The poetic part of this shoot out is that Little Bill described it earlier in the film. He said to Bochamp if the other guy fires first, Bill says he'll be hurrying and he'll miss. Bill fired first on Munney and missed, because he was hurrying. Munney stayed cool and didn't get rattled under fire. Brilliant writing. Perfect use of foreshadowing

One of my favorite scenes in movie history. Munny goes in to kill Little Bill or be killed. He shows up with a double barrel shotgun and a Scofield on his hip. After an epic gunfight, with one round left, he turns to the other half of the saloon and utters the line “any man don’t want to get killed, better clear on out the back.” One of the most under appreciated gangster moments in film history.

Absolutely one of the best Western Scenes of a shooting ever! This is how a real gunfight would happen back in the Old West! As you can see, he is outnumbered against all those men with guns but what happens in a real gunfight when the Stress Level is at a high point and your life is on the line, panic sets in and your motor skills are greatly affected to the point of not being accurate with your gun! This is one of my all time favorite Western Movies!

No it isn't what would happen in a real gunfight. What would happen in a real gunfight is that Munny would be turned into a lead mine. They would have shot him to pieces. The only reason that didn't happen is because of plot armor. Terrible scene.

You mean like Wyatt Earp walking across the creek in Tombstone, and not being hit by a shot, despite withering crossfire. Which actually reflects Earp's uncanny luck in reality. @@nealbenham3836 Munny's attitude had no impact on his ability to eat bullets. The fact is there's no way she should have walked out of that situation. The sad thing is, it would have made for a much better movie if Munny had died in that scene. Having him walk into an obvious suicide situation and die fighting to save his friend would have been a lot better then having him survive because of plot armor.

You can't compare this to Clints' other westerns, that's missing the point. He meant this to be his last one, where he reveals the grim reality behind the myth of the heroic bounty hunter. There are no good or bad guys, just rough people fighting to stay alive in a rough world. And no happy ending, just a series of tragedies. That's why its so dark and somber. It's not meant to compete with his other great westerns... it meant to be their gravestone.

This is so awesome. Will Munny literally BECAME the harbinger of death. He didn't enjoy this. He didn't want the person he used to be to ever surface again, but learning how Ned died needlessly woke the beast within. This was one last piece of business in a long hard life full of killing. Somehow, someway, something or someone was looking out for Will here, and he got to live out his days as a loving father and widower.

It took Clint Eastwood about 25 years of trying, but he finally got it right. High Plains Drifter and The Outlaw Josey Wales were steps in the right direction, and even Pale Rider managed to resurrect a dead genre back in the 80's. But he would have to wait another seven years before he would perfect it. Unforgiven is one of the three best westerns ever made. And here is where the debate might begin, I suppose. The other two are "Shane" and "High Noon."

This scene is a departure in style from the earlier violence of the movie. All the previous scenes leave the viewer shocked by the horror of what has just taken place. In the previous scenes the viewer doesn't get the warm and fuzzy feeling that a bad guy is getting what he deserves. These scenes leave the viewer shaken. In this final scene Clint Eastwood single handedly outshoots a saloon full of armed men. This is the type of violence viewers like to see - a steely eyed man facing down fifteen bad guys.
