I agree - I'm increasingly less impressed by Sizwe - when he interviewed Gayton Mackenzie he was openly hostile and biased - when he interviewed Fikile Mbalula his demeanour was meek, respectful and more professional - here he is openly biased and one sided. He is at best inconsistent in his approach and I think he really is out of his depth as you fear. This man keeps talking about Coloured and Blacks as if we vote the same way. Coloured people don't support the ANC government. It is Black voters who vote for the ANC.
@marabunya
@marabunya Жыл бұрын
Not every coloured person in South Africa lives in Cape Town and the Cape Flats and not all coloureds in South Africa live in isolation from black communities. There are in fact, South Africans of all ethnicities who vote parties of their choice including the ANC, and that has nothing to do with colour but rather, more with history and the dynamics that govern their communities as we speak. In Limpopo, members of black communities founded around the historically agricultural town of Groblersdal vote for FF+ so what makes you think there's not a single group of coloured people out there who would vote for ANC? What you've expressed is what Malema would normally refer to as the "chicken view."

@@pieter-venter Wrong. Van Heerden said there were no BANTUSTANS in the Western Cape. Bantustans are Native Reserves that were re-branded "Homelands" (Bantustans) in the 20th century. They were dumping grounds for expelled, ethnically cleansed populations. There were no 20th century native reserves in the Western Cape however as the Eastern Cape was always the Cape colony's native reserve, which is what he was saying, hence better conditions no matter which government was governing. (It was the best province under ANC too.) Also 1662 already colonists (Shryver and 22 men) went on expedition to encounter Xhosa pastoralists & stole and brought back a thousand head of their cattle. 1770 just happens to be when the colony frontier expanded east to Fish River & it lead to the critical mass of native resistance which resulted in the 100 year war & the native reserve.

The ANC had plurality of the vote in the Western Cape for quite a number of years so saying the national government didn't match provincial since 1994 doesn't add up. Also if a Republican is in national office in the U.S. and New York State votes Democrat, the next step isn't secession. And no, it was in fact only 0.6% for independence in the vote, the party he includes to claim more support is VF+, which agreed with the principle of a province holding referendums, not Cape independence. And your Cape Town numbers are decade old. The 2016 CPT community survey showed: Black 42.6% Coloured 39.9% White 16.5% Asian/Other 1.1%

This presenter has a nerve! I see DA councillors working hard on ground level improving the lives of the poor in western cape. They give them fish for a while to gain strength, then take their hands and teach them how to catch those fish. There is the difference in provinces. That is the kindest thing to do. The strongest help the weakest to become strong. If my parents just left me without showing me the ropes in life, i would have become a coach potatoe. I think by now we have killed apartheid in the 30 year anc reign. Sars list of taxepayers do not lie. The 8nflux of illegal immigrants in sa, and the gold mafia has robbed many funds that should have been applied to education, housing for the poor. Wow, Sizwe is a hostile interviewer here towards the pro-independence interviewee. The panel is stacked against the issue and they come cross, including the interviewer, as desperately trying to racialise the issue in an attempt to shut it down and not talk about the real issues that are fueling the growth of the independence movement. It feels like that the purpose of this interview was to convince black people outside of the Western Cape that it is a project by racist whites instead of having a serious discussion about why this movement is growing and becoming a real issue. I think Sizwe really disapoints here, very unprofessional.

In this format, where the host is supposed to be a mediator between all the panelists, it is problematic if he is seen to be taking a side. Its okay for guests to be biased, that is why they are on after all (to represent a point of view) and even hostile but not the host. The Western Cape independence movement is a dizzy one, but at this point, the race question is irrelevant in the grand scheme of things. What exactly would we have the DA do about racial inequality in SA? The ANC has had ample opportunity to address inequality by doing the basics right, but the ruling party has failed, with hundreds of billions at their disposal every single year. What did South Africans think would be the result of the rampant corruption, wastage and inefficiency in the country's public services like education, healthcare, police etc? Did you think there would be no consequences? Just last week, a man died because he was a witness to corruption at the University of Fort Hare; a historically black institution. A few weeks ago, it was discovered that money that was meant for school feeding schemes, was being looted by KZN government officials and when Christopher Pappas complained about the issue in a live stream, the chair of the ANC in KZN responded by saying he should be "dealt with". As we speak, NSFAS is being looted right under our noses by the largely ANC board, after they decided to centralize accommodation accreditation. Meaning it would be a lot easier for them to accept bribes to accredit accommodations owned by their fellow comrades. These things have been happening for years, so did you not think there would be consequences? South Africans find themselves here because of themselves and the ANC. SA's tax revenue is more than the GDP of most countries on this continent, but it is being looted by scoundrels with no foresight beyond themselves and parties at KONKA. Kids don't finish school, parents don't bother involving themselves in their child's education, and so kids end up living in shacks making more kids. Crime is rampant because of widespread police incompetence, ineptitude and corruption, which has led to the DA having no choice but to create their own crime fighting force, since they are unable to get the ANC government to strengthen law enforcement legislation. It all goes back to the ANC.

"We don't have to be helpless cargo on someone else's ship" Mr Craig, a free man who willingly relocated from Britain to the Western Cape, to enrich himself, is using the tragic history of the Cape coloured people to argue his point. He's THAT greedy!

Since these three people of color (the interviewer and other two panelists) want to make Cape independence all about race. As a coloured person living in the Western Cape I will show what race is all about when I take the Cape independent. I want to see the dumb look on Sizwe "Welsh" face when I do it too. Within 30years the Cape will be a trillion dollar economy mark my words!!!!

The Western Cape is only comparable to Gauteng I would say at the economic level of schemes that is. Other Provinces are just a number by the way the ANC is gonna lose Gauteng. But my point in the discussion is we don't even need the provincial layer of government let alone the independence of a province. My energy would rather be on dismantling the provinces. Very informed host, the SABC did themselves a favour on this one

A simple google search will tell you that Gauteng's GDP is more than double that of the Western Cape. Gauteng's economy is so large, that it's the 7th largest... in Africa. There is Gauteng, and then there is South Africa

@@lethuzulu4966 Thats misleading as Gauteng has a larger population, look at GDP per capita for a more accurate picture. Gauteng still larger but not by nearly as much as you think, and a big chunk of Gautengs GDP is government related, take that a way and the gap is quite narrow, finally a large portion of Gauteng GDP is mining as well so WC has a much more modernised and long term sustainable economy.

The Nuuspod debate on KZbin is a much better quality debate on Cape independence than this. For anyone wanting to get a better understanding of this issue I would strongly suggest that video. They have a diverse panel of Western Cape politicians who genuinely understand provincial political talking about the subject at length and present well articulated positions for and against Cape independence. Not a motley collection of opinionestas forming a panel that is biasedly stacked for a particular opinion presenting a shallow alarmist view from Gauteng that is almost totally disconnected from the realities of Western Cape politics.
