They are full of colour and contrast. There are mountains and lagoons among the dunes and plains. They often teem with life and are rich in resources. Their peoples have remarkable qualities of ingenuity and endurance, wisdom and humour - their festivals and gatherings full of colour and energy.

Guy who's trying to protect snow leopards had killed few years back by a hit man sent by mining company. Entire murder process was audio recorded on his phone but no authority took action. He was fiercely defensive about preserving wild nature especially rare snow leopards and road blocking huge mining companies. He never gave up till his end. RIP

If the Mongolian government secured a 33% cut of the profits that means the rest is flowing into western coffers. There should be a way to hold the western companies accountable for the actions of their personnel. This needs to be elevated on social media and politic pressure needs to be brought to bear for those complicit in his death!

@@christopherhughes8402 I think what we could do is only to make people aware about the Rio Tinto athrocities. They might thought no one would know about what they did and do. The company bribed even an ex PM who now escaped to UK hiding from the court. They could easily bribe investigators to silent them, because there are billions dollars on account and they don't want to risk it. Especially when some crazy ecologist is trying to raise his voice.

As an urban Mongol I watched this great documentary with mixed feelings: fascination and a deep frustration. It was nice and interesting to see herders living their everyday life and enjoying themselves and to see gorgeous animals and landscape. But witnessing the consequences of the greed of a bunch of politicians in collaboration with foreign mining companies ruthlessly taking sacred nature to destruction within less than a 10 year period makes me angry. They won't stop until the land and everything on and under it is completely ruined, will they? It's extremely sad that the life of the brave young biologist T. Lkhagvasumberel aka Sumberel, featured in the documentary was so abruptly and cruelly ended in hands of covetous capitalists and corrupt politicians. He was only 27 when was murdered in December 2015. Since then the authorities have been attempting to prove the obvious and unheard of before murder as a suicide.He was awarded "Helen Freeman Awards 2015" post-mortem. He had been chosen as one of the best researchers in action to save snow leopards. I hope now he is in heaven enjoying the company of his beloved snow leopard for whom he sacrificed his young life.

The young man was devoted all his effort, knowledge and life to snow leopards whom he loved and was keen to protect. Sadly his life was taken by greedy wealthy persons in 2015. He was only 27.

This doc. dealt not only w/ the life of reindeer nomads but also that of the mining for gold & copper, the extinction of the rare big cat, snow leopard & the revival of Mongolian buddhism & so on ( btw, I enjoyed the camel race,,,,where else can you see such race?! ). All in all, this is so amazing, engrossing & spellbinding that I'm in great awe of the people such as cameramen, sound men ( w/ background music ), the rest of the crew members & an editor including a producer in this superlative documentary regarding the current Mongolia. I am a Karen ethnic of Myanmar. There is a original myth of our Karen people in Myanmar. The Karen originated in Mongolia and our ancestors migrated to Myanmar by passing through the " river of sand " ...we always assume that the river of sand meant the Gobi desert :)

The young biologist had been killed, because he was against Mongolian companies who were licensed to dig and destroy the beautiful part of the Gobi including the territory of the snow leopards. Those companies mainly financed by the Chinese companies. He disappeared without a trace. He was from Northern Mongolia, which is called Khuvsgul, the 2nd freshwater lake in the world.

🇬🇧 WONDERFUL! I have always been interested in the Gobi Desert area, such a vast & desolate place but also of great beauty. The language is like nothing ive ever heard before! It has a Russian part, a kind of Soft gutteral Dutch sound & a sound unique to its own. The people are very welcoming & friendly & it was good to hear about individual families like the Camel Hearder & his brother who worked in the mines & the big differences in their lives but the miner longs for his real home on the Plains like his brothers life even though hes paid 20 times more! Im devastated to learn that lovely young kind Zoologist whos life was dedicated to the preservation of the beautiful Snow Leopard. To know he was murdered because he denied the mining companies access to an area he Conserved to protect the Snow Leopard. It just goes to show that corruption in big business is everywhere on this Earth! Also corruption exists in the Law Enforcement & Police who refused to investigate the murder of that young man!! Corruption is everywhere now on our Earth which saddens me so much, its an evil that spoils every good & natural way of living in balance between man & the natural world. But i loved this documentary I enjoyed every minute Thank you so very much Regards 🇬🇧👧

I’m not sure who I feel more sorry for, the city workers who lost contact with simple life, or those still living the simple light who will eventually be swallowed up. And all this for better GDP,money money money, gold and copper, just what the world needs and to get it, more motor cars, congestion, fumes, concrete, infrastructure and stress/pressure to people’s lives. Going from being happy and contented almost in their ignorance, to wanting more and more ‘stuff’ they don’t really need. So very sad
