in Florida, especially south where you are, it's interesting. There are people not only from Florida (unicorns) but actually the ENTIRE world all crammed into that tiny area. I lived up in the norther end of Lauderdale for a couple years but worked down at the 17th St. causeway.. it was an interesting commute.. about 10 miles down the road, 45 to 60 minute drive though. Some nights i had to leave 3 to 4 hours before my shift just to get there..
