Randy isn't alone; I think Tim cuts it too short also, although I'm led to understand it may be better for the kikiyyuu (spelling). If I tried that with my Zoysia grass I'd stall the mower out; it's like cutting carpeting.

My Makita XGT 480mm lawn mower has been at Makita Australia Service Centre (Pemulwuy) for a week now for warranty fixes. Went down to pick it up today, but they fixed it wrong. The right handlebar was loose and sagging. They got it sitting firm, but they didn't level the handlebar first so it is slanted. Fingers crossed they get it right by end of week. They have to fix the swing back not sitting flush to mounting plate and a slanted front wheel (all manufacturing issues). Fantastic lawn mower.

Makita is apparently forgetting to build their mowers right the first time; I'm very surprised you had all those problems under warranty.

@@markh.6687 Well I showed them all the issues I found. All are clear defects and agreed you couldn't apply enough force without braking the plastic components. I had all receipts and its only 4 months old and otherwise in as new condition. I agree with a few reviewers who say the build quality can feel a bit flimsy. I am almost at Makita Service Center. Hopefully they fixed it fingers crossed.

@@markh.6687 It's fixed. The handlebar was still off. They loosened handlebar mount plate to drop left bar down so they are even now. New swingback disc and blades. Replace front axle. $0.
