I visited Daya Basti to document the miserable living conditions of a slum surrounded by Railway tracks. What I saw wasn’t less than a shock. Roads are covered by sewage water, crime is a norm, water scarcity isn’t new and people dying on tracks trying to live their lives has become an everyday affair for the people of Daya Basti.
We tried our honest best to uncover the harsh realities of living in Daya Basti. This is Bharat Ek Khoj, Ep. 16.

The kids in this video took my heart. One can see that their eyes are full of aspirations even after living in such grim conditions. They know the conditions that they're living in and are brave enough to talk about it. The kids were the most active in this interview and brought to light the most number of issues - young boys talking about the water scarcity and how they're not allowed to take water home for washing utensils(a child so young, worrying about how his parents would wash utensils and clothes, that's the kind of kids i wanna see and appreciate), school girl talking about train accidents and eve teasing, young girl who voluntarily came to talk about her father being taken by police(she won my heart and pierced it to the deepest), the young kids talking about their drinking habits, the 3 kids coming out about the theft problems and even pointing people out.....

While watching this, I found myself constantly crying because of my privilege. All I want from life is to travel the world, and guess what? It's accessible to me. Here I am coming from a country where the basic necessities of life are not fulfilled. 🥲Meanwhile, parties spend thousands of crores on election campaigns.
